We're looking for someone to create a series of images to use for the awards. However, we're not asking for a lot of your own creativity, but rather to take some existing ideas agreed upon by the staff, and dressing them up nicely. The images should all be 40 pixels wide and 60 pixels tall. Each image described should be on a golden pedestal of equal size, except for the two images described to be on a larger pedestal. Best TAS for system X: Use Bisqwit's Megaman helmet in a "smaller size" in gold. Best overall TAS: Same as above, but larger, with the larger pedestal. Glitch TAS: Mario in gold, with his sprite cut in two with the feet on top of the head. Lucky TAS: Two 6 sided dice at an angle, displaying 4 leaf clovers on each. Funny TAS: Mario in frog suit covered in gold. Innovate TAS: Dr. Mario in gold. Speedy TAS: Sonic in gold. Rookie of the year: Baby Mario on Yoshi in gold. Best TASer for system X: Caped Mario in gold. Best overall TASer: Caped Mario on Yoshi, on a larger pedestal. Those are the 10 images we need. All use smaller pedestal except the best TAS and best TASer. Old images for inspiration: http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=105871#105871

I don't think I'm skilled enough to cover all of the award pictures, but here's an attempt at the Lucky TAS trophy (two versions, for gold dice and not gold dice):

That is sort of what I'm thinking for the lucky image. However I believe they need to look better than that, and ideally they'd all be done by the same person so they all look like they were done by the same person (identical pedestals and stuff).

It's not bad, but the angle doesn't work.

Here's a variant on the clover:

That looks better. But what I originally said still stands.

I might stuff around with blender a bit, and see what I can make up. EDIT: fuck it. Maybe just stuff around with the GIMP or something
Measure once. Cut twice.

Here's some concept sprites. I really don't expect any of these to be used except as inspiration (the ones towards the left look noticeably smaller than the ones on the right, for one, and most look smaller than the lucky trophy above).

I think it'd look better if the column were removed. Just make them stand directly on the pedestal. Otherwise, looks good!

Maybe use antialiasing to increase the visual resolution and quality of the icons? (Or is the pixelated look intentional?)

Given the awards are video game related, wouldn't pixelated be the appropriate look. Please, no 5 paragraph responses
It's hard to look this good. My TAS projects

Really? If there's someone with time on their hands to do lots of trophies, wouldn't it be cooler to have a character relative to the system the award is for?
<adelikat> I am annoyed at my irc statements ending up in forums & sigs

Do all the different consoles have some distinctive mascot or popular game character which was introduced in that precise console? We have NES - Mario, Genesis - Sonic, but what about all the others?

You wont have a nec equivalent of mario or sonic, i like the idea of Raiscan, having a miniature icon of the system itself sound nice

Here's my thoughts on representative characters for some of the systems. This is just off the top of my head; there's almost certainly better choices for some. My goal was to avoid repetition while picking standout characters that would be recognizable. NES: 8-bit Mario Genesis: Sonic SNES: Samus N64: An ocarina Gameboy: Kirby GBA: Zero PSX: Richter Belmont

Gameboy: Kirby
While technically speaking the very first Kirby game (Kirby's Dream Land) was for the Gameboy, I have the feeling that Kirby is best known for Kirby's Adventure for the NES, so it might be a bit confusing. Wouldn't the quintessential Gameboy game be Tetris? (After all, it was the single game which helped sell millions of units.)

This quintessential gameboy game lies in gruefood currently... might be a bit strange to use it as a trophy...

For psx maybe alucard more suited than richter ? Both are bad ass anyway, yet i believe mini systems icons are more suited I just figured, but on the pedestal, it need to say 08 or 2008 or whatever the date is tied with the trophy itself (doesnt need to be "huge" just tiny numbers), i think :p

Cooler? Most definitely. Practicality is another matter though. Can we use characters without confusing them for a different category? Should we in some way weigh a system in choosing a particular character? Can we even get a good character for each system? I think the answers to that are: Possibly, Maybe, Probably Not.

One idea may be to do low res versions of the systems or the controllers themselves. Having said that, the recoloured Mario sprites that sgrunt made look rather nice. On the other hand, if 80% are Mario sprites and 20% aren't, it's gonna look odd - as if those are needlessly breaking a cycle.
I'm just some random guy. Don't let my words get you riled - I have my opinions but they're only mine.

Does it make sense to say the best TASer for system X gets a controller icon? As opposed to equating him with a great character?

Controllers would work, though we'd run into a problem once PS2 emulation matures. :) Also saves people from thinking "Oh, he has a Samus icon; that must mean he got the Best Super Metroid TASer award this year." (or, more likely, "Dammit, I'm getting associated with Super Metroid even though I hate the game, just because I got Best SNES TASer this year"). Eh, maybe I'm being paranoid.
