VBA rerecording 19.3 was used for the creation of this TAS.

* Aims for fastest time
* Takes damage to save time
* No warps/passwords used
* Abuses programming errors in the game
This run is 654 frames (10.9 seconds) faster than my last submission.
Most frames have been gained due to optimized movement, but a decent amount was gained due to strategic changes. However, first let me tell you a little about investment and interest rate.
  • I go on a Potion Hunting-streak, which costs me around 30 frames. When I claimed this debt however, I got 132 frames back. I do not get Potions from the first 2 Bomb Skeletons since that caused awful lag.
  • I kill an enemy extra in the same room as where I get the Cotton Robe, the Mudman, to get a Mind Restore. This, alongside with unoptimal triggering of the DSS (Which was a must), cost me 30-something frames. When the frame-mob retrieved the debt, I got 140-isch back.
  • However I pick up the axe, which cost me 24 frames. I believed that it could be used to gain several frames, but I forgot how horrible the physics in this game are, so I ended up losing 21 frames here. This can be argued, since the axe helped me to do extra input before getting the 9th Potion which gained me time after Camilla (5, which brings the loss down to 16 (I could have managed with 12 Potions, but decided to go with 13 which maybe had made the entire after-Camilla different (Going with 12, that is (Also brackets are fun) ) ) ), but it was still a loss/bad investment. However the axe, in my opinion, gives some smoothness and adds a little extra to the run, so if anyone argues about the usage of the axe and that I should redo due to it, I'll bring out the "Sacrifice time for entertainment"-card.
Okay, now some frames which might seem silly:
  • I hit the platform on frame 5440, I thought that it gained me a frame, but it turned out to be just as fast as bouncing off the ledge.
  • I make a long jump around 16900 which manipulates the enemies so I only take damage once on the run.
  • Sometime around 31800, while getting the second Potion in that room, I don't fall off the ledge after the slide, due to bad luck.
  • I jump around 36460 to manipulate the enemies' movement, and that gains me a few frames (Also takes less damage).
  • I kill Adramalech with one bone this time. Time saved: Amazing 3 frames.
  • Dracula gets 3 bones this time. Time difference: 0 frames.
So, most frames are gained due to better jumping. Around 210 frames are gained due to strategic changes.
I would like to thank:
  • JXQ, adelikat, moozooh, Zurreco, jimsfriend, Fabian, meepers, Upthorn, Brushy, :DK, herooftheday and Baxter for support and listening to my whine when I encountered difficulties.
  • Everyone I forgot who also supported me.
  • moozooh for pointing out and improvement in my last submission which turned out NOT to be an improvement, but was what started this run.
Enjoy.

Bisqwit: Based on feedback and the notion that it's an improvement to existing movie, accepting.

Wow, and this was just published! (I really want to see an improvement to JXQ's HoD now.. :) ) Edit: Definitely the most entertaining of all the CotM TASes so far. There is more flow to the run because you skip two saves. Obvious Yes.

I've been thinking of the stars recently… Earlier, I was sure that the HoD run, despite being longer, was more suited for a star, but with this version of CotM, I don't longer think so. It is so damn polished now! At least until the second version of HoD, this is definitely THE most star-worthy GBA Castlevania run.

Makes me wish I had the ROM handy. Oh well, time to wait for the AVI. The first version of this was good enough, this version must be insane...

Definitley much better than the last version in every aspect and I don't see why HoD should be favoured over this run, as its a lot more surprising and doesn't contain any real moments of boredom.

These are my suggested screens. EDIT: I've got some feedback on screen 20146 as the sweetest, and I like that one as well, so that's the screen I suggest.
