Hello! And welcome to my thread :). And by the way, if you're just now joining the site, Welcome to TASVideos!!! *Sorry for the confusion, this is meant for starting TAS'ers to get the idea for there first TAS, but TAS'ing common games and finding a game that they find they're comfortable with, I don't mean to for your first time to try and go for an all out optimized run! :P* Before reading, if not already be sure to check out this thread! http://tasvideos.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8535 First off, if you're reading this, than most likely you are a newbie of TAS'ing, but may not necessarily be ignorant to what a TAS (that is a (T)ool (A)ssisted (S)peedrun/(S)uperplay) is. You're going to want to find a game that you have played and are very familiar with, for example if you're familiar with Super Metroid or very familiar with it (As I am :D), than that's a good game to start TAS'ing. However, never go for a game that you've never played before, one you're just now playing for the first time, or a game that you have never beat. Below are some games that many people have played, and even if you haven't played that one, you're sure to have played one of them in the list! List of common played games by people: 1. Metroid (NES) 2. The Legend of Zelda (NES) 3. Mario Bros. 1, 2, & 3 (NES) 4. Pokemon Games (Various Systems) 5. Super Metroid (SNES) 6. Donkey Kong 1, 2, & 3 (SNES) 7. Zelda Ocarina of Time/ Majora's Mask (N64) 8. Super Mario 64 (N64) 9. Castlevania Series (Various Systems) ~ Symphony of the Night is a good one to try :). 10. Spyro 1, 2, & 3 (PSX - Playstation) Just a few to start out with, I'm sure that you, the reader, have played at least one, if not all of these games :). Below I'll explain what you should do if you decide to TAS one of those above listed games. And below in the next post, to keep my posting more organized, you will find descriptions, and links, as well as information to the games I'm more familiar with, such as Spyro, Super Metroid, and Zelda.

Metroid: Ahh the original game for the NES, that shocked many after beating the game and realizing that guy that was actually playing as was actually a gal. Pokemon Ahh who could forget trying to wake up early Saturday morning or Wednesday evening to turn on the TV to the WB and watch this kick arse show :)? But after 2nd gen the series went down hill in the eyes of true fans, however, the games themselves are still fun, and even more fun to TAS. Heavy glitch abuse can be used to even beat the game (Red/Blue/Green/Yellow) in under a minute! Or if you're going for a true legit run, luck manipulation can be used to beat the game as fast as possible, even showing off those incredibly rare, and nearly impossible to find shiny Pokemon. :P - Links added later.. I'm sleepy :P - 5. Super Metroid Samus is back after kicking the Metroid's arses on SR388, with his rival Ridley, and a.. Very Confused Metroid Larva. Whether through TAS'ing hacks (Google Super Metroid S.M.I.L.E), Redesign, or the all time classic original, I'm positive you'll have as much fun as I've had with this game! - Links added later- 6. Donkey Kong 1, 2, & 3 Gotta love them Monkeys :), now some other things to be sure to look at about this game is the various warp points in the games, some are even inentional to the developers, such as the memory problem after beating the first level in DKC1, where you can glitch warp after Stage 1 level 1 to half way through the 3rd stage.. half way into a level! - Links added later- 7. Zelda Ocarina of Time/ Majora's Mask ~Description Added Later~ - Links added later- 8. Super Mario 64 Contrary to what MANY people say on this site, after learning a few of the glitches to this game, such as the Back Wards Long Jump (BLJ), TAS'ing this game can be highly educational to your TAS'ing career, because this game is easy, very fun, and a big part of MANY of our child hoods.. Just because it's 3D, don't mean jack after you get the hang of it, and I'll be the one to say that, this game was my very first experimental TAS's :) 9. Spyro ~Description Added Later~ - Links added later- Thanks for reading my thread, whether you've just skimmed through it, or read it all, I hope it has helped you, and for your first TAS, don't try to compare yourself to a PRO, just sit back, set a time, try to beat it, if you can, good! Keep setting it lower and lower, but don't set it too low that its near impossible/impossible even with maximum optimization. After you really get the hang of TAS'ing, try to beat one of the submitted movies here, or maybe some of those that didn't make the cut here, on Youtube. Who knows your TAS may end up here one day!

Don't you think it would be wiser to link to the publication instead of the stream?

I honestly think that these games are not good for TASing if you're a new, because all of them are complex and already very well optimized. Beating the existing TASes of these games is extremely hard. I do not recommend these games for newbies except for testing and learning basics of TASing. But if you're up to it and feel confident, I wish you good luck.

Yeah, I'll change that in a bit, I was trying to rush this a bit since I was sleepy that night, and trying to work on my Spyro 2 100% TAS. :)

That's moreover of what I mean, the point in this is to get people who are new to TAS'ing an idea of how to start doing there TAS'ing.. I don't mean for them to at first try a fully optimized TAS :P, It's all about practice at first, and then on to the real thing once you get the hang of the game itself, and understanding how to TAS numerous things of course.
