I started to think about making a better route months ago linkmore link
In the end it wasnt a bad idea i guess, the main point is to avoid the library-colosseum-library trip, proceed directly to clock tower and inverted castle
To achieve this whe had to swap 2 relics, bat is traded for double jump, mist for fairy, extra gears was also acquired, a "trust" sword (allow to "fly" with wolf) and the masamune (high pwnage sword)
After countless mistake and problems, i decided to release this because im somewhat happy of the result
I believe this movie is improvable, but its already an improvement, need to start somewhere to make things move so i think its not a big deal to post it
In term of frames, i think maybe up to 300/400 (at the best and ideal conditions) can be saved if you feel enought nerdy to take upon that game
Those few frames to save are going to be nightmare tought, everybody (including me) is warned.
Sorry for small submision text, ill complete it later, time for some rest right now

Tricks & Glitchs

Oho, some redaction needed here!

things I like: 1 - the end of the regular castle, all the bouncing on the fleamen... best action in the whole run what I didn't like: 1 - The damned wall at clock tower 2 - 3 medusa shield spells at Dracula, when it could've been 2

Pretty freaking wonderful. Terrible encode. "HQ" my ass, YouTube. Am I right that conversations can't be skipped unless you've completed the game once already?

Right, you need a save on the mem card that has beaten the game (don't remember if you have to beat the "true" endings, or just any ending).

I wish I knew a little bit more about how this game worked. Like, at one point, Alucard crouches a bunch of times and some sort of soul flies out of the wall, but I'm not sure what that's doing. In addition, is the fairy healing you all the time so that you can get Big Tossed that much? However, this was pretty awesome to watch, especially with all the Big Tossing and with the glitching through the elevator to get the Soul of Wolf. A sizable improvement to the existing run, as well. Yes vote.

I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) The "soul flying out of the wall" is a spell that you can cast. SotN spells are cast by performing directional inputs followed by attack. For example, IIRC that spell is "left, right, up, down, attack"; there's a second level variant that casts four ghosts and is "hold up, semicircle to down, attack". The spellcasting is done mostly to avoid gaining experience from kills, which takes time, makes it harder to do the Big Toss (flying damage boost, which requires taking >50% HP damage in one hit), and makes it impossible to do the Flea Rider climb since you deal too much damage. I'm not certain about the exact mechanics involved in avoiding experience, though. He uses the Fairy to glitch himself a massive supply of Potions (basic healing items), which the Fairy uses to heal him. He may also be using them directly; I haven't personally played with the Fairy active enough to tell (normally she's a crappy familiar). Things I liked: * Reduced use of Wolf Climb as compared to the previous movie * The Flea Rider climb and avoiding the Richter fight * All the Fairy's wasted actions, especially trying to heal you in the elevator and the upside-down castle teleport. * The way the last fight sounds like a bizarre techno song with the hit sounds and damage grunts. In general, the gameplay feels much tighter withe Leap Stone instead of Power of Mist.

Its pretty nuts, theres 2 main ways, with or without the clock subweapon, in this movie its without, you need to be invulnerable (spell/potion) then enter ennemy sprite while you cant be hit, then do a combo very fast (sword/axe here) The biggest improvement on this technique was black panther to get masamune The petrify effect of medusa shield (panther is affected...) is effectivly working like the clock subweapon effect The fleamans bouncing require to have 1 STR, and 32hp max, the most troublesome is the book in library actually, this one require us to be max level2 when entering lib (note: having more than 1STR also mean to kill ballon pods in inverted chapel, in this movie i dont get level up because im still 1 STR there) Oh, and fairy does heal you if you get in yellow numbers (low life), after big toss she will always try to heal you, higher level fairy = faster reflex to heal you Big toss does trigger her healing behavior much more than taking low hits

Thanks for the info about the game, Derakon and ArukADO. I'm not sure I really liked the last boss fight, compared to the published movie, just because this fight seemed a lot longer. However, I'm sure you had your reason for this, and there was a certain appeal to the fight where it looked like you mostly got to stand still and watch Dracula die.

It took longer to kill Drac, but the fight was already decided fairly early on. The strategy this time was to get the Medusa Shield and use its shield spell, which is a long-lasting attack spell. Once it's been cast three times, the movie can end (you'll note that Alucard uses a defense booster and then just stands there getting knocked around for the rest of the fight). Last time more proactive tactics were used. :)

Does anyone notice that Richard, Alucard, Dracula, & Shaft have the exact same voice? Its kinda scary. Oh, and Yes vote. Some parts looked like they could have been faster, but a Yes vote none the less.

This is the type of runs that make me come as much as i can to check the workbench forum, an absolute "no-waste" Tas Speedrun. Yes, the morphing technique to reach things above is annoying, but it has the charm of being one of those things i tried long ago to reach those places while playing on real time, Awesome work 100% yes.

Its wrong, every of those character have a different comedian voice http://www.mobygames.com/game/castlevania-symphony-of-the-night (full actors there, 5 different males)

Care to explain witch parts you believe is sloppy? Some are effectily a bit sloppy (not that many tought...) but id like to know what people think is improvable This is not a perfect movie anyway, but it isnt bad neither and its 1:18 faster than actual run, even if i take a full minute to climb dracula pit :p So overall it wasnt a bad idea to release it i think Too bad the 2 meh voters didnt took the occassion to explain why meh

The actors who play Richter and Dracula are far above all others. They outperform the japanese ones.

Yeah, Alucard is a comedian sometimes, just like Batman.

Probably some of the setups for the big tosses/mega damageboosts, but I think those only look sloppy (without necessarily being so) because the setup sometimes looks weird. I vote yes, because the movie was very cool, and a lot more entertaining than the last one, as well as being faster.

Definitely entertaining, even with the long climb to get to Shaft. Only question I have is with the Dracula fight: After casting the shield spell 3 times, would using any other spells/attacks immediately cancel out the shield spell or would the game not even register the attacks (meaning they wouldn't do any damage)?

When you cast spell the game is frozen, you cant input until the spell animation is complete, the only spell that can be canceled is the dark shield, if you have wolf/mist and playing jap version, all the rest cant be canceled at all The movie end at the input starting the third spell (given pirate say it can be done in 2 spell, maybe the movie will be updated if it happen to be true) The "rate of fire" of 5 lasers probably void any sword swing, i think I trow an axe at the begin but yeah, its useless, he got 10'000 HP btw, and whe deal 13 damage

I'm surprised that the Alucard Shield isn't faster than... uh, whatever spell that is, I don't even know. Medusa, apparently. I honestly almost didn't bother to look at this entry in the submissions because I just assumed there was little left to improve on after the first one; I figured it'd be maybe a few frames saved from gaining levels or something boring. So color me pleasantly surprised. It's really amazing how so many little things about this game allow it to be TAS'd this way. Take out one of the many minor programming glitches or neat little tricks this game has, and this route would be impossible. I love it.

Compared to alucard shield, casting 3 times medusa is in fact slower, yes, im hoping pirate will come with 2 cast, wich should then be equal edit: still no word from pirate on that matter...
