Okay, I have so far came up with a few PSD's of logos, where they go at the beginning of each encoded video like the others. Here's what I got, and more to come soon... Mega Man X (maverick) Mega Man X (Zero) The dimensions above are 256x 240 pixels, which I assume is often used when encoding most NES and probably SNES runs. In the future, I might decide to come up with a little Halo, Syphon Filter, maybe World of Warcraft, and definitely Samus Aran! I take limited requests, though, so please don't rush me. =)

Doesn't meet the guidelines, the viewer is going to be looking more at the background than the information regarding this site

I see that some of my fonts are too small, but can the viewer at least see the URL?

Nice work with the art, except for the following considerations: 1) Our videos are commonly 256x224, not 256x240. At 256x224, your first logo looks like this: 2) The message is wrong. The role of tasvideos.org is not to be "a download site", but that of a center of TAS-related information. I don't care where people download these TASes. In order words, though the URL is important, it is not there so that one can say "downloaded from". It is there so that one can "find more (information)" at that site. More information: http://tasvideos.org/EncoderGuidelines.html#Logo 3) The text will be horribly unreadable on interlaced displays. I'm also worried at what a video codec does to such small details. 4) Oh, and the URL is practically invisible at first sight due to the low contrast. That said, why does Maverick have such feminine shape of body? Even though the face is masculine, the shapes are such that only females can cosplay it with whatever little dignity. :)

Does that mean you ever wanted/tried to cosplay them? XD [/offtop]

Well, if I ever attended a cosplay convention in costume, I would probably try some Megaman character that is not a shame to dress as at such a convention. But it seems that it is virtually impossible for a male to dress as any of them without embarrassing oneself. (No, I don't consider cosplaying in general as an embarrassment.) That much for my opinion based on browsing cosplay galleries :)

Bisqwit always goes for the helmet, lol... I'm guessing it is the recent artwork where feminine-shaped bodies were among the modern Mega Man X and it made a few of us think differently. I'm lost for words on that one... Okay, I'll do a little bit of rebuilding and try to make a few fonts more readable. =)

I guess that Dr Cain couldn't decide if he wanted an awesome fighting maching robot or a sexy female robot, so he did something in between. :) About the pictures, they look cool, but I agree with Bisqwit that there's too much focus on the images instead of the text. Good job though, it could turn out good with a few tweaks.

That logo seems to suggest its a TAS site exclusive for Megaman games which plain wrong, but I do agree with Bisqwit that the artwork seems to take presedence over the message itself. If you want to have a games character then make sure they only take up a portion of the screen.

And that is because I plan on doing a few logos based upon other games, maybe those that may or may not be TAS'able. Mega Man X is just a taste!

This was one I did a while ago, not great but just about acceptable.

It's fine, but I should warn you that pure red color gets heavily "blockified" upon encoding due to specifics of how MPEG4 codecs work. Which means changing it to some other color might be in order to keep it less distorted.

We normally rely on the H264 codec, right?

H246 is the "extended" MPEG4

What PJ said. H.264 is MPEG4 part 10.

Okay, I re-did my first original (maverick). On Photoshop, I resized to 256x224 and inserted 2 solid black rectangular shapes, then setting the opacity of both to as high as 75%. Perhaps 80% or higher might make the text more readable but the boxes would be too dark?

It shouldn't matter how big and black the boxes are; the site is not interested in the background. What Bisqwit wants is something that tells you information as it's first priority, and beautiful pictures second. I think that a solid black box would be the best, but I am interested to see what that would look like. Mind posting a 100% opacity? I will probably love you forever.. :D EDIT: Upon continuing to review your art, I notice the background of the whole picture is very loud. All the blue swirls take away emphasis from both the character AND message. A solid color, preferably a darker one, would *probably* work best.

We use x264. Well, I use it, anyway.

Much better, but the grammar could take a touch of professionalism :) Also the URL should end in a slash. I would also make the top right box significantly smaller (only to reduce it to an oneliner "Encoder: <name>" with that other text on a much smaller font below it), and the last line shown in the second box somewhat more prominent.

Maverick's black boxes at 75% opacity, making the background dark enough to maintain text readability: ...and then 100% opacity, to ensure highest level of readability, but making Maverick look like he's in a black swamp and no one can see his legs! ~gasps~ =O The opacity of these boxes will be one thing to find in a PSD, of course it can be customized to one heart's content! It's the judges that call all the shots 'round here. Bisqwit: depending on length of the encoder's screen name (like Mpeg_Man_XXX or something like that), I had to stretch the upper-right box toward his head to give enough room. Nothing else, I can fit all the titles in the bottom box, I just have to move the three lines up a little bit. Thanx for helping me out, you and the people. =)

There is quite some confusion here. H.264 is not a codec, it's a video format standard. x264 is a codec which can encode and decode the H.264 format. (It's one of many codecs which support the format in question.) We don't "use the H264 codec", we "use the H264 format". Also, effectively saying "I use x264, not H264" is wrong. You are creating H.264 videos when you use x264.

One more question: is "emulator clip" wording necessary? Not saying it is wrong, but I haven't yet seen it used here (or anywhere, for that purpose). The word "movie" does, however, have a deeper meaning to it in regards to TASes as a supposed form of art.

I thought a video and a clip would be the same thing, or with the same meaning?
