Intro

Super Fighter Special Edition is a remastered version of the game Super Fighter, also known as Fatal Encounter for PC. The original version of the game was designed for DOS, but this version was designed for Windows, and was created in the MUGEN engine. It features some new improvements like better physics and even a super bar, which functions the same as it does in Super Street Fighter II Turbo, and many other fighting games.

Goals

  • Beat the game as fast as possible (this is done by doing cutscene skips by pressing A and Z, sometimes the Enter/Return key as well, along with beating other fighters as fast as possible).
  • Make the run somewhat entertaining by doing random things during fights.

Levels

It's a fighting game, nothing too special about levels here, but each level has a more difficult fighter.

Framework used

  • Hourglass r81 was used.
    • It was also done on an actual Windows XP machine (an IBM ThinkPad X40 from 2004)

Other notes

This run can possibly be improved by doing other moves that don't waste as much frames, but I wasted frames for entertainment (which can make runs better). The game can also desync if you fast-forward, doesn't matter where or how long you do it, it will straight up desync, so yeah, don't fast-forward. Also, if you start the game without Hourglass, it will go fullscreen, but with Hourglass, for me, it doesn't go fullscreen, so I'm guessing that will happen on other people trying to play the movie file as well. But that's essentially all I have to say for this.

Special thanks

Special thanks to eien86 for his run of the DOS version of Super Fighter!

nymx: Claiming for judging.
nymx: When I first watched this TAS, I expected it to be more straightforward. However, I’m not familiar enough with the game to know whether certain sections require additional time for manipulation or setup. I attempted to compare it with [6832] DOS Super Fighter by eien86 in 14:42.268 and noticed several shared strategies, though the two games function quite differently from one another.
I then looked for a human-run comparison but couldn’t find one—even after trying to use an AI engine to assist with the search.
Given that, my overall impression is that the run appears fast and acceptable. Without a clear benchmark for comparison, I don’t feel it’s appropriate to invoke the rule that a submission must “beat all known records.”
As for entertainment value, I find that somewhat secondary here, especially since the stated objective was simply to complete the game as quickly as possible.
I also considered the comments from eien86, and they did influence my perspective to some extent. That said, I recognize him as a seasoned and highly experienced fighting game player, so it’s only natural that he would point out technical details and potential optimizations.
Accepting to "Standard".
