I for one am greatly in favour of making a bljless run. I find the biggest problem with the 120-star run is the really slow stars in it, which a 70-star would eliminate. Also, the BLJ glitch is way overused anyway.

I would bet anything that this run ends up significantly more entertaining then the 120 star run, if only because of the number of slow, boring stars that can be skipped. Also, its kinda of irritating hearing people say how arbitrary this is, seeing as how this is far from the first time that a run has been made excluding some particular glitch. Hell, some of them even have a star now.

I'd prefer a CCCless run to a BLJless run though, and I'm surem any others wil agree.

CCC-less has already been made, and was rejected.

Wouldn't a BLJ-less run be a 16-star run? You'd have to ban mips abuse to keep it 70. Then that would be a "nonBLJ/mips" run, which is getting much more arbitrary. Of course if you're up for a bit of a challenge you can make it completely glitchless. Less arbitrary but then it'll look mostly like the good old 120 star run. Do you really think it can deviate from the current 120 run to be entertaining? Thats the real question.

You can't make it up the 50-star or endless stairs without BLJ.

You can't get past 50 star door or Bowser 3 staircase without BLJ.

C-C-C-COMBO! :( I may have forgotten about that mere technicality. Never Mind. But still, as I said it would have to vary from the 120 star run enough to be interesting.

any future 120-star run will have much more BLJ's than before, including Bowser 1, and running around BoB with it when collecting red coins and such. it might also be faster to BLJ on the stairs that let you into DDD/bowser2 area just to get to LLL rather than running down the corridors... I wouldn't be surprised if the lower area CCM BLJ spot found a use in a future 120-star as well. Also the more boring stars are removed, and more route planning is invovled. I do believe a BLJ-less run has its place on this site.

I bet it will be right around half the time of the 120 star run, seeing as how 49 of the stars skipped will be the slowest ones in the game.

I haven't been keeping up, but I take it BLJ is when Mario does that thing that allows him to fly around levels backwards and get through doors?

To be more specific than "Yes," BLJ is an acronym for Backwards Long Jump. Every time Mario does a long jump, the game adds to his velocity--and so by aiming the long jump backwards, up a hill or otherwise against a wall that prevents Mario from really moving in between button presses, the player can press the jump button rapidly to accumulate velocity, which gets Mario's speed so high he clips through collision checks! :)

Which, if you can hold it long enough, will cause a 0 star run. (The basement BLJ spot.)

I figured as much. It's really interesting to watch it being used more and more in upcoming videos, which would make sense to improve times.

Ohh, progress. Everything looks real tight, and I see you've even put some new tricks to use, even beating Rikku at some spots, eh? ;) Just so you know, I'm 100% behind this run and the idea. Looking forward to more on this run. :)

Awesome run, so far i'd say it's more entertaining than the glitch runs, possibly because i've seen too many of those runs :p Anyways, keep up the nice work!

Great stuff Mr R_Z. It's excellent that you could still make it look new and refreshing even after it's been TASed so many times. I also couldn't see anything that looked improvable.

The BLJ. The. Best. Glitch. Ever. Imagine if every game had that glitch, imagine Link, Samus, or any other Nintendo characture Yahoo-ing themselves to the end of the level. It's fun to think about. (Dash Rendar: "Yahoo, yahoo, yah,yah,yah-" *flip to last battle) :)

This and the Megaman zipping. For some reason the "ridiculous speed" glitches are the best.
