This game is extremely hard in real time. Good thing we have tools to destroy the game completely!
This is a 1175 frame improvement to #2470: Sonikkustar's SNES The Addams Family in 03:38.93 and a 1373 frame improvement to the currently published run. The improvements are due to a lot more zipping, door entry optimization and other small improvements.

Game objectives

  • Emulator used: snes9x-1.43-rerecording-v17
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Takes no damage
  • Abuses programming errors
  • Abuses your understanding of what is going on

Tricks used

Zipping: Run at a speed of at least 30 and face backwards into the wall within 3-5 frames of hitting it.
Door speed: If you hold up and left or up and right through a door you start in the next room with a speed of 14. This is why we turn in some doors. There is also some door lag, but it can be avoided with different inputs.
Entering invisible doors: We don't know how this trick works, but it can be seen in the two vertical cave rooms.
Warping to the main stairway: This trick is not used in our run, as it is completely useless. If you zip and then fall off and on the wall in the top right corner or bottom left corner of the screen, you get warped back to the main stairway.

Comments

This run started about a week ago, when I notified Sonikkustar about a zip improvement I found. Then I slowly found more and more zips everywhere and this is the result. For the past few days we have been doing 2-3 rooms a day, and now we are done.

Memory addresses

2 useful memory addresses we used:
7E0082 - X speed
7E0075 - Y speed

Known Improvements

There may be a few frames left to save, but we only know of one, and we are 99% sure that it needs to be wasted in order to set up the zip in the piranha tank.

Suggested screenshots

Suggested frames for screen shots: 2198, 5677, 7089.
Enjoy!

mmbossman: Heh, nice improvement! Accepting, duh.
sgrunt: Processing.

Alright! Now this game has a much better level of WTFitude. I also like how the beginning parts with the spikes looked more daring, and I liked the spastic motions during Chain of Coins which still manage to get all the money. Awesome improvement from the both of you!
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. From the submission comments:
Shoutouts and thanks to mklip2001 for arguably being the nicest and most supportive person on the forums.

2812 and 2934 are good screenshot frames, too. To me, the entertainment value of a TAS is inversely proportional to how much I understand what the hell's going on. Needless to say, I was quite entertained. And quite confused.

WOW. That was some improvement over the last one. Much more entertaining and certainly worthy of a Yes.

That was such a huge improvement with the zipping glitch. I voted yes on the last submission, and I'm voting yes on this one.

All that glitching from the top of the screen and that weird door were pure awesomeness. Yes vote!
