This is my first submission. I didn't created a topic in the forum before this because my english sucks, but I read all that I need to make this TAS. Being my first TAS, it wasn't a perfect run. The game is so damm long and because of this in some levels i had to go back on the map, especially in the final stages when the REMO's ran out.
A little description:
  • Emulator: Gens Re-Recording v11a
  • I didn't use any pass or warp
  • Programming errors (just a few):
    • Hit and back on ladders
    • pass through wall
  • I aim for fasted time and took damage to save it
Game description: You're a teenager robot who is going to date a pretty robo-girl when your car broke. You fall at a unknown world and start to shot anyone who dare to move. Sometimes you ride a pretty annoying ship, just to see your girl, or fight with evil bosses.
Oh, just a thing. Already has a B.O.B speedrun, made in 2005 by Windeu. He made a wonderful tas! He chose a SNES version, and I chose the genesis one. I think the genesis version has a better physics. My version is 16min 4sec faster. I think it is because I took dmg.
Well, it was a little bit hard to make this speedrun. In part because is my first tas. I don't know so much good techniques, scripts... Only after a few levels I started to make backups! I done a few mistakes, like shot the nothing, but I tried to minimize them.

adelikat: While it seems to be a big improvement over the published movie, this movie is apparently quite improvable.

I'll check this out soon. I think the MD version is indeed superior for speedrunning.

Ah, B.O.B., I remember this game well. The Mega Drive/Genesis version is the better version for speedrunning, for sure. However I have several issues with the run itself. First of all, too much time is wasted getting the REMOs, you got a lot more than you needed in certain places and even spent time getting into crawlspaces for superfluous REMOs. Similarly, you got a lot more of the best weapons than you needed, so optimising the collection of ammo is another factor. The rest of the run looks great though, but I'm going to give it a Meh vote because it can be improved simply by planning more carefully Ammo/REMO collection and maybe using REMOs in other places.

As soon as I saw this run on the workbench, I got the theme to the first level stuck in my head. Dammit, man! :)

Wow, people are saying good things about this? Maybe I'll actually watch this one. Instead of the SNES run, whose description text was essentially, "Don't watch this run. This game is crappy. This run is boring. God, why are you even reading this." Update: It's pretty interesting to watch this run; it seems you're learning more about how TASes go as you move through the game. Unfortunately this means the early parts are a bit dirty. Lag reduction could be a lot better, powerup acquisition could be streamlined a little, and it seems something should be done about your precision--at least once I saw you "just miss" a ledge and have to jump back up to it from the ground, which was some twenty frames of no progress. That said, I'm glad to see this get posted, and I think you have some good things to offer here--just be sure to watch quite a few of the other videos and learn some tricks. And hang out in the IRC channel, and take advantage of those who are gurus and know the mystical arts of the subpixel, among other things. Voting meh. Run's a bit under par, but it's a game that looks like it needed it, and it's not a terrible run by any stretch--just could use some improvement. That's what the site's about, right?

To clarify: I haven't actually watched the run yet. I just played a lot of B.O.B. a decade or so ago, and it only has like three tunes, so they got pretty wired into my skull. :) Seeing as it's a significant improvement on an old run, though, it seems like it should be worth publishing even if it could itself be improved.

The game is just really darn long. I actually liked seeing damage being taken... it makes B.O.B. charge more like Rambo and it makes the car-riding stages much faster. I would really like to see an improved plan of ammo usage, and it would've been fun to see more weapons used without losing time. The fist is always fun, for instance.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! I'm going to vote no. The biggest problem I saw was the use of REMOs. For example, there were many times when falling a great distance that you used the umbrella just one or two frames before you hit the ground, sometimes you used it after you hit the ground, took fall damage and started the falling/stunned animation. The umbrella does cancel this animation, but almost every time, your velocity is canceled when you could have just used it much earlier and floated to the ground. Also, you accelerate much faster when jumping than on the ground, so at the beginning of each level you should start with a jump. This was even posted on the comments to the last run (which I don't feel should still be published). When climbing ladders, you don't use a consistent pattern in jumping. Sometimes it is every 3 or 4 frames, sometimes it is every 7. This tells me, along with the very low number of rerecords, that you played the whole way through at low speeds, and not frame advance. Perfection is a requirement here, and you already know that this is not a perfect run. I do feel that you should try this again. Post your progress in the forums, even if english isn't your first language, we'll be able to help you out.
