In my mind Bisqwit's Helmet avatar will always be tied directly to TASvideos. It has been integrated into the site such as the default pic for publications wtih no screenshot. Now that he is departing should we change this pic (and other places that may have this avatar)? Or do we leave it as kind of a site symbol/emblem/logo? My vote is that it become the official TASvideos logo in honor of Bisqwit and his awesome contributions
It's hard to look this good. My TAS projects

Sounds like we need a middle ground between homage and progress. I nominate Ghastly wearing a Megaman helmet.

I'm fine with that. The only reasonable icons we could use would be iconic (ahem) symbols from old, well-known videogames. Megaman's as good as any, especially since we're already using Mario on the site header.

There is a major change and I believe that a new logo would be a good idea.

The empty helmet clearly shows the main thing is missing. Which is the case when we have a fake image up.

The "major" change is only internal, and basically invisible to the users. It's not like the users are now been offered something drastically different.

No, but anyone who is/has been active in the site itself will definitely see/feel a difference in the site. Don't downplay this.

I'm not downplaying anything. I'm saying that the Megaman helmet is a great symbol and IMO shouldn't be dropped lightly. Personally I don't consider a change in the server to be such a drastic change in the public image of the website that it would merit that.

I like it and don't mind it staying. As it has been used in so many .avi files it is connected more strongly to the site rather than Bisqwit himself and so Bisqwit's departure shouldn't alter the effect of the logo. Views of our publications on external sites or internal downloads from external links are into the millions by now and I think it's safe to say that the majority of these views are of runs of probably less than ten to twenty games (e.g. SM64, OoT, SMW etc). Most of these big publications were encoded by Bisqwit using his Megaman Helmet / Star Ocean logo (which is cool, I hope it still gets used). I think it does represent the site strongly and should stay (it is also worth noting that big publications not encoded by Bisqwit were encoded (usually) by DeHackEd who used Megaman X in his logo, not the same, but the Megaman connection is there). I'm not arguing that external perceptions should affect our right to change our logo if we want to , I'm just saying that it's worth considering since our current one ain't broke. Alternatively, we could have a "design an icon/mascot" competition and include Bisqwit's in the poll. Just so we can see what others can come up with ;-)

Second! That sounds like fun.

If we make a poll so users can choose our new logo, we will probably end up with something like this:
You're just fucking stupid, everyone hates you, sorry to tell you the truth. no one likes you, you're someone pretentious and TASes only to be on speed game, but don't have any hope, you won't get there.

I'd say either leave it or, if it can be done in a lightweight fashion, something random of such encoder logos. Weighted towards leaving it though- it performs its function admirably, and others might not do as well. Are there any other bits where it's officially used, or just the default screenshot? (Obviously we don't mess with his avatar(s) on his posts.)

I agree with Zurreco about a middle ground. We should make up a whole series of icons consisting of one video game character in a megaman helmet, and randomly select which one to display. (or cycle them daily, or some other option)

I'd say keep it as it is, in honor of the creator of this site. It's good, so I don't see why we should change it.

this is going to remplace one of the logo in the top-left corner like this one and this one or we are just talking about the logo for submission "without screenshot" ?

I assume it would be across the board. And personally, I say keep what we have.

I like this idea quite a bit. It showcases the history of the site while showing that we've branched out a lot since the NES days. And when PS2 TASing becomes a reality, Kratos in a megaman helmet will be sweet.

This makes me think... How about having a representative placeholder for a given system? The NES would have the current one, the Playstation would have Alucard, etc. I think the current one is too integral to just give up entirely; I associate it more with the site than I do Bisqwit.
A hundred years from now, they will gaze upon my work and marvel at my skills but never know my name. And that will be good enough for me.

The representative for NES would be Mario rather than Megaman. However, I think the Megaman helmet is way cooler than anything Mario.

Why fix what isn't broken? Megaman is more a symbol of TASvideos overall than it is just Bisqwit. Why not work on something a little more eye-pleasing, like giving the forum its own damn scheme instead of this shitty default? (And maybe you could even remove some of the arbitrary restrictions in robots.txt, since we aren't running on a home server.)

I find it rather ironic that you first advocate "not fixing what isn't broken" and then immediately suggest changing the forum scheme. Exactly what is broken about the scheme, which needs fixing?-)

How 'bout we just use the awesome face, since TAS videos are so awesome? :D We could even combine it with the Megaman helmet: *gets mega buster'd*

If you're going to arbitrarily change something because it "associates us with things we aren't associated with", you might as well change the wholly generic phpbb2 theme that is all over the damn internet. The board theme is in no way unique and feels like literally every place on the internet.

yeah. the forum background needs some color a dinosaur type interactive background, where i can click on colors and color dinosaurs. i'm getting giddy with excitement just thinking of all the ways we can incorporate dinosaur coloring into the forum. instead of "post reply" we could have "color a dinosaur" and instead of the delete reply button we could have an erase a dinosaur button and instead of Frequently Asked Questions we could have Frequently Colored Dinosaurs and instead of this two column table layout it could all be shaped like a dinosaur and instead of gruefood we could have old fossils and instead of published movies we could have colored dinosaurs and and we could move the Who is Online link to the top of the page because that would be helpful and i use it a lot and then we could relabel it as Who is Coloring a Dinosaur. is this what you had in mind? great idea!
