This is a pretty horrible rip-off of Sonic. There are three "acts" to each level, and each one has a high speed level, a platforming level, and a maze-type level. I made a WIP of the first level, including the boss, just to get an idea of if this would be worth continuing on with. I have no idea how long the movie would be if I completed it, mainly because I have no clue how many levels there are. I can't find anything on Google about the game other than a campy and cheesy description from the box. And it really sucks a lot to play, so I'd rather just work through one level at a time, and be pleasantly surprised when it comes to an end. Here's the WIP: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/3983/Socket%20%28W%29%20%5B%21%5D.gmv Oh, BTW... the main character is supposed to be a duck. A duck with an electrical cord for a tail. Yeah. Everyone can laugh now.

I just watched your run, which wasn't boring at all. The three different types of levels created variation, it was fast paced and the graphics provided a nice dose of surrealism. I guess the game is about as long as the earlier Sonic games are.

Even that little bit of encouragement is enough for me to want to pick this back up after my two current runs are done. It certainly would be an obscure addition to the site if it were published, since I'd never heard of it, and I doubt anyone else had too, since it does have some nice elements to TAS with. Thanks for the feedback Aqfaq!

Sonic rip-off it may be (even the protagonists' names are similar) but I must say that the concept of collecting energy to keep yourself alive is quite original...or at least very rare.
Why, oh, why do I even <i>try</i> to understand my own species?

Heh, I'd almost forgotten about this game, but not quite... it's always been in the back of my head as a decent run to try. I liked the WIP, how does it compare to my previous work on the first level?

Actually, I had been working on this before I found out that my WIP was desynched on the first level. I failed to make any valid backup to recover from, and then I halted this project. However, I didn't cancel it. After watching your WIP, I suppose it is slower than my previous WIP due to its looking less precise, but I can't provide more detailed info without looking closer. (I've been working on / watching too many WIPs at the moment, and I don't feel like watching any more. Sorry.)

I don't know much about the game. It would be nice if I had more information to use. I just want to know how much faster you are than me though. It would help as a goal for the next WIP.

I don't have the movie files now. I lost them because I didn't think broken files are bachkupworthy. But my instinct for TASing tells me yours can be improved. The onlt thing I remember is that Socket's running speed can be optimized in sub-pixel level.

Neat. I keep getting distracted by the fact the sound effects are the same as in DecapAttack, though.

So, Me & ElectroSpector were working on this a while back, and we made it to the 5th world. Everything before 4-2 was redone by ElectroSpector except for 2 boss fights. I did 4-2 & 4-3. Unfinished WIP I might continue this again after im done with other stuff.

:-D Glad to see this! I can't watch it ATM, but I'll be sure to check it out once I get home. I hope you finish it sometime soon.

Woah, I can't believe there is a topic for this, let alone a well-progressed WIP. Any plans on finishing this? I would love to see it finished. Even if it is a sonic ripoff, it's still got a few tracks I like from the options menu (06 and 12).
Current thoughts: Hachiemon (J) for GBA.

I was thinking about picking this up a while ago since its almost near the end. I just wonder about what ElectroSpecter would have to say though.

Awesome, I love seeing good rare or unpopular games getting attention. Even if the gameplay is a subpar ripoff of sonic, I rather enjoy the music and I'll await any updates if you decide to pick this back up!

So I did some Socket last night and made it to 5-2. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1749758414/Socket%20%28U%29%20%5B%21%5D.gmv At this point, im considering lableing everything after 4-2 or 4-3 a "test run" mostly because i'm probably going to go back & refine sections of the run when its done.

I and someone else on Sonic Retro have messed around with this game before (but not in the TAS-y way). To answer your question, there's 7 worlds in total.
Oh, BTW... the main character is supposed to be a duck. A duck with an electrical cord for a tail. Yeah. Everyone can laugh now.
Not just any duck, but a time-traveling duck! Sonikkustar, your current WIP looks pretty cool! I like the glitching in 2-3. Here's a little tip to save in real time that you may or may not know: if you reach the goal with full energy, you get an extra bonus that takes time to tally into your score. So if it is possible, it's a little faster to reach the goal with less than full energy. Good luck on your TAS! Hope you like gravity puzzles! That's the entirety of the 6th world.

Pardon the double post, but this is kind of important and I want to bring attention to it. I created basic maps of EVERY level in the game. They don't show any object locations, because I don't know where that is stored in RAM. But I do have all the level layouts here, which should be more than ample for route planning. You may notice that the map for 7-3 has a sealed-off area. That area is where the boss door is located, and getting in there is a bit... unorthodox. See, there are other doors in levels that take you to bonus levels, and when you clear said bonus level, you reappear elsewhere on the map. (But if you die, you lose a life and have to start over in the stage itself.) So, in 7-3, you have to go through a bonus level to reach the sealed area, so you can reach the final boss. This is, IIRC, the only time a bonus stage is mandatory.
