I am currently working on a Kirby Super Star Ultra TAS. If anyone knows of any time saving glitches and/or tricks like the left+right glitches with jet and fire on Kirby Super Star, let me know as soon as possible. I am currently on Dyna Blade at around 60,000 rerecords. If you do not know the difference of this version from the SNES version, this version has 3 or four more games, making it longer.

http://de.nicovideo.jp/search/usdx+tas (user: Kirbypedia<at>gmail.com, pw: krrrocks1) I myself haven't touched this game yet, I'd like to play it first, when it comes out in my country. Also, care to show your progress?

This speedrun in my opinion is horrible. I made some careless mistakes on Spring Breeze, after that it wasn't half bad except for the second course on Gourmet Race, in which my friend beat me without tools. I will get it uploaded on YouTube once I finish Dyna Blade. Because there are extra games, this run may take over 1.5 hours. One game in particular, Meta Knightmare Ultra took my friend, legoking831, 38 minutes to finish it on an actual Nintendo DS. I can do it faster. I have not finished the game on my system, but I got some of the methods on my TAS from you, smns72,WaddleDX, and other Kirby Super Star TASers.

It may take a few weeks to finish Dyna Blade, because I am getting lazy.

I don't think that left+right, or up+down works the same as in the J version of KSS. Flame glitch didn't work... and based on how the game handles holding 2 opposite buttons at once, I don't think any of the extreme glitches from J version will transfer here.... especially since I'm guessing physics were probably taken from the U version.

I made a TAS of Spring Breeze this weekend. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YfquWKsuydw It's more of a test movie than a serious attempt. I got the game yesterday and after playing through it, I felt like doing this mode. There might be some possible strategical improvements to it. The ingame movies aren't emulated accurately time-wise. Audio and movie are out of sync so I didn't include the ending clip here. The movie starts from SRAM, but I didn't have any actual save data. I just didn't want to include the "initialising save data..." part. The movie file can be found in the youtube video description.

Wow, a Kirby game that hasn't immediately devolved into spamming Wheel! ...instead we see Bird get spammed. Oh, well. Nice work!

Bird spam? A breath of fresh air from the tried and true wheel spam.

you are an NDS encoding ninja more encoders should do what you do, possibly switching up that left pane to show the bottom screen when that is the more important one

Yeah the encoding it pretty nice ! I really like it. Maybe every NDS games should be encoded like this when there's no action on the second screen (Where the action does not happen on both screen). I don't know if it would be hard to make the active screen switch from the first one to the second one. Like in New Super mario Bros (when you enter a pipe, the action is at the bottom of the screen)

As soon as the bird spam started I began laughing and could not stop. Kirby looks like a fly on a major sugar rush or something. To echo everyone else, that is a beautifully encoded DS video.

With careful viewing and a well-written AviSynth script it can be done

That would be really nice if it was possible. It's probably harder to encode but the end results is very nice :)

I think the bird spamming is more entertaining than the wheel spam and faster as well. I do wonder if it could be faster in later parts of this game (if it is possible in the future) to have one TASer control both Kirby and a helper. It may help when the key objective is not to get from point A to point B.

Hey thanks for all the comments. I'd like to TAS more modes and I focused on MetaKnightmareUltra now. But since your power point count doesn't reset to 0 when starting a new section I'd like to obtain opinions on how to approach this project. TAS every section (spring breeze, dynablade, metaknight etc.) at a time or in one go? If modes are seperately TASed, may I take 50 power points from the previous mode? Otherwise I'd like to do Helper to Hero Buggzy and Tac runs, or true arena (there's already a run but it doesn't seem very optimized).

Time to post new videos Gourmet Race #1 [19.12] is perfect (or not?) Gourmet Race #2 [29.69] has been bested by WaddleDX (29.52), might be improvable by even more Gourmet Race #3 [31.84] might be improvable by ~0.1 second or more, by using backwards hovering in the beginning (which is faster than using a normal hover, see WaddleDX' Gourmet Race #2 video about the discovery of this trick) and better optimization. Meta Knightmare Ultra, Spring Breeze (1:49.00) (obsolete) I made enemies spawn several times to gain their power points quickly. This, however, might have taken too long... And Kracko Jr. should be instant-killed, instead of MrFrosty. The True Arena, without an ability (7:15.74) (URL fixed) I came up with this idea since I was wondering how interesting this hard mode might look like when TASed with a weak ability. Then I chose to take no ability at all. The stone hand boss can be killed faster, but it requires to refill the HP, and I didn't want to do that. Helper To Hero, Sword Knight (4:12.19) Hmm, not much to say here. I was simply inspired by Sword Knight's moves so I did this TAS.

Gourmet Race #1 [19.09] It wasn't as perfect as I thought... so I improved it. Thanks to #TASers, ISM, was0x Meta Knightmare Ultra - Spring Breeze [1:43.24] Much better than my attempt...

Dyna Blade [5:34.01] Nothing much to say here. Gourmet Race #2 [29.34][29.27] Cleaned up WaddleDX's run. About the part where you change directions, you can let Kirby hover towards the first ledge which makes him spit out his air himself (which is faster than any other method). Apparently this can't be done on the second ledge... The lower route is significantly slower, even with backwards hovering. edit: Improved the part where you have to change directions by using <, ,<, ,A instead of <, ,<,A.

Great job on the videos! Just one comment: in the SNES game, the Ultra Jet Jump attack (try to fly with full charge stored) will OHKO minibosses. Does that still happen in the DS version, and, if so, would it be feasible to defeat some of them this way?

No, it does ~40 damage every 30 frames (I haven't checked the exact numbers, it's just an estimation). It doesn't instant-KO.

old post: I planned to do Jet and Suplex, but those aren't very interesting to me. There's an issue with luck-manipulation with Suplex (Bugzzy) that stopped my progress. I'm currently not TASing anything in Kirby USDX, but that might change sometime. And maybe I'd like to try a more interesting helper like fire or fighter? In any case, I don't like to overlap with other's projects, but on the other hand I don't want to claim certain helpers which in the end won't be done due to my laziness... Well, that's all I can say now. I'll contact ISM and WaddleDX if I plan to do another HelperToHero TAS.
