Ok, it's probably not from the same person who made "Air", but I thought this was pretty similar. Would this be considered acceptable fodder?

I don't think it's AIR- Style because you don't have to abuse bugs as often as in air. That was it what made AIR interesting IMHO.

Not asking for roms, but I'm curious if anyone's picked this one up yet. It screams to have a run of it done. And of course, godspeed to the brave soul that tries it.

If I actually knew what the name of the hack was, I'd look into it further.

I've just found a video of what has to be the hardest Mario hack ever made. http://www.quixoticals.com/2007/04/most-frustrating-super-mario-mod-ever.html It may take a long time to load, but at least watch the first few seconds of it to get a feel for just how crazy it is. The only problem is it doesn't list where to get a copy of it. I'm sure there's a number of other people that would love to see a play of this, as it looks like mario must be a ninja to survive... First second of the game you have to jump, start running, hit the block above you, jump again, clear a gap that rivals the widest gaps in world 8, then jump again, stomp a squid, and finally land in the single block width hole there is for you...

I think it only goes up to part of 1-2 then stops. So it wouldn't be too intresting.

The video flashes the title screen for a frame or two, but there's no text changed, so that's a no-go. I spent a while searching--seems everybody's talking about the video right now, but nobody has the file. :( Keep your eyes peeled!!

the video is located in china, on a very distant and slow server. it took me several hours to let the download finish. I suggest you try getting this outside china's peek hours (read : local evening). the player is rather good and incredibly patient, but some screw-ups tend to get old after a while. this is interesting and has TAS potential. I'd watch a TAS of it.

I really fail to understand how anyone is able to view this... I mean it only goes to 7.63 on the clock and stops and shows a screen with 3 options to click on. What REALLY pisses me off, is another video from same said site played FLAWLESSLY first time I clicked on the play button... and went all the way. The kicker to me? Every freaking person links to the video on that site and no one is kind enough to actually mirror the damned thing! .......... I really want to see this... Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

And still not as hard as Air.

Ah, my friend sent me this link a few days ago. I don't have Flash installed, so I had to ask him to resolve the link for me so I could watch it: http://hot.tudou.com/flv/005/296/053/5296053.flv According to Google translation, it is called Mario Metamorphosis. That link would also work if someone wanted to mirror it. I agree that it does not appear to be AIR style, just hard.

I, too, can't bear to watch more than 10 seconds of this miserable attempt at a hack... was the runner on crack?

Strange, I watched it from beginning to end. (Though I about 20% of the second half.) It was mostly funny and interesting.

No, I watched it on some chinese site. Don't remember which. It was not this: http://www.quixoticals.com/2007/04/most-frustrating-super-mario-mod-ever.html -- this is not chinese.

Both the links on both the threads have worked for me, and I watched it all the way through, although near the end it got repetitive. I don't think it would make a very good TAS though, because as the runner showed it can be done once you know all the secret run stoppers, which a TAS would skip. BTW, can we get these two threads merged? I don't see the point on having two for the exact same movie for an impossible to find hack that probably wouldn't be acceptable on this site anyway :-P

My friend sent it to me because he found it funny too. I didn't particularly find it funny. It didn't look like the player was on crack either. It looked like someone playing normally who was seeing the maps for the first time. Whenever I am playing something new and difficult, I usually end up doing about the same thing. Get a little bit further each time and die, memorizing the details of the map so I can get further next time. (For general playability, I consider HAVING to memorize the map a bad thing.) Considering the difficulty, I think that he did pretty well on 1-1. I'm surprised that in 1-2 he didn't let the lift push him through the wall each time and instead tried to fall, getting killed by the fire bar several more times.

Just an extra little thing, there's a mirror on google video with a pretty amusing voice over. Rather alot of swearing, so just a warning for that. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6204903272262158881

HAHAHAHAHAHA! Wow! I saved the video. It's funny when someone else is that angry. And at the same time you get a lesson in design!

double-clicking on this embedded flash will also bring you to the same chinese site (tudou.com). both topics point to the same site. now on to find the hack...

k... I am so unimpressed with this... I seriously don't know why people went so mental!! I mean heck... did anyone see that one part where he actually could break the brick ceiling? And the fact there's a hole above the flag? HELLO! McFly!!! Yeesh. Thanks though for the Google link. At least the guy was funny. Mr. Kelly R. Flewin

I'm willing to bet there's an invisible coin block above the block he broke. I find it hard to believe there'd be such a massive oversight when all the rest of the design is so deliberately sadistic.
