nymx: My analysis process always starts the same way: I watch the entire run from start to finish. Then I compare it to a speedrun so I don’t get blindsided by any tricks that humans typically use. I’ll admit, I was a bit thrown off at first when I noticed some sections where the WR run appeared faster—until I remembered we’re looking at “Easy” vs. “Hard.”
Even then, I wasn’t sure why certain actions performed in this TAS weren’t being done in the WR run. A good example is the collection of notes that later get deposited elsewhere. After digging into it, I learned this is part of the puzzle-solving required in the harder difficulty.
After adjusting for RTA timing, about 14 seconds can be trimmed from this TAS when comparing it against a human run. So even accounting for “Easy” mode, we’re looking at a 23:43.428 versus the WR’s 23:51—a time that still beats all known records.
