I saw the Wikipedia article of this game and though this might make a good TAS, since it is supposed to be the hardest NES/Famicom game ever made. I might start working on this sometime. The only problem is that FCE Ultra's top menu messes up on me when I try to play ANY game.

The 'this is the hardest game ever' doesn't come from the fact that it has challenging/interesting gameplay. It comes from the fact that the guy who made it APPARENTLY 'hates video games' and tried to make a game that no one would WANT to finish. A TAS of it wouldn't be entertaining at, doing things hitting A 10000 times to 'kill' the last boss with no visual feedback of how many times you have hit it. You also need to sing karaoke into a very crude microphone for 20 minutes. I don't even know if that's possible in FCEU... Here is another fun part of the game: Waiting 1 hour without touching the controller.

I actually saw a glitch on Youtube that skipped all the challenges. However, you are right that this will probably be a boring TAS, even though I think VirtuaNES had the microphone option. I regret making this topic. :(

Just a heads up for everyone... The karaoke scene is no more than a few minutes long if you're having trouble, the scene where you have to press nothing for a hour is only an option you can pick to complete the scene while doing it in five minutes is also an option, and I can't find a place where 10-20k punches are necessary. There are videos on Youtube of the game being beaten in under 30 minutes without using the warp glitch JRL mentioned. It's not too hard in the least, only unconventional and unorthodox in the things it requires you to do, such as getting divorced. If you want a hard game, go play Holy Diver. Why am necrobumping this? Because I'm taking a break from Metroid 2 for a while and am working on a warped run of this game and may do a warpless run some time later. I'm having some trouble with the karakoe sequence (the only sequence required to complete the game; failing to do this results in a game over once you reach the treasure) even though there are supposedly some workarounds for the microphone. You have to get the audience to approve of your singing of a short verse three times, but I can only get them to randomly approve once, and often its by not doing anything at all. I don't get it. Do we have any Japanese gamers who are familiar with this game? I'd like some tips as to how the heck to complete this sequence.

Quote From Wikipedia: Other games substitute the use of the microphone by pressing down the Select button on the controller, but in Takeshi no Chōsenjō, microphone use is substituted by pressing the A button while holding down on the keypad of the second controller. Though the microphone is used to determine the presence of sound, the game does not have the technology to process sound pitches, making it possible to "sing" just by blowing air on the microphone with proper timing. The game ends once the player discovers the treasure hidden in an island cave. A black ending screen appears, along with the words kan (完, kan? The End), erai (えらいっ, erai? good job), and a picture of Kitano's face. The game has no ending credits, and if the player leaves the ending screen on for 5 minutes, the words change to konna gēmu maji ni nacchate dōsuruno (こんなげーむにまじになっちゃってどうするの, konna gēmu maji ni nacchate dōsuruno? Why get serious for a game like this). Throwing 20,000 punches on the opening game screen will also take the player directly to the game's ending.

First paragraph: I've been giving that a try. It hasn't been working. Success seems to be entirely up to luck until I figure out what it is I'm missing. Second paragraph: Yes, there's no need to beat Takeshi's face 20,000 times. I have seen the five minute thing work. I have, however, tried the title screen thing. Didn't work so well. My guess is that was a gag to get players to actually do that to see if it would work.
