It would be appreciated if you would try to remember that not everyone on the internet is a goon, and keep the links to members only areas of the Something Awful forums to a minimum. This is especially the case as Something Awful accounts require paying to register, so when you post links to members-only sections, you're basically spamming for a commercial site.

Aside from BYOB, FYAD, and the major closed off areas of the subforums (YCS, HD2k, etc), what parts of the forums are member only? I can't remember, since I've been a goon for so long :o
A lot of people complain about "I can't view this until I register," even though they don't realize that there is a disclaimer on every forum page. I've heard people complain that GBS isn't open to the public when all they have to do is scroll past the disclaimer.
Also, simple solution = everyone should shell out money and get an account so that this never happens again.
Me and my friend were talking about what exactly it means to be an 8-bit system and ect. We both had little understanding. Can anyone here clear up what a bit is? How many bits are the consoles today (xbox, gc, ps2) or do they not use bits anymore?
WOW ZING!
I asked a bunch of legitimate video game related questions, in the off topic section of a video-game-centric forum. You really showed me.
It's a good thing you have all of my posts memorized and bookmarked so I can take that little trip down memory lane, it was fun thanks.
You forgot to mention that one time I spelled your name inccorrectly and you spazzed out. Where is the link to that?

Actually, all your posts are right here. Don't flatter yourself. The only reason I pull them up is because, honestly, if you look at the reception you got in that Rockman thread alone, you would know that it's more of a blunder than anything. IRC was quite a bustlin' with jokes aimed at you with every thread you made asking generally simple questions.
Also, I got mad at other people for messing up my name (namely, pirate_sephiroth). For you, I mostly let it slide because I was more interested in just getting out of the thread. I do that to everyone that doesn't have the common decency to at least look at the name of the person that they're talking to. Then again, RMotion, I don't really attribute common decency to you.
THAT BEING SAID, let's get back on topic. No one has compiled a list of which subforums are blocked to non-goons, so I can't really promise that I won't accidentally post to a wicked thread that some people can't get in on. Obviously, my advice for everyone to just buy an account was in jest, though it still isn't the worst idea ever.
I think the SA forums had troubles a few days ago, that might be why
EDIT: Realised that I might be saying he had troubles a few days ago, I actually ment the the problems might still be on going, I haven't really been paying much attention to SA lately

May I suggest you simply log out and check for yourself if the link you are going to post is available without an account?
Or, I dunno, make a list of the free forums yourself instead of asking people to do stuff for you?
I imagine it's quite a few, as I used to be fond of reading the Forum Friday's on Monday, and then I found maybe 1 out of every 4 links worked for me. The forums are a bit more closed than I'd like, I don't mind disclaimers, but I like links to work.
Or, I could claim I'm a member of PETA, and Goons hunt furries, and furries are... well, something. Either way, neither are ethical.

Logging out still grants me access to Lets Play! and YCS, even though people are complaining that they can't access those subforums. That being said, I can't compile that list myself. A little help would be nice.
That being said, if I don't know what subforums are open and which aren't, I still can't promise that I won't post links to privatized threads. If someone makes a request of me, the least they could do is help me out in my attempts to appease them.
IT'S NOT THAT SIMPLE, GUYS.
I believe that what's visible and what's not varies from time to time, which can make this all the more difficult. Some days one can see a lot (I think even FYAD on occasion), some days one can see only GBS and BYOB (which is usually visible, I think), and some days a non-goon can't see anything at all.
