I'm doing a ca,me,ka,sx,ma,a6,ve run for fun. I think i'm just going to make it individual youtubes though since I know I won't beat meeper's score.

well, since meepers has really only completed one stage, there's only that one stage where you'd know or not if you beat her score (not counting the part where she stopped mid way through in meteo.) Now, if you want more vids to compare with, check out nangosan's vids. Just please, please don't spam the annoying buttons the way he did, like <^>v and up C to change the camera like nangosan did.

I'll try not to. I have a bad habit of barrel rolling because it's so pretty to look at. Just for you I'll keep it on the down-low though. Thanks for the links also.

barrel rolling is fine though. I'd say watch meeper's corneria video, it has so far the most entertaining playthrough of any TAS. And she barrel rolled a lot.

Yes I've already seen it and took a few notes. My first corneria run on normal mode was 250 but I'm finding out a lot of things I could have done to make it much better.

Made this about a week ago for fun to test out Mupen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UjJmtdumLOo only about 100 rerecords. Obvious errors but oh well.

This was done with 0 re-records, on real console: http://youtube.com/watch?v=Zkc7_xQ8bXY Sorry, but your Corneria score is nothing special, even if it would be non-TAS .

I know. I'm not very good at this game. Thats why I posted it so I can get some advice after watching possible errors I made.

Hi Satyrium, After watching the Youtube video, here's the advice/comments I have: - (1:28) You need to brake before firing the charged up shot (I'll refer to them as CUS from now on) as you want the CUS to indirectly destroy all of them. In your video, you only get a +4 bonus which means one of the fighters was hit directly. - (1:54) Please try not to use the lock-on system, as it tends to prevent more points from being scored (One of the fighters bore the direct CUS hit.) - (1:58) Don't use lasers on regular enemies, as you won't get the extra point. CUSs fired from far away can go far enough to splash them. - (2:02) Direct CUSs should be avoided, as you hit the floating/stationary enemy with a straight shot. If possible, try to aim a little lower so it won't hit either enemy. - (2:04) Again, regular lasers should be avoided. - (2:10) Please check to make sure your CUS hits all the enemies. I believe you missed one. - (2:12) The m64 in this thread has a way to destroy that group of three fighters, so a direct hit can be avoided. (Aim for the top of the column when they fly near it) - (2:14) Do not fire the lay-zaah. - (2:16) You can actually the group of three fighters before they come out, by shooting the building with a CUS (provided you have the right timing.) - (2:17) Try and have your laser already charged up and ready to fire a CUS at the robot (as I call them) after dealing with the three enemies from before so you get more time to spam the robot with CUSs. If you don't already know, you can spam the lower half of the robot with CUSs for points as long as you make sure the CUS indirectly hits it. - (2:19) Lay-zaaah. :( - (2:22) More lay-zaaah. :( - (2:28) Since you're TASing the game, try and spam the robot more. - (2:31) Avoid locking onto enemies if you can help it, since it doesn't help maximise your score. :( - (2:34) Another direct CUS. - (2:40) While this is a purely stylistic choice in picking up the golden ring, I believe it's much better to get as many points as you can and THEN dealing with how it should be played. - (2:42) Not sure if that was intentional, but shooting the robot with lasers doesn't do anything when it's already blown up. - (2:48) Another stylistic choice, but I'm still wondering what you tried to do there. You missed the checkpoint and used up an extra two seconds for..? - (2:57) Direct CUSs make me go :( - (3:00) Remember to fly through the two columns on your left, as it triggers four more ships to spawn in front of you. Also, you missed a ship on your very left. (It's at the second pair of columns) - (3:06) Lock-on system should be avoided. And firin' your lazahs. - (3:14) Another stylistic choice, but I should remind you that you will pick up a laser upgrade anyway near the end of the level. An extra bomb might be better.. :x - (3:21) You could've used the time getting the golden ring to probably shoot the robot a few times. Also, use your brake in these situations, as it helps scoring. As a related sidenote, using the beams to help shorten the distance the CUS has to travel in order to spam the robots is a good idea, and should be used when possible. =) - (3:33) Nooo the bomb :( - (3:54) Nooo extra bomb :( Also, before you enter the waterfall, you can lock onto a enemy on your left between the mountains. I haven't quite figured out the most efficient way to go about this, but this trick adds around 7 points. I'll update the thread once I figure out if this can be improved. - (3:59) I would advise not to use a bomb, as awesome as it is, because bombs don't carry the scoring-potential of CUSs. A quick comparision of bombs vs CUSs: Bomb pros: Hits everything in a huge radius Useful for positioning (in the case of the robots, I haven't found any other uses for it otherwise) CUS pros: Everything it indirectly hits gives a bonus of 1 point. (Therefore many ships can have a double point value, if you CUS correctly) Fires relatively fast - (4:00) The divebombing birds can be hit with a CUS when they're closest to the ground, or maybe a little higher to prevent accidental direct CUS hits. - (4:02) The fighter that Falco chases can be hit with a CUS if you aim at the mountain slope (on your right) correctly. - (4:06) Bombing the tree-jumpers (as I call them) can be avoided if you brake and CUS the ground. You can also use this to spam them for points, as you can't destroy them while they're in the ground, but CAN hit them. ^^ - (4:11+4:13) The two groups of three enemy fighters can be splashed with a CUS when they come back around and fire at you. Just aim at the water below them (position them to be lower if you have to, by skimming the water with your ship) and it should blow them up. Also, no laser upgrade? :( Comments about the boss fight: You can actually take out the first section of the boss by first charging a CUS and having it hit right when he fires off the first missile, which destroys the rest in the process. That way, the CUS opens up the section and you don't have your laser fire blocked by missiles. Same goes for the two missile-launcher bays. It's also possible to destroy both bays in one go, so remember to use turbo fire (and boost, if you need to) to destroy the bays. I would also turbo when the boss comes towards you, as it allows faster firing rates with your laser and helps you take down the boss faster. In closing, while this is quite a long list (Yikes!), you did mention you only used about 100 re-records on it, so I take it this isn't a very serious run. I myself used around 10k to get 337. I would strongly advise you to compare your runs to other players and to the .m64 in this thread, as they are immense sources of information. If you ever have any questions, feel free to PM me or hop on #nesvideos and ask (My name is usually miipasu, although I nick as zombers from time to time.) A good first attempt, and I look forward to seeing your future work. :) As a unrelated but still Star Fox-related sidenote, I have started to work on Corneria yet again. I have found at least 4 points that can be gained, and possibly more.

hey i'm currently working on a high score TAS of this game, i've finished corneria just now aking the alternative boss, which route should i take considering this map? i'm planning on taking the "hard" route until zoness, going to macbeth and then the hard route again, but i'm not sure if that will have more enemies than meteo - katina - solar - machbeth then area 6. Does anybody know which route should i take? also i'm on sector Y atm half way trough it 200 kills, maybe aqua will make up for meteo but i'm not sure.

You want to take the red route, Corneria->Sector Y->Aquas->Zoness->Macveth->Area 6->Venom. This will yield the highest score, due to using a shooting glitch in Aquas (Aquas unassisted gives 100ish score, tool assisted gives 300+.) See this vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEOJcvTn--4 Can you show your .m64? Also, I recommend talking to me and meepers; we've planned a lot for the run, can spot mistakes, and give loads of tips, info, and suggestions.

Notice in that the difference between easy and Hard. Hard = more enemies = higher score.

Expert run. Edit: To Blaze, if you didn't get more than 341 on Corneria, then you're missing a few points. <3

i'm actually re doing corneria because i found an improvement over the run on youtube , look on 2:04 , he gets + 3 hit bonus , i changed that and got +4 so i think the final score will be 342 right? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gqrmGWpwAs here's the run i'm talking about

I remember someone (Psonar?) told me that CO-ME-KA-SX-MA-A6-VE is higher scoring than CO-SY-AQ-ZO-MA-A6-VE. Can anyone confirm/deny this Oh, which reminds me, that map is wrong. It should be SX-MA, not TI-MA.

Another expert run. If Fox has those black sunglasses on, it's on expert and has more enemies than normal (which is what all of our TAS attempts have been on.) The run I haven't produced yet, but have figured out on normal so far is a total of 341. I hit 337 with my fully completed run, but realized there's at least 4 missing extra points to be had, so 341 is the min to hit. Any extra points would be awesome. In response to petrie911: It seems that most likely that the CO-ME-KA-SX-MA route won't yield as many points as CO-SY-AQ-ZO-MA because Aquas/Zoness can make up for the points lost in Sector Y. Unless severe testing in Meteo/Katina can prove otherwise, CO-SY-AQ-ZO-MA-A6-VE will be the official TAS high-score route.

I don't think it's a max, more about how slowly you move through that area and squeeze in as many hits as possible. The death animation for the robots seems to last longer than the amount of time the ship is passing, so good luck in trying to squeeze in more hits.

Hi. I just came across this forum and feel I can make a contribution towards a TAS in Star Fox 64. Just to make clear, I don't do TASs, I play on a real N64. Us in the Star Fox 64 community recently discovered a new technique in Corneria where 3 more points can be gotten just before the checkpoint by sending a bomb beyond the checkpoint to the 3 enemies on the left. I made a video of it. Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xneVWSIqk0c Of course you will need to die and then restart from the checkpoint like in the TAS Sector Y run. Hope this helps.

I am very much against the use of death in a TAS for this game, since it is such a huge disruption of the flow of gameplay. I've only seen two instances where taking damage looked cool: in Aquas to use spamming torpedoes against the environment, and in Sector Y to go through the ships to reach more enemies. Intentionally taking damage everywhere in a stage just to be able to respawn at the checkpoint is not very fun to watch at all.

Ok, I'm slowly picking up Meepers' run. For the moment that means I'm just trying to match her score. 20 kills in and I've already found an annoying "feature" of the game. The scoring system works like this. You get points for killing enemies and you can get bonuspoints by killing enemies just for being within the blast radius of a charged up shot (CUS). Nothing new here. However, you actually GET the bonuspoints when you see the +x and the killpoint when the enemy CRASHES. The latter is important here. When the enemy dies some distance behind you, the point does NOT count. Most likely the game destroys leveldata behind you (since you can't ever go back there) including or excluding the enemy, but the enemy does never crash either way and thus never registers the point. Demonstration: http://nl.youtube.com/watch?v=k022FAeKhqg (0:40) I'm happy to say that I've redone the wip and am now matching the score at the same endpoint. Won't be posting another Corneria wip untill I'm done (let's not spam up youtube anymore than it already is ;)

Yeah, meepers and I already knew this. You'll notice we both shoot at one of the ships before it lands because otherwise it wouldn't give its point. I'm looking to see your work. One thing I cannot stress enough is playing style and entertainment. The difference between a ho-hum run like nangosan's and pure art is how masterfully you fly the ship, how you kill things and how you swoop around.
