About the game

Romansing SaGa is RPG released by Square(famous for Final Fantasy series) in 1992. It is the 4th work of SaGa series. It was released only in Japan. SaGa series are popular in Japan as much as Final Fantasy series. Romansing SaGa is the first work that adopts "Free scenario system" in the series. First of all, the player chooses the hero from 8 characters. The first state is different depending on the hero whom the player chose. However, The final purpose of any hero is the same. The player can choose the scenario freely by the goal.

About the glitch

It is famous in Romancing SaGa that there are a lot of glitches. In this run, I used the glitch named "Lady-luck's Bug"(LB). Only when Hawk is a hero, LB can be used.
The occurrence condition of LB is as follows.
  • Reperts "Enters Oapu → Driven out from Oapu" 10 times.
The phenomenon generated by LB includes many things.
Typical phenomena are as follows.
  • Speaks an unknown thing.
  • Moves to another map.
  • Specific items are obtained.
  • Specific characters become companions.
  • Suddenly starts a battle with the last boss.
What phenomenon happens changes in the timing of the key input. It changes in each frame. In this run, I cause phenomenon "Suddenly starts ending" by luck manipulation. "Suddenly starts ending" is a very unusual phenomenon.

I hope you enjoy my run.

cpadolf: I have no idea of what just happened, but if you beat an RPG in 2 minutes I'd say that you must have done something right. Accepting for publication.

Voted yes, nice abuse of a mysterious glitch. Bugreport (snes9x-rr 1.43 svn106 win32): 1. begin playing the movie with the latest svn build of snes9x-rr 1.43 2. pause it around frame 1900, then make a new savestate, and load it then, graphics will be messed, and the run will be desynced. The savestate of the latest version is incomplete possibly? I wonder :o

I watched the youtube link, and it deserves to be put up because of it's obvious speed, and perhaps because it just won't be much trouble for the encoders as far as I can tell.

Here's another "WTF HOW DID YOU WIN SO FAST?" videos! I was so surprised when it said "Movie End." before the half-way point in the video, I loled. Voted yes.

One of those times where a "WTF" option in the poll would be good. Voting yes.

>>gocha Thank you for the vote. I also tried with snes9x-rr 1.43 svn106. However, the problem by a new savestate did not happen. Is there a problem in the version of ROM?

No, the ROM CRC matches well and I can watch your movie without desync. (actually, ROM version is not a problem. Emulator must not cause such a glitch for all games, right? ;P) Well, the state glitch seems to happen at some certain frames. For instance, it occurs at frame #1420, #1421, #1428, #1429, #1436, #1437... It should be investigated immediately. I'll test things as soon as possible. Edit: Traced it (WIP)
dma.cpp: while (CPU.Cycles > CPU.NextEvent) S9xDoHBlankProcessing (); // 0x7xxxx vs. 0x400
This loop increments CPU.V_Counter in insane speed. Hmm, I'm not sure how I can fix the issue yet, though... Edit: bah, it also happens on 1.51 v6: ...not true, forget about that.

I have NO idea what just happened, but that was fast :P Voted yes though, since it's obviously a glitchfest (and that appeals to me :P)

I'm happy to see this game, but that run is... well, short. It's hard to say if it's entertaining or not. As a demonstration of a weird skip-the-whole-game glitch I guess it's good. I'll vote yes. I'm sort of interested to see what a non-Hawke (maybe Albert?) run would be like. Pretty sure Weip was officially translated as Oapu.

The run might've been short, but it was also very uneventful. You don't see the same kind of mad glitching you saw in the Chrono Trigger run. Voting meh.

Still... "Movie End." So epic.

So... you just entered a location multiple times in order to access a glitch, then put in a specific input to activate the end of the game? That's really boring. It's a cool glitch, but in practice it kills the entirety of its entertainment value. Meh vote, leaning heavily toward No.

Bahaha, I read the completion time as 2 hours 14 minutes instead of 2 minutes 14 seconds. I never expected an RPG like this to be so quickly beatable.

It looks like the player corrupts memory in this movie. If someone can confirm this, please let me know so I can add the corresponding tag to the publication.
