Varth: Operation Thunderstorm is a veritcal shoot-em-up arcade game developed by Capcom in 1992. DELTA-7 supercomputer system got possessed by a mysterious evil spirit called DUO, and manipulated humans in the planet Varth to destroy each other, thus starting a war. The survivors managed to repair two planes that were still operable as those planes use the old generation computer system and cannot be controlled by manipulated DELTA-7.

The gameplay is similar to Capcom's 194X series of games, with the major difference being the inclusion of "pods", which will follow the player and carry the weaponry to aid the player. The game offers two pod formation modes - smart and fixed mode. The former will react to the enemy's bullets from any side automatically, while the latter provides absolute defense against enemy bullets in front of the pods.
