Hello fellow SMW TAS enthusiasts! This game is awesome and I have followed this thread from the beginning and decided to finally post. I'm assuming that both runs will not be unveiled until they are finished, which is fine. I'm just wondering if anyone can tell me the progress on any of the runs, or some sort of estimated time they will be completed. Thanks in advance for this information and good luck to everyone involved in these runs!

Just wondering, what is the purpose of a 86-exit Small-Only run when we have Fabians 96 exit run?

A small only run is very different from a regular 100% run. This small run is going to be great AngerFist, very different and very very good.

Two words: "No Cape". Which is instantly good for me.

The cape is in of itself very good to watch. However, we viewers have become completely accustomed to watching cape shortcuts, since the 120 run and 11 run use them exclusively. As seen in the very tempting castle run, alternate shortcuts that normally weren't thought possible with tiny Mario look pleasing because we're used to seeing the cape bypass such obstacles.

Nothing is very good to watch by itself, it's all about the environment and the circumstances of the usage. In SMW, it's (IMO) overabused to the point that every more or less straight stage consists only of a couple of "PWEE!"s to the nearest exit. Just watching Mario's sprite on the scrolling backgroung isn't very good at all. On the other hand, it's not nearly as bad in SDW because the stages there are a lot more interesting and complex per se, so the cape doesn't bring that much dissonance (again, in my opinion).

Since JXQ mentioned that somebody was working on an improvement to the SDW 120-exit run, I thought I should come forward. I've been working on an improvement to that run for a couple of months, now. I am about 1:15 into the run, and am 46 seconds ahead as of the Red Switch Palace. So... I thought that the other person improving this run and I should collaborate, or at least exchange information as to the progress and tricks in each of our runs.

Chef, if you want to I'd be interested in checking your run out. If you'd like to send it I'll PM you my email address or something. It's an unfortunate situation though, that two people have been working on the same run since we didn't know you were doing it.

I guess I should have come forward sooner... I was only working on this as a fun side project that I would eventually submit. Edit: I've been PM'ing with jimsfriend, and after watching his run, I have decided to let him continue working, without my help. He has a lot of unexpected tricks and glitches in his run... My run wasn't nearly as interesting, nor as fast. With that said, I've decided to post my run for your interest. As stated in a previous post, it goes up to the Red Switch Palace, and is 46 seconds ahead of JXQ & Fabian's run. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/2950/Hex-test.smv Two of the most major tricks I used were: left/right in Sky World 2, and skipping the p-switch in Pipe World 2. Other than that, I just followed and optimized JXQ and Fabian's run. Expect much more from jimsfriend's run - I won't spoil any of the clever tricks he uses. I hope everybody enjoys my run as a sort of teaser for jimsfriend's completed run :)

You used my other idea in the Blue Switch Palace! That made me happy to see :) This run is very very well made and I think it's really unfortunate this happened. Good job Chef, I also thought the Red Switch Palace (all I can comment on are switch palaces?) was very clever.

I'm watching your run at the moment, have just beat the blue switch palace, nice :D! I really enjoy this, as I did with JXQ and Fabian's run. Well made Chef. If you are quitting on this you can always improve any of the LA runs, haha^^. EDIT: Was reading through the routes to the Small Only only.. I was wondering.. Why aren't the switch palaces included in the route?:O

Because they make some levels that should be "impossible" as small really simple. So we decided not to include them, since they kinda go against what makes a small run cool.

Switch palaces are a type of upgrade which defeats the purpose of a "no upgrades that make levels easier" (such as cape, yoshi, etc) run.

I usually (well, sometimes) seed it when I'm awake, and I have a very fast connection so there should be no problems when I'm seeding.
