A run where Sonic starts from a save file with all emeralds would be what makes the most sense for a third run. It would be entirely different from both published runs. Collecting the emeralds would mean we need to watch Sonic redoing stages in the same way as in the Sonic&Tails run and collecting all emeralds like in the Knuckles run, while starting as Hyper Sonic would be something entirely new. The game doesn't label starting as Hyper Sonic as its own mode that you have to unlock, but I've always seen it that way. And it's high speed, it just has to be done. One could also see Hyper Sonic as an unlockable character. I personally wouldn't put a run like this in the concept demo section because it's actually the most common way to play the game (at least for me).

Well this was the first other S3&K thread I found, so I figure I'll discuss the glitch from that other thread here. First off, I presume you're supposed to have a completed knuckles save file in the first slot, otherwise it wont work. I have a sonic/tails file there, so it loaded me into Sky Sanctuary instead. Funny thing is, Sonic/tails still synch perfectly, and it actually does still perform glitches XD Sonic does a weird mid air jump at the start, and then he gets frozen during his hanging animation a bit later. Both completely useless, but it's still funny. Anyways, there's no way of copying save files, so could Mr_Sweed or someone else provide a save state which will work please? I don't feel like completing the game right now.

The glitch is useless, and I don't think Mr. Sweed actually reads the forums. Every post he has made has been a new topic. If you still wish to view it, though, rename your "sonic and knuckles & sonic 3.srm", and play this gmv in fast forward. It will generate a completed save file for knuckles in slot 1. If you don't know how to fast forward in gens, hit f4 until it says that frameskip is set to 8. Then when the credits begin, hit f2 to return to normal, and play the other movie.

Agreed, its a pointless glitch. And a hassle to see it too. Although the knuckles' playthrough was mildly entertaining... ;)

(related to Knuckles' AIZ Act 2) Edit: Seems like you die if the camera moves over a certain point on the x axis. Any ideas on how to bypass this? Made another two attempts and they also seem to lead to nothing. (use same save state as above) Made another attempt which I think is worth posting. First, I want to say that the sonic 3 speedrun up here is awesome. For my non-tool assisted run, I may want to try to mimic some of these glitches, though I am not having too much luck, such as the glitch on act 2 of the Hydrocity zone. I think I did the glitch on the ice cap zone (it didn't lead me to the end), though I really still have no clue how it's preformed. Any support needed, but I just thought I'd say this. So far, I'm doing pretty well with most of the levels.
Current real time speedruns. "Warpless" Super Mario bros. 3 (1:01:48) Working on. "Warpless" Super Mario bros. 3 (Faster then 1:00:00) Sonic 3 and Knuckles (Faster then the current speedrun) Sonic 1 (At least under 17:00)

So what you mean is you're going to do a real time run for SDA, but you want to incorperate some of the gliches used in the TAS? Firstly you'll get more information if you post in the original topics

The most recently published runs (1, 2, 3 are from nitsuja and upthorn. As nitsuja seems not to be available, you might want to talk with upthorn. I think he is refferng to a Sonic 3 stand alone run, which in my opinion would actually be quite nice (More glitchiness than Sonic 3 and Knuckles anyone?)

I was referring to Sonic 3 and Knuckles. I think the current real time speedrun is not very good, by looks. I can see the huge amount of effort put into it, but I think I can make it better. I do hold the current record for some games for the quickest real time.

If you haven't already, I'd suggest you check with people at The Sonic Center. They explained to Nitsuja and me many of the glitches that we used in our runs, and probably understand better how to reproduce them in real time than I do.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E3JZkaG7Up0 This was initially discovered by me (with an unassisted time of 1:16) and SkyLights and a few others (this video is SkyLights's one) pushed it to it's unassisted limits of 1:11. This run uses Tails alone, since it's TSC with their rules, but in TAS I see no reason why Sonic and Tails can't pull it off. (What happens is that at a certain point, if you're near the top of a Sandopolis loop, it pushes you up even if there's a wall there. This particular wall, if done properly, allows you to zip through the left edge. Doesn't seem useful with any other loop or in act 2)

Wow. That's a neat trick. Though, I don't think another Sonic 3 and Knuckles TAS would be made just for that... Unless... Someone wants to create a "Tails only" TAS. Think about it: it wouldn't be that bad. Sonic runs at the speed of sound and rapes the levels' a**, but sometimes, he encounters a wall or alternate path which require p-a-t-i-e-n-c-e... Whereas Tails could just fly atop of that and complete the level. (Although where Tails can fly, so can Sonic, seeing that Tails can pick him up).

Well, nitsuja DID have an improvement which consisted of one trick. (maybe two, I can't remember) So... m-a-y-b-e... Also a question for the better ones out there: how high is the learning curve for this game, if you didn't even try TASing before? I want to attempt a Tails-alone TAS, but if this game is something that takes months upon months, I'll NEVER be able to do it up to par, though I may still try.

Unlike Sonic 1/2 there isn't a good THE topic, there are many smaller ones. And I don't think there's a general S3K topic anyway. Specific ones yes, not generics!

I am unsure if this is the best place for it, but this seems to be the most recent S3&K thread in the forum; hence I am taking the risk. I have begun working on a Sonic + Tails all emerald run. So far, it has been mostly a cut & paste exercise; using the latest Sonic + Tails run and copying the special stages from he Knuckles run, with some input to merge the two. Needless to say, Upthorn and Nitsuja are to receive due credit (and I want to take the opportunity to ask for the required permissions to use their input). The WIP (which includes all of Angel Island) is here; I am expecting some merciless but much needed comment by the experts :-). As can be seen, I encounter a few issues. For example, I can't pick up the lightning shield at the end of AI1 as the moving platform is in an inconvenient position (due to the extra time needed to enter the special stages). Also, after the first special stage in AI2, I cannot figure out how to go through the floor except after it has finished falling; I would appreciate any pointers.
