<erokky> ugh no no no no no <erokky> Under the avatar or something, not the sig. <Fluffygon> I agree <Fluffygon> I also want an option to actually hide them <Fluffygon> Every time I see them, I feel more and more imcompetent <Fluffygon> It's degrading <erokky> If I had my way, they'd appear only on the profile page. <Fluffygon> ...that's an even better idea
I personally think they are distracting and honestly, demotivational. The fact images are technically forbidden in signatures is somewhat hypocritical. Edit: Additional statements below.
<erokky> Also have alt text on mouse over so we know what the award is <erokky> Because Mario in a lab coat means nothing to me -- snip -- <Toothache> [09:45:20] <erokky> Because Mario in a lab coat means nothing to me <- never heard of Dr Mario? <erokky> Yes, but in the sense of TASvideos awards, I have no idea what it represents. <Toothache> that is a good point

I wouldn't mind including them in the signature if (1) they're made to match the standard tone of the signature (i.e. #444444 monochrome), (2) they're made small (the height of two lines of text at maximum) and (3) text added to the signature does not add to the height of the signature.

So you'd prefer we go the everyone is a lose.. ahem... winner route?

They're not actually in the signature.

Yeah, if only the alt text actually did that. Don't look at Internet Explorer for standards.

You know it's clickable, right?

They're in the space between the persons post and the next post, it seems pretty signature-like to me.

It's meant to seem like a signature. But it's not actually a signature, it's in a post signature block.

Exactly! It seems like a signature! So what it isn't inside the persons actual signature, it's close enough to be pretty much inside it.

The other option I played with earlier was to make it part of the row of message this user buttons, would you prefer that?

I like the idea of putting them in the avatar block. Placing them beneath the post doesn't make much sense as it's not really attached to the user-info there, and makes the boards seem uneven.
A hundred years from now, they will gaze upon my work and marvel at my skills but never know my name. And that will be good enough for me.

In any case I'd prefer them less obtrusive as suggested earlier…

I think it takes up too much space when there are multiple rewards or large rewards. Here's a few suggestions: Image-link 1 just moves them around to save vertical space 2 hides them beneath a placeholder. It'd be possible to just display the award there for users with one award, and a placeholder with mouseover for those with multiple. This solution takes less space while still allowing to provide more details. Of course, it's the most complicated one ;) btw, <img src=".." alt="alt-text" title="alt-text" /> seems to work well in any browser. alt should be displayed when the image isn't loaded, title when hovering your mouse.

Here's what I was thinking. Ignore the disappeared white line. And the red text and the blue text that tells you to ignore the red text.

2b seems like the best option for me. Otherwise, I'd much prefer toggleable display on posts and permanent display on profile page.

I don't care where it is, but i would like to be able to mouse over it and have it tell you what award it is. I find that I'm constantly going back to the pages that list the awards and looking up what each one is.

One question: do the winners of awards have any control over their display in their posts? I suspect that if I were to win an award (an event of unprecedented unlikeliness) I'd want to hide it, because I really don't like lengthy sigs and it'd be hypocritical of me to have one when other people don't.

I figure perhaps they could be made smaller for post view and displayed beside "Profile" "PM" "IP"

Yeah, if only the alt text actually did that. Don't look at Internet Explorer for standards.
Use the "title" attribute instead. That should work with most browsers.

I find the image pretty big to be in the signature. I like Bisqwit suggestion

The current large awards in the movie pages as well as people's profile pages, smaller and more inconspicuous versions in their forum posts. Would that sound like an idea?

If you haven't noticed. That is exactly what has been done already.

I see where Flygon is coming from. There's only so much "Neener neener look what award I have that you don't" that any average user can take. In the army, I can see the merit of wearing all the badges and medals and such that you win over years of service for protecting your country. But I see no reason for such Peacock-like displays on this site. We're supposed to be focusing on making entertaining movies, not focusing on the authors that made them.

In case with the army it's not for posterity's sake, but for supporting its backbone: the rigid hierarchy. Which is, coming to think of it, something we never had here but are gradually building premises for (player ranks, permission ranks, etc.). To be honest I have no idea what would be the logical conclusion of the current course.

Honestly, I like the idea of awards in profile... but look at who doesn't get them... To name a few: adelikat, Nach - They run the site. That deserves max appreciation. mmbossman, baxter, truncated, cpadolf - Our judges, who have to sit through some really crappy TASes.... shinydoofy - Site coder, keeps this monster running... Flygon, Sgrunt, Aktan, Raiscan, et al. - Our encoders, who have been doing a bang up job letting us watch publications ASAP. Most submissions get 2 encodes in the first 5 posts. Nitsuja, zeromus, gocha, Upthorn, mz, adelikat (again), et al - Coders for the emulators we use. They don't get the respect they deserve. Sorry, the emulators and improvements to them are far more important than the actual TASes that get produced. Really, I'd rather see special things be given to them, over someone who wins an award for a TAS. The people I listed really don't get the appreciation they deserve.
