This game has some interesting glitches. Since I found out them, I decided to submit it here. The game has no credit. So the goal of the run is to beat the final boss and stop inputting keys as fast as possible. I hope you will enjoy it!

Game objectives

  • Emulator used: VisualBoyAdvance 1.7.2 re-recording v19.5
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Abuses programming errors
  • Manipulates luck
  • Takes damage to save time

About the game

Ponta to Hinako no Chindouchuu is a platformer. Ponta is a raccoon dog and Hinako is a bird. Ponta takes Hinako on their quest to her mother. Ponta never dies, but when Hinako runs out of her life and falls to the ground, the game is over. The game has five stages and each stage has a boss. Some bosses have an item that changes the way of Ponta’s attack.

Tricks

Midair Jumping

An invisible footing suddenly appears when Ponta is falling from some exact heights in exact timing. Ponta can stand on it and jump in the air.

Zipping

A small pond takes Ponta under the ground on stage 2 when it damages him. After going into the ground, Ponta can go very quickly nearby the boss of the stage by pressing ←, and pressing A in some timing to adjust the location where Ponta gets out of the ground.

Stage by stage comments

Stage 1 Ochimusha’s Territory

Nothing special here, Ponta just gets a power-up for Hinako.

Stage 2 Festival Pass

MidAir Jumping saves frames at some places. Also an enemy moving right helps Ponta move more quickly to right when Ponta is on it. Ponta does a special performance by Mid-Air Jumping while he fights the boss of the stage. The boss never dies unless Ponta gets an item from the boss. But if Ponta beats it very quickly, it drops the item inside blocks and the item goes out of the screen.

Stage 3 Lake Kurekappa

Just before encountering the boss of the stage, Ponta goes into a small pond and gets to the boss by way of under the ground. After attacking the boss, it is invincible until it jumps and lands on the ground. Therefore, leading the boss to the highest ground is the best way to beat it quickly. To do so, Ponta faints away on the highest ground when the life of the boss leaves two, releasing Hinako to have her attack the boss there.

Stage 4 Mt. Tengu

The boss of the stage is unbeatable unless Ponta gets an item from the boss and attacks it.

Stage 5 Ghost Village

Ponta shoots at an empty place once before getting to the final boss. It looks like a miss, but the purpose of the shooting is to keep some enemy from appearing. Before beating the boss, Ponta releases Hinako and steps forward a bit to lead her to the ideal place. Then I finish inputting keys. Hinako beats the boss automatically.

As a rule, unless a platformer distinguishes itself, I won't find it very entertaining. This game fails to distinguish itself in my eyes. Meh. I see nothing wrong with this movie, aside from the encode missing the rest of the ending.

Please elaborate. I left the movie running after input ended and it never advanced beyond that screen. By all appearances, the only additional screen that can be triggered from there is the high scores list (by pressing start as the screen indicates).

So there is no ending then, okay.

I wonder how long the game took to make. You advance a few screens then fight a boss within one minute and the ending is just one screen of text. I couldn't imagine paying $30 for this. As for the run it was pretty well done but I don't care for the game too much. I'm stuck between yes and meh.

"Ponta is a raccoon dog and Hinako is a bird." I feel compelled to encode this as soon as possible. Edit: Okay, making a few test encodes now, but this is very slow because of the fact I am also encoding that Jungle Book. That, and I have to go to bed very soon. Edit 2: My tests are unsuccessful. Grunt, I hand this encode completely to you. You win this round. =p

I have trouble staying interested in this game with the awful graphics, unfortunately. The midair glitch and the underwater zip are pretty cool, but everything else is quite repetitive, especially the long boss fights. Meh.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. It wasn't the most entertaining game in the world, but it was short and had a couple of nice little touches. The final couple of bosses were a little too long, but otherwise this run just makes the grade in my opinion. Yes.
