Skip the first 27 seconds of the movie and see the mid and final boss battles until the end of the video. I can't even imagine a better candidate for a TAS than this one ... well, i can't think on any other way to complete this game with one live. Probably one of the most difficult shooters ever done, if not the most difficult one o_O. A complete, absurd and absolute nightmare. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Nb5Ohbt1Sg

We'd be glad to if you make us a PC rerecording emulator.

Well, Tool Assistance needs tools, and there are none for TASing windows games. And for a lot of reasons, there won't be any that satisfy this site's requirements for quite some time. If you want to see a TAS of perfect bullet dodging, there's always Gradius.

I think I like Perfect Cherry Blossom better than Imperishable Night but they're both really super fun. Sometimes I want to relax when I play though, so I'm looking forward to Touhou 10 which from the demo seems to simplify the game quite a lot (without reducing the complexity of the bullet patterns of course). EDIT: Also, I'm not too sure what tool assistance would add. Already we have human performances of these Touhou games that do amazing things like perfect graze complicated boss patterns, never drop a score panel, never die, etc. TASing one would just be squeezing out a few more million points, it probably wouldn't be distinguishable from high-level human play.

I'm going to go out on a limb here (heh) and say it's not the most difficult one. As I can actually play it and didn't suck at it from the moment I picked it up. Also, there are already basically perfect videos up on youtube. And I think some where slowdowns were used. Sooooooo.... Edit: Hi http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWQR-7vmf8g

As per an encounter with BoltR, I am equally sure of these statements:
  • This YouTube video was ten times more interesting when listening to power goat.
  • Imperishable is in no way one of the more impossible shmups out there.
  • "Go play Mars Matrix."

I like this game. It seems like you need some kind of an analog stick input device, though, in order to get further than stage 2 or so without dying (on normal). It's really hard to dodge bullets with the keyboard because it's so imprecise.

These games tend to include a key that while pressed allows for more smooth movement.
No.

Yeah, it's the Shift key, but it doesn't start slowing you down immediately, which makes it hard to use. Of course I'm really bad at these games anyway, so it could just be that.

I play with the keyboard, and my problems don't tend to stem from control issues. I'm much more fond of just running straight into bullets personally (especially while trying to reach the item collect line!). It takes a lot of practice to become good at these games... my best accomplishment is still one-crediting Embodiment of Scarlet Devil on easy.

This game has an option to store replays. So, wouldn't it be possible to write some kind of replay file editor? Would be easier than making a PC rerecording emulator at least. ;) But this would lead to the problem that you'd have to do lots of trial and error and watch the replay file from start every time.. However, it would be possible to make replay files for each stage and each spell card seperately first and then merge them together to a full replay of the whole game. I don't think there is any randomness in this game and you could give yourself full fire power with a game trainer beginning frome stage 2.

貴方の人生、せめてノーマルモードぐらいチャレンジしたら? えーマジ イージモード!? キモーイ イージモードが許されるのは小学生までだよねー キャハハハハハハ (English: the link says "To improve your health, why not try playing on at least Normal Mode?" and the conversation is like "What, Easy Mode?" "Gross!" "You'd have to be an elementary school kid to justify that!" "Ahahahahaha") Yes, I know I posted this exact post before. Also I'm not intending to make fun of Maur's accomplishment since it's something I haven't done myself (though I usually play on Normal or Hard and just end up not able to kill the last boss even after 3 credits on most Touhou games). It was just incredibly appropriate since it was someone admitting to playing a Touhou game on easy....

Actually, I'm working on Perfect Cherry Blossom on lunatic. I can get to stage 3 if I'm incredibly lucky. :P I meant for there to be an incredibly self-deprecating tone when I listed that 'accomplishment', if you didn't notice it. Also, some spellcards make me think that there is, indeed, a random element to the games (see: Chen's last spellcard on lunatic in PCB, sakuya's stage 6 spellcard in EoSD). It's obviously not too much though, and I would be surprised if the non-boss portions used the RNG to any significance at all.

This game would be a boring TAS to watch. You can't exactly go fast. Wouldn't impress me much since it's the easiest thing ever at slow speed. For the record, I cleared Phantasm stage with 3 lives left (would have been 4 but I died AS Yukari's death animation was going).

Well you can TAS this game for high score, and the amount of grazing would make it interesting, but slower, since you need to draw out the spellcards to their very end. A fun side challenge would be to find long pathes where you can travel in one direction, so that it seems like you can't get hit, no matter what you do.

If you want to see a TAS of a bullet hell game, watch the current Perfect Cherry Blossom WR score replay by "HASEGA". It's not a TAS literally, but it's about as close as you will ever get. For the record, some time ago I tried to actually TAS Perfect Cherry Blossom (massive artificial slowdown, no rerecords obviously) and, although I managed to pull off some inane grazing, I failed rather quickly — died on one of Yuyuko's later spellcards. The replay is really pathetic, though, as I rush into barrages employing no scoring strategies at all, don't abuse supernatural borders, die and counterbomb a lot (!) and do other stupid things that don't look even remotely as awesome as the replay linked above. (Actually, my accomplishments on Lunatic are about the same as Maur's. :P)

I haven't seen this before, this flash is just the type of crazy that I love.
