Edit: I found a big improvement, and saved 21 frames in 8-2, also changed some place. The new movie is arriving.
Edit2: I haven't found adelikat, but I have already sent him a message. See here if the movie didn't come:
http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/228054835/SMB2J-TASv2-HappyLee.fm2
This is the real Super Mario Bros 2. It was never officially released in the USA and Europe. It was later ported to SNES, and released as "Lost Levels" on Super Mario All-stars.
This movie is an 67 88 frames improvement over the published movie by klmz. It took me only 2 weeks to finish this one. The improvement comes from perfecting details, they're not as great as my "Moonwalk" action, but it's still a powerful movie.
This movie has few amazing improvements, but it does have solved 3 4 problems have never solved before:
  • Getting the max speed as soon as possible after getting the mushroom in 4-1;
  • Finishing the Bowser fight as soon as possible in 4-4;
  • Jumping over the highest wall perfectly in 5-1.
  • Using the vine perfectly in 8-2
So this movie does have meanings in some ways. To improve the entertainment in this movie, I did less annoying jumps, killed enemys in different ways, choised better ways to run. I didn't do the graphical glitch in 8-2 either, because I didn't want the level in my movie become a mess.

Improvements list

1-1 1 frame gained from a better flagpole glitch.
1-2 3 frames faster at the first solid wall, 1 frame was lost at entering the pipe for some reasons, 2 frames faster by better wall-entry and turning. 4 frame gained in this level.
4-1 6 frames faster by better mushroom-eating. Saved 21 frames.
4-2 1 frame faster by better flower-eating, 1 frame gained from a better flagpole glitch. 2 frames faster by better flower-eating. Because of the terrible randomness in this level, it will send out 3 fireworks if the last number of the time goes "5", so I wasted 9 frames before the flagpole to get a "4". I won't make it if I didn't get 2 frames by better flagpole glitch. This situation wasn't appeared in the movie of klmz, unfortunately, I got a bad randomness again in 8-2, it was totally a bad luck ;( I've found that it wasn't a bad randomness, thanks to Mr. Pwnage and Phil for reminding me of this one. So I changed the way to get coins in this level, lost 1 frame on flower-eating, it was worth it.
4-4 7 frames gained from a better way to kill Bowser. Saved 21 frames.
5-1 17 frames faster at the highest wall by using a walljump instead of walking through it, 1 frame gained from a better flagpole glitch. Saved 21 frames.
5-2 1 frame faster by better turning at the warp-zone.
8-1 1 frame gained from a better flagpole glitch.
8-2 2 6 frame gained from climbing the vine, 8 frames faster by using vine glitch (found by myself last year), and 1 frame gained from a better flagpole glitch. Saved 21 frames. because the bad randomness, I had to waste 4 frames climbing that vine, otherwise it would send out 6 fireworks.
8-3 1 frame faster at the balanced lift, 1 frame gained from a better flagpole glitch.
8-4 1 frame was saved at the first stage by better speeding up, 1 frame was saved at the water stage by better wall-passing, 1 frame was saved at the third stage by better speeding up, the final frame was saved at the forth stage also by better speeding up.
21+21+21+21+1+1+1+1=88
Thanks to klmz and Phil for working hard on this one, also, thanks to SuperSunMario (Chinese) for helping me a little.
Hope you like the new movie!

mmbossman: Replaced the input file at the author's request; the new movie is now 21 frames faster.
mmbossman: Also, accepting. Nice improvement HappyLee!

Raiscan: Processing.

HappyLee: Editing once more to correct my counting mistake. The movie is actually 88 frames faster.

Isn't the "randomness" from 4-2 and 8-2 controllable by changing the number of coins collected? (Check the last digit of coins.)

in a happy lee run the only existing randomness is the number of time mario will jump.

Does that mean that you lost 21 frames? And yes, in smb2j, it's based on coins. Just get one more or one less coin and it will avoid that problem.

Nice job HappyLee! I'd like to see if you can get better luck on 4-2 and 8-2 by adjusting the number of coins you get. However, this concern aside, this is a really nice-looking run and a solid improvement. Thank you as well for the detailed and easy-to-read submission comments. I would suggest the picture that HappyLee took of the Bowser fight in 4-4 as a screenshot.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. I can barely tell this guy isn't a native English speaker anymore. Truthfully, it's more intelligible than half the stuff native speakers pass off.

HappyLee, if these are going to be small changes, then when you're done, you shouldn't create a whole new submission. Instead, send a PM to adelikat with the new file and have this submission updated. I look forward to the new version though!

I'm planning to do this, too. But the problem is I don't have PM, I hope the message box of our forum works. Edit: Oh, so that's what PM means, I've got it.

That's what he meant by PM. As a side note I was just about to vote "yes" on this submission. Oh well.

Ah, my bad, so the PM can go to any judge? Thanks! In any case, nice improvements HappyLee!

Technically any half-admin, but since we don't have any actual "judges" at the moment, it's just semantics.

Any chance of getting an encode up? I'm sure there are a few of us who can't run the rom for various reasons.
