First, I'm sorry about some inconvenience. I'm Vietnamese, my English is not good. Then, I intered in the videos/records here. I tried to make a new record.I saw alot of tutorials here, but it's too much therefor I don't see what tutorial I need Can you help me about tutorials? Here my questions: - Can I use any rom with any verison for making records? Because a game have some roms with some verison. If not, please guide me where can take roms for make records. - I already have had a replay for record (ex: file.smv). I don't know how long of video that I must record ??? Begin->last hit to boss, or begin->last trailer (after last hit to boss). What end point of video that I must record ? - How can calculate time of record? - How can you define the end point of my record (Begin->last hit to boss)? - After taking the video of my record, the video has a big size (some of gigabytes), how can I submit my movie with that big size? Or what the better way to do ? Hope to see you soon!!!

Welcome :) 1) You should use roms labeled as "[!]" in the GoodXXX sets. They are perfect dumps. When there are more versions, such as "J", "E", "U", which stands for Japan, Europe, USA, you should choose wisely. European roms run at 50Hz so they're not a good choice as a rule of thumb. Japanese roms may have unreadable text, but sometimes there are bugs and glitches that work only in them. It's a good thing to discuss the rom version beforehand in the discussion forums if you need some specific advices. Also, hacks aren't welcome, and exceptions are rarely granted. One more thing, please note that you can't ask for roms on this forum. So you should edit your post to blank out that request. 2) You must record from start, without savestates if the game makes use of them (e.g. an RPG that saves your progress and your stats). It must be like you're playing the game for the first time. There is no clear rule about the ending point instead, but once the movie is finished, you must ensure that the game gets to the last screen in the game without further input, might it be a "The End" screen or a "Game Over" screen. 3) Emulators and NesVideoAgent calculate that by counting the frames recorded. 4) See 2. 5) You don't submit an AVI (or MKV) file to tasvideos.org, you submit your recording (file.smv), zipped. Then a qualified encoder will make an AVI (or MKV), but only if your speedrun is good enough to be published. There is a number of people (including me) who make encodes of the movies in the workbench sometimes though. I hope this can be of some help :)

Help !!! I have not read the forum rules! Can someone point out them to me, especially the part about no ROM requests/linking? [Edit by moderator]

You can't download ROMs from that site. In fact, where you find them should be your own concern. Asking for ROMs or distributing links to them is prohibited here. Search engines like Google do help, though.

It's against site rules to provide you with pointers to ROMS. You will just have to search for them yourself EDIT: already answered

Because then the site would be aiding copyright infringement, which would give the copyright owners good cause to stomp it down hard. And if you think that there's little cause to defend games that are upwards of twenty-five years old now, I'd like to direct your attention to a) Nintendo's classic games store on the Wii, and b) the DS subforum.

Yeah, Wii has little cause to defend the DS, 'cause it's old now!

Wii gotta respect our elders.
"Genuine self-esteem, however, consists not of causeless feelings, but of certain knowledge about yourself. It rests on the conviction that you — by your choices, effort and actions — have made yourself into the kind of person able to deal with reality. It is the conviction — based on the evidence of your own volitional functioning — that you are fundamentally able to succeed in life and, therefore, are deserving of that success." - Onkar Ghate

Hmm. If you gotta find some roms, I don't know how to help. On a totally unrelated note, Google is often very helpful for finding things on the internet. I just have to make sure I include plenty of keywords to make sure Google knows what I'm looking for.
