Hey cool stuff. I like the game references in the songs, I think it adds a unique and personal style. Music is also a big hobby of mine, so I have to ask: What software/gear did you you use to produce this?

Hardware: I record with a Shure microphone interfaced through a Sound Blaster Audigy card. Software: I use Fruityloops and a couple sample packs for beat sequencing. I record my vocals in Goldwave, and mix/master them in Acid. Thanks for giving it a listen :)

Rappers who have talent are never commercialized. Because rappers with talent sound different from what the record companies know will sell. And record companies don't take many risks like that these days.

I agree, and I feel this can be applied to all genres of music. It is my opinion that a lot of the music we hear on the radio today is made by formula. Add some lyrics about some of the following: drinking/partying/sex -- it can be in any order -- apply serious amounts of Autotuning to correct for lack of talent, compress the hell out of a track to remove all dynamics, and then normalize to 0db to blow out car stereos. I rest my case

Just remembered this one: Girl got a ass as round and fat as Dr. Robotnik Auto-tuning...wow. Not that I can really speak down on that, since I use re-records every time I mess up when recording :)

Well in general autotuning is not a bad idea. If you have the tools to polish a vocal track why not do it; a little bit of this effect goes a long way. Also sometimes using this effect to the extreme can result in interesting and creative musical results. See Cher's song Believe for a perfect example of this. But I don't think using re-records is really like "musicians" using or depending on this effect. When you make a TAS, the idea (in my opinion) is to show off your ability to find the fastest/most entertaining way of completing a game, not to trick your audience into thinking you are actually that good at the game. I think the same logic can be applied to this. Now for really good (again my opinion) tool-assisted music check out aphex twin, autechre, or venetian snares. Ah, this is getting way off topic of the thread, but it's my 2 cents. To get back on topic, did you ever try other sequencers such as Live or Cubase? I remember trying FL Studio for a while, then I started to try Live and instantly fell in love with it. For some reason I feel like the VST support in Live is a little easier then FL. Also I like that mic you are working with. It's got good bang for the buck.

I must applaud you JXQ. I am a fellow Fruity Loops user. I've been using it since version 1.76 and I don't make shit half this good! Mostly I just write beats and silly ass stuff. I've recently gotten into making mashups (remixes) and learning to scratch with the FL Scratcher. Who needs turntables and a mixer as long as you've got an "m" key and a mouse? Along with the excellent production you had a really nice flow. Its definitely something i can dig on.

First, thanks for your comments! Second, I also got myself a sample pack a while ago, which is really what makes or breaks how stuff can sound in a sequencing program like this. Although, each new version of FL seems to come with more and more samples. I'm finally getting to the point where I don't make too many beats because I've run out of samples to use, and I've been too lazy/frugal to go get some more. Some day though!

That song is pretty cool. Real nice lyrics, and cool instruments. The only thing I don't like is the sped-up choir on the hook, but I've never been a fan of that chipmunk stuff.

:) you can always use the handy beat slicer and rearrange someone else's beats. I find the beat slicer to be very handy when I want a particular sound from the percussion that may have been used in a another song. I just love how much shit you can do with fruity loops and all those wonderful plugins and features.

adelikat has produced a remix to As I Write, which can be found on the My Voice album page. The drums have been redone and guitar and bass were both added by adelikat. He also remastered the entire track (he knows a bit more about this than I do). I wrote and recorded a third verse. I would like to thank adelikat very much. This project meant a lot to me and I'm honored that you wanted to work on this. And thanks for dealing with converting all the files from the stuff I use to the stuff you use. :)

i must say, jxq, your stuff is amazing. i still listen to my voice, and, as i reflect upon it now, there seems to be more... character [i think it is the correct word for what i am trying to convey :/]... than kanye west's new album (one that i enjoy in small doses [mainly for the daft punk song XD]), which is heralded as one of the great albums of 2007 (i think)... and it goes without saying that my voice tops 50's new album... then again, barney's theme song tops that cd >_> long post short: you spit with, and above, the greatest of our time! b ^_^ d EDIT: nice remix adelikat and jxq ;) likin the lyrics and beat... they complement each other well

Wow, thanks man! That's quite a compliment :) (I don't like Kanye West's music too much, personally, but I know many people do) Lol Barney's theme song ft Fiddy: I love you! (...like a fat kid love cake) <3

omg 2pac lives!!!~! Listen close, as life turns its pages Makaveli here, kickin' rhymes for the ages Seen things on stages, wise words spoken by sages From SkyTel to BlackBerry pagers Your crew don't phase us, we'll make you bustas pay us Run up in your spot like CJ from San Andreas ... I wrote this song a long time ago A real long time ago Feel me!!! I wrote this song a long time ago It was the dopest song I ever wrote... in '94!! Oh yeah, the, uh topic. I read your lyrics when you posted this thread (a year ago?), and I was impressed from a lyrical standpoint; today it's not so often you find multisyllabic rhymes in amateur raps. Also, these new beats sounded very nice. FL Studio works good if you're into experimenting with instrumentals.

thank god you registered, 2pac, because i was afraid you were dead and i would never be able to hear any more remixes of old music ever again... jxq: you retire. now. 2pac is officially back. and he is a better rapper than you. just think about how much new material he has released, each cd better than the last, and all about bitches, hos, and 1996 2007. Good remix of a good song. The drums and the electric guitar playing was nice (were they both played by adelikat or were they in any way computer made?). I'm adding this to my playlist, good job. :)

Here are some new links to music that I've done. Myself - album finished in 2008, available at CDBaby. New site - I will be putting more free tracks here pretty soon (and on a more consistent basis), and discussing things about music that interest me, and hopefully help or inform others who are interested in similar things. If you're interested, check the links out. Apparently there is an RSS feed that came with the software, but I have no idea how to use one of those. So I don't know if it works or not! (I don't have My Voice hosted online anymore, so I removed the link. I also changed the name of this thread and updated the first post with this same information) I hope everyone's doing well here.

Glad to see that you are apparently doing well! I look forward to checking out your new CD, it will just take some time due to me being at school at this very instant... but if it is anything like your two other CDs, it will be well worth the wait!
