F-Zero for SNES was published with only one track done. It was one of the first games for the SNES. Now here’s a game that doubles F-Zero’s tracks with the first game released for the GBA. F-Zero: Maximum Velocity is a typical racing game with a very fast-paced twist.
Also note that both the Japanese and English version (ROMs 0001 and 0041) work for this movie.

Game objectives

Comments

This is the only thing I have been planning and working on since my joining in January 2008. The process of the fastest racing line took a month and a half, then the production took about another month and a half. I chose this game because I was looking for games that may be good to run, and seeing as there is already an SNES F-Zero concept by Saturn, I thought that the GBA version would work out too.

Other comments

Make sure that Allow Left+Right is on. There IS a faster time than this, but that is using a vehicle that you can only get by defeating all cups, which would be a run on it’s own, for someone with enough time. This is merely a concept demo of the first stage, kind of like what Saturn did with the normal F-Zero run.

girfanatic501: I never knew that there was a password for MV (thanks to Comicalflop/caitsith2), so I have no choice but to cancel this submission and work on a new one working through all the cups. Like AKA said, what's the point of one track anymore?

I haven't played MV much, but I can notice right away some errors in your run. You should land smoothly after the jumper by pressing down, and you shouldn't replenish your energy, you don't need it. I don't know which is the best time with that car, but the WR is 1'48"01 (with Jet Vermilion). I look around on youtube & found a run of 2 minutes with another car. I highly recommend you to use a different car (though you would need to unlock the cars first). If you have any question, I also recommend you to ask on MFO's forum. It might not be very active, but people will surely help you ;)

I think that you can use a password to access all cars, because such a password exists in F-Zero X, and I know passwords exist in GBA games to access all difficulty modes, like Monkey Ball for example. So you should really look into if a password is possible; if not, unlock it and use start from SRAM movie file. There's a few GBA runs where that's accepted. This, plus smaurai goroh's mentioning of how it's not optimal, makes me also recommend to redo.

A redo is definitely recommended. I could easily waste that time, real time, if I wasn't constrained to a keyboard for playing. As for that jump, yes, hold down. Not only do you land smoothly, but you can cut off a bigger chunk of the track. As for unlocking passwords, there is one for the jet vermillion in this game. You can grab a password generator from http://caitsith2.net/fzero_password.zip (Source code is included.) (Every name you use, has a different password required.) Conveniently, the password for name "LOL" is "02=T4PL=M?YJ"

My opinion is that submitting only one track of a racing game is like submitting only one fight of a fighting game, or one stage of a platformer. I.e., incomplete for all purposes.

A couple of years ago it might have been acceptable to submit one track of a game, since there was a lack of frame advance and memory watch adding to "this genre is so hard that you're gonna be taking at least 2 years spending every waking hour just so you can produce an acceptable run of every track in the game". I honestly don't see why racing games should get speacial treatment in this sense much like having 1 level in a sonic game.
