Move all pirate_sephiroth! For great justice! I look forward to seeing this completed. I won't watch any WIPs until then. Good luck!

hey, guys... Something weird happened last saturday, when I was training a bit, to know the stages better. It was on stage 2.5, right when I started it. There are 2 enemies there (in SotN they're both the same, called Wereskeleton). Well, I was trying to see how close I could whip the "cat" thing. After a few tries, Richter was SENT FLYING, like what happens when he receives a fierce attack,... and I didn't receive ANY DAMAGE AT ALL. Problen is... I wasn't recording! I tried to redo it, but I couldn't.... then I started recording and tried for more 3 hours, and achieved nothing... If I were to guess, maybe it was because I killed the "cat" and at the same frame the other guy hit me with his yoyo head. First I though that I had whipped the "cat" and he hit me at the same time, but I could never do this, neither with the cat nor any enemy so I almost think it's impossible. Anyway, if this has happened to anyone else before...

Yes, something similar did happen to me once. When I was testing around the cave level, I got hit by one of the axe men and he sent my flying just how you described. I wasn't able to duplicate this ever, and I wasn't recording at the time either, so I understand how you feel. If you could find out how it works, it would be pretty cool.

OK. Stages 2 and 3 are done. The last parts of stage 3 were impossible to optimize (due to their simplicity): one is an empty room and the other is the boss. Right now, I'm around 450 frames faster then the published run. NOTES: After I killed the Knight boss, I'm hit by his final attack, receiving 1 HP damage thus reducing the time in the score screen by 1 frame. I didn't do that after I killed the Bat boss because when I'm hit by the bats, the red orb takes more time to appear. Don't ask me why... Zurreco mentioned some "Merman Skip" thing, well I don't know what is that or where it can be performed. All I could do was a "Bat Skip"...

I remember it being a "Merman Boost", the kind that looks similar to when you get hit by that stomping bull thing in stage 1, a much more significant boost than when you normally get hit by an enemy.

hah... so, that's the same superknockback thing no one can reproduce...

Well, I think it is at least, or just what it's supposed to look like. Neither Zurreco nor Dan ever gave a very detailed description of what it was they were doing or what it looked like, so every time I got hit by the bull and get sent flying I assumed that's what happened to them with other monsters.

You guys are retarded. No joke. The Merman Skip occurs in the third stage, between 16000 and 17000 in the published smv. There is a platform that leads to stairs after riding some platforms over watever, and dan_ thought that the Merman could damage boost you to that platform without having to ride the moving platform all the way to the right. I was able to do it once, though without saving the smv, so it should be doable with lots of effort. I remember it taking me a few days of random inputs (without frame advance) to get it to work. Seriously, who assumes that the Merman boost is anything but a damage boost involving a Merman?

Ok, so when trying to remember Dan's words "merman boost" sounded like he was referring to this mega damage recoil that pirate and myself were talking about. Turns out it's not as you stated, but Dan has had this happen to him to so there must be something there if 3 different people have had a mega recoil happen in 3 different ways.

Hmm... Zurreco, that seems to be the same thing I did using the bat, indeed. I tried again researching that knockback stuff... messed with various memory addresses, like invulnerability timers of Richter and the enemies, but still no positive results. By the way, I impoved the Knight boss fight, and stage 4 is going fine.

Hey, almost there! I reached Dracula already. Now I'm testing what's better: Axe or Cross. Axe does more damage, but the Itemcrash is useless. Cross is easiser to use, but does the same damage as the whip. Itemcrash does more damage than a hit with the Axe. I'll submit it soon. Stay tuned. By the way... in the published run, he hits Dracula twice, but it's possible to hit 3 times... submitted! And you can hit Dracula 4 times, but not always!

I was just re-re-watching this video...does the "bat spread" fired at the end of the second boss do damage? If so, that'd be an opportunity to speed up the bonus tally screen by a handful of frames. Edit: ditto with Death's scythe fling when he dies, though that might do enough damage to kill you.

Yes, the bat spread at the end does do damage. However, I think his life is cut down enough where it won't save time, since there is a set amount of time on the level cleared sequence anyways that it wouldn't save time. But it's worth trying anyways. The scythe fling, on the other hand, does NOT do damage (nor did it in Rondo of Blood).

I'm not bored at all, but I would like to try this game out too :) I'll try to find this infamous "Merman Skip" whatever it is... anyway, I'm on the first boss battle, 24 frames ahead.

Good luck with your new project, Dooty! Also, always keep recording, even if you are just playing around or practicing, so if the "Special" knockback happens to you, you can rewatch and see what's happening, so you can reproduce it.

Thank you guys. The knockback seems to be the "holy grail" to save time on this game as the level of optimization pirate_sephiroth put on this is sky high! So I'll spend a good amount of my free time to look for it (recording and saving some back ups).

Oh, yes, that's a backflip (the annoying way to travel faster in this game), but I'm looking for the "knockback" thing.

No, that's not it. It's more or less what happens when the bull that chases you right before the first boss fight hits you. pirate_sephiroth and others said it is possible to use "normal" enemies to achieve the same result, and that's what I'm trying to do.

it is possible to manipulate the enemy doing the bull you have to wait for him to get close to you and he'll beat the time he hits you you go further. the other example you expect the knight he came running and look good in so far as it will hit you so you go further. isso é possivel fazer fazendo manipulando o inimigo o touro você tem que esperar ele chegar perto de você e ele vai te bater na hora que ele te acerta você vai mais longe. os outros exemplo o cavaleiro você espera ele vim correndo e ficar bem na parte em que ele vai te acertar assim você vai mais longe.
