This is a glitchfest run, meant to show off how you can abuse the word recognition program.
I used Snes9x v1.43+ v9.
  • Is a demonstration
  • Exploits glitches
  • Manipulates Luck
WARNING: THIS TAS CONTAINS COARSE LANGUAGE
The first bit of luck manipulation was to force the game to pick the shortest family name for my opponent. "Hall" is the shortest name, which means less time was used during the name-typing process. The fact that they appear as the most dumbfounded and shocked family when you beat them is an unintentional and hilarious side-effect.
Each round, luck was manipulated to ensure there were as many answers as possible, to abuse word recognition as often as possible. Round 1 has twelve answers, round 2 and 3 each have six.
While answers were carefully chosen to be as ridiculous and elaborate as possible and still count as correct, all other factors were chosen with speed in mind. The bullseye round is skipped and all answers are typed as fast as possible.

adelikat: Hilarious. Gladly accepting for publication.

Samsara: The publication file has been replaced with a resynced version on BizHawk 2.8, courtesy of DrD2k9. This was done primarily to replace one piece of outdated language used in the original run, but also has the added benefit of more accurate sound emulation.

How exactly does the word-matching algorithm thingy work?

I assume that as long as the individual letters of the word appear in the correct order it does not matter what is in between.

Yeah. Thats the way it works. There is one more detail as well. If there are two of the same letter in a row, in an answer, a single instance of that letter will replace it. example. Cup OF urinE = COFE = COFFEE. The other consideration, is that there are words that are taken to be equal to the correct answer, which is sometimes used as well. It seems all of the GAMETEK games are programmed like this, as you can use these same glitches in Jeopardy as well.

Holy crap, fantastic. May I suggest changing the screenshot? That's like putting a shot of the final boss. No alternate suggestions I'm afraid... I guess pretty much any of the other answers.

Indeed!

so how does this work? do your answers just need to have the correct answer somewhere in them? When you used "No smiling or winking", I actually guessed it was No smoking before it popped up because it seemed to have the right letters
no smiling or winking
no sm o king
am I on the right track? edit: lolll that must be exactly how it works. one of the answers was "sales clerk" and i put in "salmon escalator jerk", and i got it right. lmao

I agree, and would go with something more contextually relevant, if you follow my thinking...

It's probably just looking for "smoking", but yeah.

I suggest "YOUR SHOW SUCKS". :) Alternatively, "ABRACADABRA I WIN" also makes nice mockery of the game.

Loved it :) One thing, how did 'OGRES ALLOWED SPARINGLY' get mistaken for 'KEEP OFF THE GRASS'?

This is just a guess, but OGRES ALLOWED SPARINGLY = GRAS = GRASS = KEEP OFF THE GRASS

I'd guess they were looking for GRAS (i.e. "grass"), which that phrase does contain. Edit: shows what I get for posting before noticing that there was another page of posts.

A ten for entertainment, both for the TAS and for the discussion topic. Excellent job, mr Evil Genius.

I believe the summary of this movie is inaccurate. In the game show, the final round is played by 2 members of the winning family, not both families.

Classic Concentration for the NES is the same way. I couldn't figure out the puzzles but typing in the components literally would mutate into the correct answer. Funny that I recently explained this to somebody. Hilarious movie. I don't remember laughing so hard at a TAS. This is a new category of "broken".

The show does not air in Australia. Yet this is one of the most amusing TAS's I've ever seen.

"Abuses programming errors in the game" Really? Really? Ya think?! Also, best video ever. "Your show sucks" indeed.

This movie is amazing. I almost fell out of my chair! Hehe. Hehehe. See, I'm still laughing. Hahahahahahahahahaha... I'd have given this a 10/10 if I had seen it before.

You can still mess up the ratings here you know: http://tasvideos.org/rating.exe/my/1248 ;P

I don't understand the requests for slower answers. Regardless of that going against the idea of a speed run, I could read all the questions just fine (admittedly, sometimes on the 2nd time they were asked but that made it no less amusing). Brilliant idea and good comedy.

Encoded in HD by popular request! Yes, people request me to HD encode movies, most of them SNES, annoyingly. I hope no one minds the third subtitle I inserted, consider it a miniature commentary addition of sorts.

Starred movies are a small selection of movies that a first-time viewer could watch to get an overall idea of what TASing is about. They usually ought to have high standards of quality, but that's not the main point: The main point is to introduce the newcomer to the joys of TASing. I have to agree with you that this one is quite starworthy material. There's a sticky thread in the 'General' group where you can nominate movies for stars.
