We all know that the Zelda 64 OOT tas will be obsoleted someday, however the tas in unique in the fact that there is commentary. The commentary, while not being part of the run adds entertainment, and presents a unique case. (I have had friends ask me if there was commentary for other movies.) I think, instead of it being obsoleted, it should be moved to concept demos, as a concept of a speedrun with commentary. Thoughts?

I would rather a new commentary was made for the new movie, in order to keep the presence of a commentary; or other TASes start getting commentaries made (Earthbound was getting such a treatment I believe?) As novel as GuanoBowl's run was, JXQ's unique and innovative commentary should not save it from obsoletion, as it is a sub optimal run with 45+ minutes that can be saved.

I have mixed feelings about this. Yes, JXQ's commentary was extremely funny and innovative; however, I really doubt a comedy commentary of this level can be acheived for either a future run of OoT or any other game. While I feel it should be noted somewhere, somehow for its uniqueness and it's ability to actually keep the run interesting, even during dull moments, I do not think the run which it accompanies should be saved from obsoletion purely because of the commentary. Perhaps someone can suggest another solution to the problem (for example, the author of the next submission noting it in their submission comments, publication comments, etc.)

As a head's up, I fully intend on doing this in the next couple of days for the new Zelda 2 run. Like, a serious commentary, I'm not particularly funny.

There was a commentary for Earthbound >> Thread. I thought it was very enjoyable; not so much from a comic perspective, but NapstrPSX is familiar with the game and provided interesting insights into the TAS. I disagree that people should stop making them if they can't be as amusing as JXQ's. I like the idea of serious commentaries made by the authors or other users in the know. I'll probably make one of these someday, but more on that nearer the time...

Just listened to JXQ's commentary for the first time, absolutely loved it. I wish he did more of those! I tried to check out the link to the earthbound one, but the only download link to the full commentary is dead/expired, which is sad I would have liked to hear it (pssst I'd love to hear bisquit's megaman commentary that he mentioned... even if I don't understand finnish). I don't think they'd all need to be funny. I think if they just had fun with it and threw in their own natural humor here or there along it'd be great. :)

:O thank you so much Hal! I gleaned from reading that thread that I should refer to you as Hal instead of Hala from now on. ;) Thanks for uploading that watching/listening to it now!

I really liked the Ocariana of Time commentary since it covered a lot of the things that bother my brother and I about the game. The different coloured text, how Link looks like a brain dead moron when he learns a new song, how link doesn't know what anything means during the text when you get a spiritual stone, and a few other things. It was a bit raunchy at times though. I've always liked the idea of commentaries, but the serious kind, like how certain things worked and stuff. Though I must admit that while watching the Link to the Past TAS, I thought of some things that made me laugh. The old guy who gives you the Pegasus boot (Saharashila or something (I'll laugh if I spelled that right)) Said his family passed it down for generations. So his family passed down a moldy old shoe for generations? I also liked how the ocarina was called a flute, and I thought to myself "I'm glad they changed it to Ocarina for the N64. The Legend of Zelda: Flute of Time just doesn't sound as good"
