Emulator used: dega-1.14-win32.
ROM used: Kenseiden (UE) [!].sms (the (J) ROM should also work)
Aims for fastest time.
Takes damage to save time.
This is a somewhat special moment for two reasons. A) This is my first solo run so be gentle with me :) and B) This is TASvideos first submitted Sega Master System run (if you dont count xebras submission).
  1. About the run: All I know is that the character is a Samurai. I don't even know what the plot is :) The game itself is reminds me of Kung Fu and Castlevania (NES). Mix them together and you get Kenseiden. The developers are clearly sadistic because the difficulty in some areas is ridiculously absurd, especially the final boss.
  2. Recognition: I would like to take this opportunity and wholeheartedly thank the developer pcc. Thank you very much for developing Dega and giving it working TASing features. We owe you a lot. I also would like to thank Neofix for uploading his testrun, which helped me decide my route etc. By the way, here is a download link for the emulator in case you wanna watch: http://www.mediafire.com/?6tm3jjged0x

Truncated: Congratulations on the first accepted SMS run!

adelikat: Encoding in process.

NesVideoAgent: Hi! I am a robot. I took a few screenshots of this movie and placed them here. I'm not sure I got the right ROM though. (I tried Kenseiden (UE) [!].sms, which was the closest match to what you wrote.) Well, here goes! Feel free to clean up the list.

Like I said before in the WIP for this run, I'm psyched to see some good SMS runs appear on this site. The character moves a bit slow in this game but you make him plow through enemies undeterred. Yes from me!

The character moves awful slow but I was still entertained. I tried playing the game some before watching the movie which helped a lot. This game is quite difficult. This TAS managed to keep moving through the swarms of enemies in impressive & elegant fashion. I give it a yes vote.

I agree with what adelikat said. It's a pity the character moves so slow, but considering the difficulty, it looks impressive. Also giving it a yes.

if you've never played the game, it looks slow and like the character is taking too much damage, but truth is it's a very hard game played like it was easy. voting yes.

Watching that character 'run' is like watching a car chase with riding lawn mowers. I can't really fault the the run for how it's played, but I haven't felt a need to get out and push so strongly since I was stuck on 56k. Luckily, the run is short enough to have held my attention the whole way through. I think I would have liked to have seen a no damage run more, however, even at the cost of time. In the end, the boss fights (particularly the last one) make it more worthwhile than anything else. I give it a yes vote, either way.

In spite of how unbelievably slow the character "runs" (yes, I know everyone's mentioned it already,) I was entertained. I do agree, however, that you get even more appreciative of this run upon trying to play the game. I did just that once I finished watching the movie, and man, it is hard! From what I can tell, it's nearly impossible to avoid getting hit in this game, which makes your great maneuvering and the fact that you punch through all of those enemies without blinking an eye (if one could see your eyes, anyway) even more impressive. Oh, and the old English (!?) was pretty funny too. Voting "Yes." Congratulations on what seems to be the first SMS TAS here!

Yeah I forgot to mention that. Oh and at one time, the text says: "you have obtained sord X" :) Thank you all for watching, It made me pretty happy that a few of you saw this run since SMS is not exactly a popular platform :)

"His battle done, he continues tiptoeing across Japan in wooden shoes..." Like the others, I give it a lukewarm thumbs up.

Contrary to the submission text, the J version doesn't stay in sync past the message at the end of the first level.

I would ask you what your plans are after this, angerfist, but i already know you are planning to traverse to a place unknown, unbeknownst to us us here in the forums, deep within something unknown in your mind. Knowingly, I give this sucker a thumbs up.

While slow-paced, the game certainly looks absurdly difficult and deserves to be destroyed. Yes vote for succeeding in this.

I had watched this run previously without commenting on it but I decided to rewatch it and comment because I liked it. The game kind of reminds me a bit of Castlevania and Ninja Gaiden. It's kind of like Castlevania because of the building being destroyed at the end and other little things (being slow and stair-clinging) and it's kind of like Ninja Gaiden because of all the unfair projectiles and enemies always coming out and respawning. I found the music kind of nostalgic even though I have never played a Master System nor have I ever heard of this game, ha ha! It's a good run which is why I voted yes on it, the first time I watched it.

Same to me. Also, I think the game is not very interesting, but I'm glad to see a game on new system was submitted. And thanks for the emulator. ^ ^

Great run of one of my fav SMS games. I don't think it's that hard..Or that slow. It's a castlevania-style action game.

Hey guys, know what? This game reminds me of Castlevania; not sure how, but it does! (Also, voted yes a couple days ago.)

I've been experimenting with encoding SMS runs. With AngerFist's permission here (YouTube link) is an encoding of this run for the curious who can't get dega working. :-)

Oh man! I know it's only YouTube but the sound on that video is pretty horrendous. Still nice for people who can't/won't use Dega though, at least until a proper published AVI.

Weak meh vote because the character moved slowly, the graphics did not amaze me, and the attacks were bland. However, nothing overtly sucked and I stayed somewhat amused, so it doesn't get a no vote.

About bland attacks, I was kind of hoping this would be a 100% run where you did all the training levels and got all the moves. Those levels are pretty tough and would be interesting to watch.

Hmm, can the character move any slower? Interesting. when you hit the boss, he has his invunerability period, but during this, you can not get hurt by touching him. I must say, this game is slow. But, it seems like it would be really hard to finish without tools. You took hits to save time and your boss fights looked fast. Reminds me of holy diver, in a way... Nice run. Voting yes. EDIT: thanks to sgrunt for uploading to youtube :)

Congratulations on the first accepted SMS run! I'd like to claim this for encoding, as I've previously encoded it.
