Dark Castle frame war ensue!
This is the 11 frames faster Dark Castle TAS that has been available for a long time.

These are the unnoticeable improvements:

  • 1 frame was saved in the intro/hub room.
  • 10 frames were saved with a better ladder grab technique, which was pointed out by Stanski.

These things...

  • Plays at hardest level
  • Aims for fastest (input) time
  • Abuses programming errors in the game
  • Genre: Platform

The Dark Black Knight says:

Nobody can improve this TAS, not even you! Hahaha!

mmbossman: I'm first, it seems. Accepting as an improvement to the published movie.
ShinyDoofy: Will process, but delay publication for now.

As much as I'd like to see an empty workbench, I beg you: do not hastily accept movies. History has seen many cases (several of them with Aqfaq's submissions, no less!), when an improvement is found shortly after the submission, leading to unpleasant "d'oh" moments which could have been avoided with a day's worth of waiting. This is as good a time to start learning on the past mistakes as any.

While I share your concern for quick publication of movies, I believe that Aqfaq has been sitting on this improvement for some time, and was avoiding submission because of the small ratio of improvement. It is very unlikely for an outside source to find improvements for this game, and if Aqfaq/Stanski haven't been able to find new techniques after sitting on this one for a while, I don't really forsee an update soon. However, I will probably be proven wrong in the next 24 hours... :/ Additionally, I hold no power on when a movie gets published, other than giving the initial go-ahead. I'll chat with Shinydoofy to postpone publication for a little while.

Usually I don't make encodes of already accepted movies, but this was short enough it wasn't really a bother: http://rapidshare.com/files/194896163/darkcastle-tas-aqfaq_stanski.avi.

That link is wrong. Change the second = to &. I'll delete this post when you're done (if nobody posts after me).

And back in college, I spent a good five minutes convincing my roommate, a math major, that 8+5 was not 11. :) Computer scientists can't count, math majors can't add.

This movie has been published. The posts before this message apply to the submission, and posts after this message apply to the published movie. ---- [1256] Genesis Dark Castle by Aqfaq & stanski in 00:56.37

To be fair, Mathematicians rarely encounter numbers as big as 8.

How come the old version is called: "darkcastle-tasv5-aqfaq,stanski.avi" And the new version: "darkcastle-tasv2-aqfaq,stanski.mkv" That doesn't make any sense at all...

According to the Publisher Guidelines, v2 should be used for the second submission by the same author(s). Why the old one was called v5 I can only guess at it was the 5th publication of a run for this game.

1080p YouTube 1080p MKV (Note the filename has an error in it, it is suppose to be tasv2, but I can't be assed fixing it) I'm slightly disappointed ShinyDoofy isn't a publisher anymore... what happened?

just noticed this was published, and just a comment about hte "dont publish this too fast" the reason we didn't submit it back then was i pointed out a jump in the first level for him to make a new movie and he made a new movie before i played the game more and found the ladder climbing glitch. so yea its funny that you say that since we decided not to immediately submit it as an improvement since it was 11 frames and literally a few days after the previous one was published. sorry i suck at tas'ing or i would have found those things on my own but i was just going based on playing the game regularly. yes he's been sitting on this improvement for a good 2 years now and i dont see a big improvement coming, especially since this game has been improved so many times. Now if someone would ever improve sonic 2 with all the new stuff that was found there in the last 3-4 years (wow can't believe its been that long! so many new fun things in that game)... nice job aqfaq finally submitting it and putting my theory/bad explanations of techniques into practie, and thank you for crediting me.
