I don't mean to jump into this, but lately I've seen Saturn's posts been rather offensive towards moozooh in different places... You know, kinda pushing him again and again to find those missing frames, while moozooh on the other hand isn't showing much interest in raising the clock by a few 1/100 seconds. (sorry dunno how to say it in english)

Fractions or decimals… Either would suffice, I think.

That is an understatement. I am surprised that there is enough room in this thread for all the ego being shoved around.

Yeah, I know. I just pointed out that your contribution eventually can be of use to the community. It's up to you of course whether you think it's worth it.

If I start rambling about how you know so much (definitely not less than me) about Super Metroid and yet didn't beat my times on Zebes, would you start doing that until you have fully succeeded? I don't think so, as you have other things to do beside accepting silly challenges. And so do I.
I see. You are wrong about me beating your times in Zebes though. The only reason I didn't do so in my old run is because of the new jumps and a few missed subpixel optimizations (I wasn't that accurate before as I am now) that were discovered later (of course the Torizo skip too). You know that my run is pretty old already, so comparing to it with actual conditions is unsuitable. If I were about to start a new run yet, I would beat the currently existing Zebes best-time until green Brinstar you were majorly involved in without problems (I wouldn't say that if I weren't 100% sure). But you are right, it's not worth to do that due to other projects I have.

My security, in fact, lets me not concern myself with anything I don't want to do at the moment (Ceres, for example) in the least, until I run out of better things to do and am fully up for it. What makes you keep on pestering me about optimizing Ceres does look like an insecurity, though, because you just won't let it go. I'm not bothered by personal achievements and persons behind them; you are.
Nope, I was just wondering because of your actions around Ceres. Maybe a misinterpretation from my side. In that case I'm sorry.

This is indeed a imputation. Why would I need to do that when I found the missing 2 frames myself already? And of course moozooh is interested to raise the clock as much as possible, otherwise he wouldn't try to lower the in-game time by single frames as well, would he?

Not if I wasn't about to submit that run someday. :-)

Just wondering, has anybody got 49'12 beside Saturn (which I don't really believe he got)? Also, what would the most entertaining TAS be?

Fano, the most entertaining TAS by far would be Frontline, be sure to check that out. And I'd change your signature... only the senior members who have a badass attitude get to directly attack other members in their signature and get away with it.

About the 49'12 I've just tried hex editing some frames into the intro to manipulate all the steam and the ceres door and ridley(1), after going though 189 frames of stalling the intro. I've not been able to get to the elevator, I did manage to get really really close once, but I got hit by a steam in the elevator room (1) If the Ridley fight were to be changed to not have anything that can be affected by randomness (such as damage boosting) then the odds of desync would be much lesser

Well then I can't help you there because I no longer find SM to be entertaining.

Click The timer randomness bumped the time to 49'14. No additional frames were saved. I only had to delay one extra frame from the 49'10 smv.

awesome :) It seems that either you already achieved the 49'15", but due to randomness it is now 49'14". Alternatively, if there is still another frame that can be gained somewhere, a 49'17" might even be possible. I watched the .smv and it seems that the counter went 49'19 49'17 49'17 49'14 which is very strange behavior for the clock.

Nope, it did decrement to '16, might have been the excitement that shrouded your emulator. :) But this timer bump was certainly unexpected. If you look closely, you'll see that Taco was only 3.5 pixels away from overriding the frame rule of the door in the debris room. If it's possible to save them, then it's 49'17 alright, with 3130 on the ingame timer as well, which would be the ultimate victory! I'll see if it's possible to optimize the beginning of the room… Two skipped pumps are two whole pixels. There must be a way to reach that steam puff sooner…

nope, never went to '16. just stayed on '17 for a full two frames. I even check using the memory watcher to see if the game frame count actually incremented, and it did. I will edit this later with screenshots. Maybe it is just me, but it is strange anyway.

Same here. This is probably because the movie got stopped during the 49'17 frame, causing a freeze for 1 frame.

Seems my thoughts were right after all. Now that there is a possibility to bypass my time by '01 due to some randomness, the "silly challenge" suddenly got more important than anything. Interesting what a timer can do to change motivations that much. I'm glad to see you finally giving it a try. Good luck.

He basically means you are either stupid or sadly ignorant not to believe him. But anyway, the possible 00:01 change in the clock will only come from changed clock behavior and not a saved frame right?

I think that is a huge overstatement, though ofcourse it is more interesting for him now, for anyone really. For 1 year you have been saying that 49:15 under all conditions is the perfect escape timer and the possibility to prove that wrong must be much more fun than to do a great deal of work just to tie a time in a movie that won't be the final version anyway.

So, I've tried entering the door to the debris room at a different (worse) subpixel position to try preserving contact with the ground (so that I wouldn't have to skip a pump), but for a reason yet unknown to me, the door allows you to start pumping this early only if you enter it at a certain (integer? 45.0 in this case) position, prohibiting me from varying it without losing a frame or a great chunk of distance. I saved half a pixel on the stairway by releasing the run button instead of skipping an armpump. That, however, wasn't enough to jump on the higher ground a frame earlier (I was this close, it has to be possible!), so it screwed with the jump, resulting in a miniscule gain in distance (~24xxx subpixels) overall. That didn't change anything, unfortunately (in fact, the change in position synced with the rest of Taco's smv). Here's the smv, if someone wants to try something else with it. I'm still certain there's more to it than that. Can't be that the improvements stop here.
