Hello TAS Videos.org I've just started TAS'ing and i'm confused regarding what plug ins to use for Mupen64 I've searched many sites using google and Ive checked the FAQ and failed to find a "Getting Started" sort of page. If someone could help me out and maybe give me a list of appropriate plug ins to use for this program or message me. Sorry if I might have missed something. Thanks

Do you have the re-recording version of Mupen64?

Hello Satyrium, and welcome to the forums! If you're having trouble with Mupen, please make sure you have this version of mupen since it lets you make movie files: http://www.filespace.org/nitsuja/mupen64-rerecording-v8-installer.exe If you do have the correct file, then please list the games you tried to play with Mupen. Some games only work with certain video plugins, so you have to switch them around if they don't work. You can change graphic plugins by going to your Mupen menu (or press Control +S): Options -> Settings and change your video plugins to something else. Please remember to change these graphic plugins before you start up the game. Some games can only be emulated with a certain type of plugin, while some games cannot be emulated at all. You can refer to Comicalflop's page about N64 games here: http://tasvideos.org/N64Wishlist.html Hope this fixes your problem. Feel free to ask more questions if you need help!

I'm looking to mess around with Starfox 64. The plugins that were recommended to use as defaults are highly problematic for that game. I ran the Super mario 64 rom however and it ran perfectly fine. I was told, however, that different roms rely on different audio and video plugins. Should I just expirement with different ones or does anyone have a solution to find good Starfox 64 ones?

Star Fox 64 huh? I use Jabo's Direct3D8 1.6 graphic plugin for SF64, so see if that helps you. I would also recommend using the (U) version of the game if you are going to try and TAS it, as the (E) and (J) versions (E for Europe, J for Japan) are discouraged unless there is a specific advantage to using it. (Minus the PAL timing, but let's not get into that. :) Coincidentally, I also happen to be the one that has attempted to TAS Star Fox 64, so if you have any questions regarding Corneria or anything about the game, feel free to ask me through PMs, IRC, or through the sf64 thread (or this one too.) Have fun, and hope this helped! Edit: I apologise for the incoherentness of this post.. it's midnight and I'm quite tired. :(

Thanks a lot. I wouldn't consider myself amazing at the game but I'm just interested in messing around to try and get some good scores. I wouldn't expect a video of mine on this website anytime in the near future though haha.

gln64 is what I used, and it also seemed to work fine. Just in case jabo's 1.6 doesn't work for you. Also, that page that meepers' posted was originally supposed to be a concrete list of the best plugin to use for each game, but two things happened: 1, my main site where I kept the info expired, and 2, the new glide64 napalm release pretty much runs 99.5% of all N64 games perfectly.
