enjoy it while it lasts, Fabian's improving that :P and I'd agree on watching the .smv, except there's no rewinding, and my Snes9X is terribly screwed up, the framerate drops down to 30-40 every 5 seconds. the animation is extremely choppy, so when making a movie or watching a new run for the first time I'll download the .smv but for general movie watching the AVI is prefered for me. (unless my CPU has problems and the video/sound get out of synch.)

Wheow. I stop following SMW for a couple months and everything explodes. I was thinking of picking up an SDW run, which was why I checked back here. I guess I get to be lazy for another while, or I could find tricks, which I'm not particularly good at.

For the SDW run, are you thinking of doing a all exit run or a 15 exit run? Im currently doing a 15 exit run and jimsfriend is doing a all exit.

Yea, I was going to tackle the 15 exit (I've done one before so I know those levels pretty well; it was just a bit faster than the current at the time but I lost it with my flash drive) but since both are being done, I'll just wait.

For some strange reason I had a dream of watching the small-only run. It was about as glitchy as the Mega Man run on here. There would be a way to start running in mid-air somehow, and all these rooms would be skipped glitchily. Then I thought how awesome it would be for Fabian to do an improvement run given all the new discoveries. Closest I'll ever get to a time attack dream. I haven't even been to this site in a few days.

While no mid-air running has been discovered (yet!), I am in fact working on an improved 96 exit run, with all the new discoveries :)

Rest assured Oddity, the small-only run has almost no glitches in it. Although midair jumping would be quite helpful. :)

Hi guys! I have some questions, i wanna make my private speedrun without tools and any emulator extras, but i will play on an emulator, because i have no snes.... 1. I dont know how to make the first jump at yoshis island 3 .. on the grey stone and than on the platform... it is possible without tools? 2. If you press the speedkey you run first faster and after some seconds very fast, right? (I hope you know what i mean) But i have the problem that i dont get sometimes the fastest speed i get just this "middle" speed.. for example in yoshis island 3... in the first level it works well and i get a 360 time... I have to say that i am a really new newbie on speedgaming and on SMW... i hope you guys can help me and know what i mean. Eiskalt-Ger

Hi Eiskalt! 1. I'm not super sure which jump you mean. All the jumps in this level are pretty easy, once you practice them, though. So yes whichever it is it's definitely possible. 2. It sounds like you try to jump too early. You need to let the fast running speed begin before you start jumping, or else the jump will be in the "middle" speed, and you won't be able to make it. Just keep practice the timing, wait a little longer before jumping off the ground. Any other questions, feel free to ask. Good luck!

In yi3, the jump in the beginning over the speaker, is very easy with little practice. If your doing non tool, since your not doing hop glitch theres no point in jumping anyway :) .

Are you by any chance using the European ROM? I noticed that on my (European) console I'm not able to make the jump as often as on the US ROM (realtime emulated), so there may be some timing differences between the two. This is also seen in castle 1; on my console I'm able to jump over the long lava pit just before the door, without grabbing the fence, while on the emulator with the US version, I've never succesfully done it.

Are quite a lot of things that you could do faster in the PAL version. Take YI1 for another example, you can run under the enemy at the beginning in PAL, which isn't possible in NTSC.

Of course there's a point to doing the jump off the message block at the beginning. Whether or not hop glitch is involved, it still saves time. Eiskalt-Ger: This jump is possible without tools, it just take a little practice. Try doing as short of a jump as possible at the last possible second just before Mario gets to the block.

I used to do this jump all the time non tool back before I doscovered TASvideos. It takes a lot of practice, but it is doable.

What say you all to a "walking" version? Rules: 1. Walking only, no hitting of y/x EVER, except, obviously, at Bowser. 2. See rule 1.
-Oz. If practice makes perfect, but nobody's perfect, why practice?
