Hi I am sinister1 and speedrunner of this game and I have been working on it a lot lately. I was hoping you guys could help me shed some light on something. What is it that controls when you can scroll the screen after Krang appears in stage 1?? I cannot seem to figure it out. I have had times where it will just randomly let me scroll it earlier than others. Most times it is pretty consistent, but I want to know about these anomalies and if it is something that can be controlled. The best I can come up with is making him appear as early as possible so he will go away as early as possible, but there is still the question of those random times where you can just scroll the screen almost immediately instead of having to wait ~3 seconds.

Congrats on the WR. I think the Krang issue you mentioned is on a frame rule. Though, I have no idea.

Nitsuja's TAS is really old and both Sinister1 and I have found a bunch of improvements. If a TASer needs help with the game, I'm pretty sure Sinister1 and I could provide some help and feedback for anyone interested in TASing the game.

This. I would love to see an updated version of this TAS. I think around 30 seconds to 1 minute could come off this run.

We could probably do a quad run using Bizhawk. TMNT IV set the control type to TYPE L so that it won't interfere with special attacks. TMNT III Player 2 can join in anytime on a 1 player game by pressing A or B.. I like A to jump instead of B because they counter each other. TMNT III Have P1 get game over quickly while P2 plays so it won't interfere with the other games later on. TMNT IV Control Type L places special on the Y button, jump with A, attack with B. Special attack on TMNT II may result in shorter jump kicks in TMNT IV. I know that you have to press A slightly before pressing B to perform a special attack. Start button: TMNT I pausing to the character menu also pauses TMNT II and TMNT III and not TMNT IV. Select button: Toggling weapons in TMNT I also pauses in TMNT IV.

The only improvement I know of would be the boss fight against Slash. I used to just copy mikwuyama when I did casual "TAS"'s for this game. Was there any multi-system-same-input BizHawk runs?

There are dozens of improvements. Dozens. The sum of my best stages in real time is faster than the current TAS by a few seconds. My best run ATM is 19:38 and I have been finding improvements steadily. If someone really wanted to TAS this game I would work with them to find things. There is also a rumor of a wrong warp that I challenge anyone to find. It is supposed to happen early in stage 4 and warp you to the loading screen of the elevator in stage 4. I imagine it could save 1 minute or more.

Rumor? Nope. It's a thing. http://www.twitch.tv/sinisterwon/v/7495758?t=5m32s Also, this run does beat the current TAS by about 30 seconds.

Is the published movie using one player only because of the limit in tools back then? I wonder if it's possible to use the same tactic from [983] NES Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan Project "2 players" by Xipo in 30:30.87 to trick the game into thinking there is only one player while generating the boss and beat the boss with two players.

That game was on the NES and uses a completely different engine. The current Turtles in Time run uses one player to skip enemies.
effort on the first draft means less effort on any draft thereafter - some loser

In the last video linked above it's explained that with 2 players, you can't skip enemies at all, and that's the greatest timesaver so far. Also, sinister tells how long it takes to kill the other player once he spawns: it costs quite some time so that the warp skip isn't so huge after all. Probably, since this game has tons of enemies compared to the NES one, it won't be productive to have 2 players most of the time.

Bosses in this game have the same amount of HP regardless of whether or not there are 2 players.

What's wrong with a vocal one?

Heh, thanks. Here it is again with the placeholder sections improved by 122 frames. Turns out they weren't that useful; all I found out was that there wasn't much danger of needing too many special attacks. Still a lot to do before I'm done with this stage.
