  • Recorded with FCEUX 2.0.4, syncs with 2.1.2 on old PPU
  • Fastest time to reach the ending
  • Luck manipulation (featuring more bruteforcing!)
A 20 minute improvement to the published run, mostly from better luck manipulation and a few route changes.
I had just finished this run last night, and was going to redo it with even better manipulation and route planning (which might save another few minutes) before submitting, but unexpected news of the site closing down means I probably won't get to do it, or even see this run published ... I'm just submitting this here (with a much shorter description than planned) so it can at least be seen a few more times than from the game discussion thread. (or if/when a similar site starts up)
All I'll say is that I've once again looked into the game's ASM for everything that happens in All-Out (attacks, tactics, etc.) and random encounters so I could replicate them in C and bruteforce millions of frame delay combinations to manipulate very unlikely odds, and I use All-Out a lot more than the published run did (where most of the gains come from).
April Fools! The site isn't closing, so I'm canceling this and will be back later with a proper (and better) submission.

Wow. Very nice job dissecting this game and coming up with such a large improvement! I think that submitting earlier than expected makes sense. The question is: does that mean this run has "known improvements"? In this case, I don't think that should be a cause for rejection, since it's not clear how much improvement you'll be able to get, plus this is already a sizeable improvement for the time being.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. From the submission comments:
Shoutouts and thanks to mklip2001 for arguably being the nicest and most supportive person on the forums.

I'm not exactly sure how much time will be gained, but probably a few minutes total ... I found a better way to manipulate battles fairly late in the run (that should gain up to a few seconds per battle), and can avoid battles better as well (but that'll only add up to a few seconds), but I don't think much else will change. Either way, I canceled this run now since the site (obviously) isn't closing and I'm about to start redoing it. The whole run took about a month to make, but half of it was the ASM work and coding, so it should go a little faster this time ...
