Use your browser for this for now (e.g. use uMatrix for Chrome or Firefox or Policeman for Firefox)

Can the site and forum search please use google results? Currently when I search for things, it rarely displays relevant topics/movies. I'm not sure how hard it is to use google results, but other sites sometimes do that.

Does filtering by Forum not help? I think this is the main cause of the problem: () Search topic title and message text () Search message text only There's no option for 'Search topic title only', because phpBB sucks /s

What about encode requests? I have some encodes I want made but I don't want to submit them. I also don't like going into popular topics just for an encode. So does an encode request area sound nice?

Short answer: No. Long answer: I don't see the need for such an area. Encodes are done when the encoder has the spare time to do one. Not to mention that constantly asking for encodes (be it in such an area (which, as I mentioned, I don't see the need for) on in the game/submission thread) isn't exactly the best idea (there has been at least one precedent). Just be patient, someone will eventually make one.

I don't know if this belongs here but I was wondering, why can some people have multiple avatars? If you aren't sure what I mean, just look at posts by Spikestuff or Samsara. They can both switch their avatars per post and tend to use them to fit the posts tone/mood. Is this related to them having ranks or am I just missing some option in my user menu? If it's related to ranks.....why not allow everyone to use this option? It's really awesome and it seems kind of pointless to keep it from the average user. It would be nice to be able to spice up our posts and would make for a more enjoyable and personal experience when posting on the forum. I personally feel that when things are only available to people with special ranks, it unnecessarily divides users into some kind of dumb class system. All I'm trying to say is, I'm sure a lot of users would enjoy using multiple avatars, so why keep it from us? (Again, sorry if I'm just a dummy and this is actually a feature normal users can use).

Here's the answer to your question, Weegeechan: http://tasvideos.org/MoodAvatars.html Edit: Well, the "how it's done" part. The "why it's locked behind posts" part I don't have an answer to, but I suspect it's because users that stick around for a bit are less likely to, say, change all of their avatars to something inappropriate.

You have to earn it! We still sometimes have a low amount of feedback in the discussion topics of submissions. So, be active in the forums to be able to use cool features!

Choose an image host that doesn't disallow hotlinking. I replaced your latest avatar because it turned into a large banner advertising the site you were trying to hotlink from.

It wasn't a Liu Kang mugshot. It was a really wide banner due to the site's hotlink prevention

I think an option to filter the movies pages by the movie length would be great. It could filter the movies to match a certain length range.

From what I hear, Discourse is... not good. It looks shiny, but it requires far more hardware and headache to get running than you might expect, especially if you want to customize things as TASvideos likely will. Its management could stand more than a few lessons in customer relations, such as not banning people for reporting bugs. Admittedly TDWTF forums are full of self-admitted trolls, but still, that's a bit extreme. Drama aside, I will say that if you do not like infiniscroll, then Discourse is definitely not for you.

Almost 100% of YouTube videos use a 16:9 aspect ratio. Would it be possible to have the forum's video tag default to a resolution using that aspect ratio?

Anything that's from one of the games that's emulated and TASed on this site has a 99% chance of not being 16:9. 4:3 seems like a more reasonable default; of course, it can't cover everything.

It would be really nice to be able to add the own Discord name in the forum profile, beside the PM button and stuff. Can you please implement this?
my personal page - my YouTube channel - my GitHub - my Discord: thunderaxe31 <Masterjun> if you look at the "NES" in a weird angle, it actually clearly says "GBA"

Some ideas and suggestions with relatively minor changes. Current frontpage for reference: https://imgur.com/jxXHPXx Frontpage sections (featured movie, news, latest pubs etc) - Other sections should also have a prefix icon like Vault. (making them visually on the same level/value). Movie page: - Movies by category tab are ordered by internal IDs. Could be a combination of "number of movies" and "tag category" (1p in multi games 2p 3p 4p 5p). - Search tab. As far as I see, it uses the default search parameters (1st time) for looking after a game name. Not sure about it's usefulness in that particular page in it's current state. - Special categories next to Movies by category tab? - Movie publications by system: NES has "stars moons" and "vault". This started me to think about having all 3 links for each platforms. Not suggesting just saying. Consider about possible performance impact in case they aren't that static. Game resources page: - That's where I imagine the place for Mothrayas' + feos' game based navigation. Similarly like the movie page, having sections / links for your goals (reading game resouces or finding information of a particular game). Articles: - Is it really necessary for the Movie Watching and Movie making be unified under a tab (instead of adding them to the main tabs seperately)? Emulators: - I would love if I could click on a platform listed for BizHawk to get general information of the core. The problem is there isn't much detailed informations. I'm mostly refer to settings vital for TASing these cores and understanding settings to don't fuck with them.

I agree with this. The rest need pondering.
Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

In the rise of accessibility awareness, can we switch away from a captcha system that requires one to distinguish between red and green to something more colorblind friendly? Thank you.
[16:36:31] <Mothrayas> I have to say this argument about robot drug usage is a lot more fun than whatever else we have been doing in the past two+ hours
[16:08:10] <BenLubar> a TAS is just the limit of a segmented speedrun as the segment length approaches zero

While I personally as a colorblind person don't have an issue with it, it can definitely cause problems for others who's colorblindness works differently

Hi, I know I'm as new as it gets here, but I've been in speedrunning for a long time and have worked in accessibility for games. I'd just like to add my support for this idea, as colorblindness is common. This could discourage new users from the start and forcing them to contact an admin when having difficulties in this situation is far from welcoming and could even push new users away from your hobby. https://imgur.com/a/CeOQ7 The above link is an imgur gallery showing a screenshot of one of the captchas the current system generated with simulations of the main 3 forms of colorblindness over them. How the differences in the colors fades away should be apparent. Yes, there is still some slight visible differences, but it is important to note that these screenshots are a simulation and actual colorblindness can vary largely from these for each person, even barring other disabilities in vision compounding the issue. Switching to other colors would help, especially if limited to just two choices such as orange(FFD55E32) and light blue(FF56B4E9) but I would suggest choosing an alternative that doesn't rely on color if possible.

Welcome! It's great to see you here. Thanks for that image link. You're right, it's impossible to tell the different options apart in those examples, and I believe them to be realistic. Maybe it's time to make the "I agree to these terms" link a checkbox, merge the agreement terms into the same page as the registration information (stay with me here Nach), and have a couple randomly selected multiple choice questions that require knowledge found in the agreement terms. Easy questions, but questions that show a human actually read the agreement. There's a fantastic article on Ars Technica at https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2018/03/how-a-norwegian-comment-section-turned-chaos-into-order-with-a-simple-quiz/ that gives a great argument for this approach. One other note of my own on signing up - right now, a new user to the site can't actually find a "sign up" button anywhere obvious. The welcome page even goes so far as to say "You are invited to join the hundreds of players, thousands registered users... or even make movies yourself." but has no information on how to do so. Clicking on Login is equally unhelpful as it just says "If you have registered at the TASvideos discussion forum, you can log in here with your forum username and password." but the only link there goes to the main forum page (http://tasvideos.org/forum/) instead of the link to register an account, although this one *may* be excusable because it seems like there's a session ID that gets appended to the end of tasvideos.org/foru...p?mode=register (in here as an invalid link just in case it causes problems). Anyway halfcoordinated, thanks for putting some more awareness around this and for being an advocate. The site will be better with you around.

One quick thing, be careful on how difficult these questions could be to a non-native English speaker. Plenty of people on these forums are not exactly proficient in English.

Thanks for your feedback! This is true, which is why the agreement is currently translated into a couple of different languages. It would be nice to translate a few more but this would require volunteers to do that. Perhaps someone can spearhead that. (It probably shouldn't be me, my hands are a bit full already with GDQ prep and I'm trying to stay balanced / not over-commit.) Having said that, they don't have to be complex questions at all - "Are you allowed to post abusive material?" [Yes/No] or "This forum system uses:" [Crackers, Bisqwits, Cookies, None of the above] or even utterly unrelated questions that are easy to answer like "What number comes after three?" [4, East, Dennis, Cake] I'm not saying the questions are guaranteed to be trivial, but they should be intelligible. I used Google Translate to put the question "Are you allowed to post abusive material?" into Albanian -> Spanish -> Danish -> Portuguese -> Polish -> English and what came out the other side was "Can you send abuse?" which I think is good enough to pass the languages barrier concern. Thoughts?
