I mainly mean the whole "Wow, this level is hard. I could skip it with a P-Wing, but what if I run into an even harder level later? Best to just tough it out and save the P-Wing for when I really need it" mentality. That kind of thinking tends to get you to the end of the game with a good half-dozen P-Wings at least. I know that as a kid, I only ever used them on the World 7 Airship and Bowser's airforce. And that level where you had to fly a turtle shell up a shaft to break some bricks, because I wanted to access the optional Toad house but I sucked at flying while carrying things.

I believe you restart with an inventory full of P-Wings once you beat the game.
I've heard this doesn't always happen, and it depends on something you do near the end of the game, like which Bowser you beat. I'm not sure.

You would be correct, I've beaten the NES version (on a actual NES) many times and never got a full panel of P-Wings. When I first saw it mentioned on a website, I thought whoever posted it was an idiot since it never happened :O. perhapse your meant to fly up-left over the top from the left bowser and trigger that funny sound effect? I never discovered that until we had A SNES instead of a NES.

No, I've had it happen every time on my NES, regardless of which Bowser I beat. Are you sure that you weren't resetting the game? My memory is hazy, but I'm pretty sure that you had to wait until "The End" appeared, and then hit start on the controller.

IIRC, start either did nothing or reset the game and i retained what I already had.
