Effective today, I have removed Phil's privileges such as editing / judging from this site. It is because prolonged arguments that I, among many other people, have had with him. The discussion I had with him, ending in goodbyes, was not bitter, but the end result was not surprising. The precise problem for why Phil is ejected, is because he is completely uninterested of how his words are interpreted by others. He thinks, or as indicated by his behavior, seems to think, that if someone misunderstands him, it is their own fault. He did not explicitly agree with this, but he did not disagree with it either, indicating that he did not care whether my analysis was correct. Also, he was not forcefully ejected. His leaving has been clinging on a fragile balance for a long time. Phil has on multiple occasions said that when he leaves, he will create his own website for tool-assisted movies. So perhaps it will happen. As for why did I need to remove those privileges -- it is because of the controversial use of those privileges that some of the arguments have arose. Many of the arguments have rose because of mutual misunderstanding, but I still think it is because of Phil's indifference to other people's perceptions of his communication and actions, that it is better if he no longer is in position to cause those problems. It is sad, because Phil is one of the oldest visitors of this site (first appearing in March 13 2004), and because he has contributed many of the best movies on this site. As a token of appreciation, I granted Phil a new user rank that nobody else has. I request that nobody will post in this thread saying things like "good riddance" or other words of disrespect. It is because of Phil's problems to integrate in this community that this was done, and demonstrating your own behavior problems will not do any good. Ps: If my avatar appears as a beef, reload the page...

I hope Phil and Genisto still continue to make wonderful movies and contribute to the community. Their ability to always unexpectedly find some new way to optimise something already thought solid is amazing.
someone is out there who will like you. take off your mask so they can find you faster. I support the new Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun.

I expected this to happen eventually, but not nearly this soon. I would like to apologize for my part in why this has become necessary -- initially I made attempts to understand Phil, and wrote his attitude off to a poor command of English, but after a few discussions I just gave up.

Not unexpected. Too bad his TASing skills aren't matched by his social abilities. oh well, let any one of you who is without geekdom be the first to throw a stone at him.

Uhm personally, I would like to have the Ninja status rather than the Precursor rank. Edit: Also, I would be a huge loss if Phil would stop TASing for tasvideos but I hope he still wants to make runs for this site.

Im perfectly aware that I have neither of those ranks, Im thinking rationally. Who would prefer having Precursor as a rank rather than the Ninja status?

I'd be content jus tknowing what "Precursor" is supposed to mean. (Ninja was explained as doing something everyone thought was impossible.) I'm quite fond of my official Nesvideos vest :P

Quoting... <PhilCote> Well, what is it supposed to mean anyway? <Bisqwit> Precursor: précurseur <Bisqwit> Your movies have set standards and been a model to adhere to. You have created entertaining movies like nobody else. <Bisqwit> Instead of trying, you have been doing. As for the source of vocabulary, I was thinking of Star Control II. :)

That is far too wise and sensible for you not to have used your Guru avatar.

I'd rather have Pirate than Ninja anyday. I guess that would mean I will have to submit something... really good. :) Though Phil's attitude or otherwise did tend to irk me, I also enjoy his movies, so please keep making them!

It was always going to happen. However, Phil has made many of the greatest movies I have seen and I sincerely hope that that is what he is remembered for.

It may not affect the wave of new forum users too much, but for those who have witnessed his accomplishments for the past couple years know first hand what he has contributed here. I didn't know what to think of Phil when he first registered on this forum, but he continued to surprise me with his highly precise runs. This was at a time where authors would submit half a dozen runs before getting everything right (think of all the early SMB 1 & 2 vids). Phil's style emphasized the importance of making a solid run the first time around and not rushing to publish minor improvements. And really, who can forget the infamous "wobble" technique that was his trademark? His team-up runs with Genisto? A good TASer with conflicts that were unfortunately far from frame-perfect.

Ah, good ol' Phil, he's the John Schwartzwelder of TASVideos, formerly Nesvideos (If you don't know what I'm talking about then you're obviously not a Simpsons fan or not a big one, at that). Never felt like arguing with Phil because Phil is Phil and he never really bugged me to such an extent as to act cold (I don't really mean a thing toward anyone when I say 'act cold'). Do us all a favor: Don't quit TASing, it has always been fun watching and discussing movies with you, in general.

It looks like the community here is changing quite a lot those times... I hope Phil, alone or along with Genisto, will continue to make great TA Speedruns... I would not say that I'm sad, 'cause I did not know him well (I do not know well anyone... though...) but I think that there are still a lot of people here that make great TAS... so it may be a loss if he does not continue though it's not like the community is on the verge of sinking...

Well, whether Phil will or will not continue contributing his runs to this site, he will always be remembered as a harsh and competitive player who (along with Genisto) had actually set and maintained pretty high quality standards starting from Famtasia days and up to this moment. But yeah, this outcome was most likely inevitable due to shortage of certain social skills (and certain people reacting to it a bit too much). Doesn't make it less sad, though. On a sidenote: Phil, are you still planning to finish your Castlevania runs?
