Preliminary notes for the PSP version of Final Fantasy
This version (and I presume versions since the WonderSwan?) requires talking to the king first to access Garland. Thanks for nothing, TOSE.
Random encounters can be skipped by delaying movement on the map for a few frames.
Some enemies and bosses now have rare drops
Stats to pay attention to
Strength's effect on the Attack stat: Strength/2
Agility affects turn order in this version, and any agility earned through level up increases evasion.
Intelligence scales magic power per 10 Intelligence points.
Equipment notes
The PSP has an exclusive equipment glitch that allows access to end game and post game equipment way earlier than intended. This guide has an explanation of the glitch and details on what transmutes to what: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/psp/937909-final-fantasy/faqs/50991
The most important early game equipment to glitch is the Leather Cap -> Judgment Staff as it gives access to Flare before Garland and saves time against multiple major encounters!
Possible later equipment
- Wyrmkiller -> Red Jacket for +5 Strength, +2 Agility, and +1 Intelligence per Red Jacket equipped. Max without risking crashes with the shield slot: +15 Strength, +6 Aglility, and +3 Intelligence
- Protect Cloak -> Excalibur, earliest possible in Flying Fortress
Likely candidate for main character to use: Red Mage or Black Mage for the intelligence stat, but leaning towards Red Mage for the better hit% growth.
Other party members needed for the equipment glitch can be another Red Mage or a Warrior for wider equipment access without needing to class change.
