Sorry, I don't understand it. Cool glitches are cool because they look awesome. For example, in rockman1 when the main character enters the ceiling and zips superfast all the way to the right end of the ceiling, it looks cool. It doesn't cause annoying visual glitches nor disrupts the story. While it might be confusing for the first time, it quickly stops being that and becomes cool instead. However, the murder beam glitch looks confusing no matter how many times you watch it. There's no way to understand what's going on. It's just boring. I think that's the keyword here: It's not cool, it's boring to watch.

Warp, you seriously "don't understand" how people can have differing opinions? It's a pretty easy concept mate. Just reread the two pages you wrote on the murder beam and realize that almost everything you wrote is a matter of personal preference, and we should have no more problem. Also, basing most of your argument on the fact that it looks confusing to a newcomer on a message board where this applies to no one, including yourself, is pretty weird I think. Of course, that's just an opinion, and no big deal either way.

To a newcomer? I was certainly not a newcomer when I saw the Supermetroid run with the murder beam glitch used, and it was really confusing and ugly. It was only after I saw the version where the glitch was not used when I got to understand what was really supposed to happen. Moreover, even *after* seeing the original ending I still find the glitched one ugly, boring and totally not cool. This feeling is certainly not diminished by the fact that the glitch doesn't make the run faster. IMO a glitch being "cool" can and should be logically argumented. I don't think it's too much to ask what the reason is for it being considered "cool". "It looks cool precisely because it looks ugly and confusing" just doesn't make any sense. People are entitled to their opinion, but that doesn't mean I have to agree with it nor that I can't present my arguments why I disagree.

I don't think that's why others consider it "cool". I think it's more the fact that Super Metroids game engine was successfully broken ("hacked" in its original meaning). It's so impressive because Super Metroid's engine is quite powerful, compared to many other games. And yes, it looks ugly. :-j

Considering something "cool" is subjective by definition, why the hell it should be argumented? Argumenting your opinion logically to prove its superiority just adds to the idiocy of the fact.

Donkey Kong Country 2 team-throw double jump glitch and backwards switch into walls. That's personal bias, but I still think the zipping mechanics of Megaman is pretty cool

being fiery mario and small in super mario bros. 1 is a pretty good glitch, one of my favorite. also, warping to the other side of the screen using the vine in 4-2 I enjoyed. ever gone over the wall in rush 2 for the N64 in stunt mode? it's kind of weird. in smb2 and smb3 you can walk right through the final boss' lower halfs, it's really dumb. (wart and bowser) in one of the 007 games for gamecube, you can use your "powers" the one that makes the other player dazed for a second, from accross the whole map!

Tom and Jerry has a pretty fun glitch where you fly off a couch and shoot through the top of the screen. Then the follows a random spot on the screen, not the actual character. Unfortunately, you can't touch the "exit" sign to end the level. Pokemon Red/Blue has a couple fun glitches that make pokemon materialize, which is abused to some level to catch a level 7 Gyarados in the current run, and I'm working on a run that uses a different glitch to catch a level 138 Marowak (Maximum level: 100).

Seconded, with an exception that not only PC games have (and benefit from) bhopping implemented to a certain extent.

As an avid Doom player, I can honestly say this is my favourite too. Ever since, I've found myself running at a 45 degree angle in pretty much every FPS I play.

The last boss fight in Contra 3, where they just lie down in front off the boss, completely ignoring the huge flipping things that should be crushing them. I honestly thought this place was B.S. the first time I saw that. I had to download the emulator and rom and watch it frame by frame to prove that it wasn't cheated. Still not really sure why that works.
