AKA's comments...

Initially, the target was to break 15 mins, since the previous run had 12-13 seconds of known improvements, which would've taken it nicely below 15 minutes. Although with a little bit of messing around in the basement on a N64, and tossing away all the tiring and obvious lines of enquiry in the past, I began to get suspicious of possible BLJ locations, as I managed to get 3-4 BLJs in a row on a console, which made me want to fully TAS it, although it was not done on the one seen in the finished run as it later turned out to be impossible to gain any sort of infinite speed. In total, there are 5 BLJ locations in the basement, with another one or two locations being entirley unconfirmed. It seems that a banister, unlike an outer wall, is able to hold Mario and stop him sliding out of the BLJ location, which is why the previously mentioned ones don't work. Sadly, for the time being, DDD is not skippable, so there is no 0 star run. It's a shame that this makes the 16 star catagory obselete, since it wasn't quite perfected yet.

Swordless Link's comments...

I had just came back from a holiday to find all the hype about new BLJ locations in the basement. Needless to say, I was keen to investigate these, as it meant a possible 1 or 0 star TAS. When I found out about them, I checked the TAS forums, and found that AKA had found something that might have been useful, so I contacted him about it and was informed that he was unable to gain enough speed to break the door. I suggested that we find a way to get Mario stuck against the banister, so AKA and I experimented with the stairs and eventually came to the conclusion that holding the analogue stick in the general direction of the nearby key door meant that Mario would not leave the BLJ area until he had a significantly higher amount of speed than in AKA's initial attempt, which happened to be enough to break the door. I'm satisfied with the final time of the run, after all, it is the first of its kind, but even then I feel that it's very optimal.

People we want to thank...

Rikku: For the DDD and BitS timesavers.
mr_roberts_z: For the idea of long jumping after performing the stair glitch in the room beyond the second keydoor.

About the glitch...

Riddle me this It liek at the corner of the basement but next to the slope that slopes down to the water, I was facing sideways and I went in the ledge was just above the rim and started bljing like mad,
unfortunatley I've never done it again and I can't record nor upload any screenshots, but the descriptions there so anyone can do what I just did.

Fine, here; skipping the entire game without much fanfare or interesting bits (i.e. look at me, I'm in A, now I'm magically at B, whoopee) is boring and uninteresting. Hence, I hated this movie and voted it accordingly.
I know what you're trying to say but you must have known what you were about to watch before you saw it, getting from point A to point B is usually a big deal in certain circumstances like this. I would also say the Bowser stages are the most interesting parts of the game anyway.

I don't mean to noob it up here, but is there a wiki anywhere with definitions of the acronyms used in tasing this game? I don't know what a BLJ is (backwards long jump?) or a LLL..

I was hoping for more "holy shit my pants are on fire". Other glitched-like-this games usually tend to at least have some sequence where actual things are skipped, as opposed to "whoopee teleporting from A to B instantly". That, and if I was to ignore every submission I figured would be boring, and everyone else did, almost all (techincally good) movies would be accepted, even if they were something like Jaws. (No offense to adelikat, but that run was utterly boring and I still think simply un-publishing it forever would've been better)

LLL should be Lethal Lava Land.

It's not really teleporting from A to B in the way that you're describing it... the Yoshi's Island glitched warp run is more accurate with those words. what's happened here is a gradual reduction of the lowest amount of stars that is possible to beat the game (from 70 to 16 to now 1, and hopefully now 0), which has taken years of experimenting, testing, and theorizing to finally become a reality, which many people have been wanting to see for ages. You're not warping, but surpassing violations of the game in a still fast paced way (because of the game's Mario-ninja style of movement.) Teleporting (what you're describing as warping) would be if you entered the final fight right at the start no questions asked, like through a wormhole and immediately arrive at point B (to me, this run goes faster than the speed of light to reach it's destination and does the occasional dimensional jaunt to get past a physical barrier.) Glitches are utilized to the extreme to pass by *3* separate places that the designers tried to make unpassable, which took years to find, master, and incorporate correctly (rather than, say, YI where simply doing left+right at the menu brings to the last stage, woopee.) There is still plenty of acrobatics in the run, in the bowser stages and the bowser fights, as AKA pointed out are the most interesting parts of the game. Finally, about ignoring submissions; I ignore some I think I'd find uninteresting. why waste minutes/hours of my life? However, I make sure to watch submissions all I'm anticipating or ones that I'm very curious about, and I also try to watch submissions of which I don't know the result as well, in the likely event that I am very surprised by the result. (I have had the best of both worlds; I have been bored to tears and entertained beyond belief by watching submissions I knew nothing about.) I think you get the best of of this site if you do it that way, rather than convince yourself ahead of time that you're not going to enjoy it.

This run is awesome! Admittedly it was a bit short and not as entertaining as the 120-star runs, but with one star it's hard to see how it could be done better! Yes vote most definitely.

I want to rate it 7 for entertainment, 10 for technical, 9 for surprise and 10 for serving the community. But I can only vote on entertainment and technical so I'll up the entertainment by 1 point. It's ok to not like the movie, "liking" is a personal thing.

Okay, I checked youtube and found a total of 3 copies of this video up. One by me (see page 2 of this thread), one by AKA and one by swordlesslink. And that doesn't count the ones that were erased. Seriously...

I uploaded one yesterday right after me and AKA put this on the site. Within a few hours, it had about 120 comments and had been favourited nearly 100 times. I removed it today to replace it with DeHackEd's considerably-better-quality AVI.

Link's Awakening GB is an entertaining game-skip; the game bugs out severely and sprites are flying everywhere and the screen corrupts. Zelda II features more of the same. The screen does not update fast enough and utterly strange things happen to skip the game (entering the "same" door over and over again). Excitebike, as well. Speeds that are not normally possible (as M64 without BLJ) are attained and the game runs too fast for its own good. In Mario 64, Mario jumps into a corner over and over and suddenly reappears somehwere else, with maybe two frames between. It is not entertaining for me to watch. I watched this movie hoping it would feature more "high speed, but not to the point of being invisible" movement moments. All I saw were tricks from the 120-star TAS repeated, just in different areas and at faster speeds. To me, this is, as said, nothing but a "whee, we got the timer under whatever" movie. There is very little of entertainment interest other than finding the game beaten with one star. Although, admittedly, I am always amused that my opinion -- representing 0% of the voting population here at Nesvideos -- can stir up so much distress and questioning.

Holy crap, that's awesome. You broke this game. Time to move on to another. :) Edit: Xkeeper, you seem so angry. Why not just say "Not my cup of tea, nice effort though"?

I somewhat agree with Xkeeper, actually. Strange physics abuse is interesting, but non-physics abuse isn't so much. Compare, say, bomb-jumping to edge-walking on Ocarina of Time. One occurs because the game is designed in a fairly open-ended engine; the other occurs because of a bug brought on by lazy design. Also, the only star is in Dire Dire Docks? That's the most annoying level to watch, because your movement speed is totally limited. I would rather watch the previous, 16-star run.

You should probably read this. So what if I played the game before? Does it automatically disqualify me from presenting an opinion on it? I find the movie entertaining to watch. (There are other games that I have not played that I found enjoyable, by the way, if you are trying to inflict some sort of bias that isn't there in my statement, so your argument further fails.)

One will obviously be biased in favour of games they know well, and I think that's what happened here. I honestly think this video is more of a novelty than a really entertaining video. I mean, honestly, guys. Most people I know find the Bowser levels the LEAST fun. This video skips ALL of the meat and gravy that we all loved about this game, and leaves nothing but the mundane, plain parts. I'm regretting my knee-jerk yes vote. I don't think it deserves it, by pure virtue that I just didn't find it too entertaining. There were some "heh, cool" parts, but compared to the other runs? Dull. It's nothing against Swordless Link and AKA; there's no one who could make this cool without glitching it so badly beyond belief that it's not even recognizable.
