You shouldn't initiate or fuel a pointless discussion. Now let me go all meta and remark on how I just did what I told you guys not to do.

Hey guys, A friend and I were bored, so decided to record a commentary for the current 0-star TAS published on the site. It's a bit of fun, so tell us what you think! I'm looking forward to any and all new SM64 runs coming up, keep up the good work. I don't know enough about the technicalities of the game to provide much assistance, I'm afraid. You can download the commentary here (right-clickable). Is there some way to get this added to the submission on the main site? Cheers, Franklint

It wasn't that much entertaining to me. Though that may not be your fault. TAS's tend to go too fast for explaining each trick, like the fast pole climbing wasn't even mentioned. I would like to hear more details about it. However I like to hear the things such as that you can go to that place in mario kart, or that the 2nd boss fight is the only one that has lava. Maybe you could add more on developpment of the run?
Thanks CX gamer, a very good point. I'm glad you liked some of the idle chatter, but you're right that, in a run of this length, we should have singled out as many specific tricks as possible. The fast pole-climbing is a good example, and we should have talked more about how the run came to be, such as how the minimum star count decreased over the years. We'll keep this in mind for the potential next commentary.

Awesome, BrainStormer, it seems we share a similar sense of humour! I'm stoked you found the run so amusing; it seems you are the first person to whom the jokes have truly appealed. Thanks for the comment. Cheers, Franklint

I also found the commentary very funny and entertaining. Only thing I'd say that could make it slightly better is describing certain tricks more like the pole climbing glitch (like CX gamer said). Besides that the approach was awesome and the jokes were funny

Shoot to the Island in the Sky by me and mickey, in 14"53. Beats old WR by Brian, by 2 frames through sheer optimization.
SilentSlayers and I saved 2 frames over this and now have 14"46. We won't be uploading since the runs are so similar though.

No, that isn't where we saved. One frame was from getting more BLJ speed with a slightly different starting LJ angle. The other was from the mountain to the island.

He removed the text from the begining of the stage. That makes this video completely pointless to the 0-star TAS.

No it doesn't. What kind of logic is that? Anyway, to the point: This is another potentially fake video by Brian. I just saw it like, 10 seconds ago, so I'll talk with the team and see what they say when they're online. Meanwhile, Japanese people are awesome: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m24Lfd8Ib7I&feature=sub Update on situation: 1) Nahoc timed the video with a YouTube downloader and got 14"60. This obviously isn't proof either way, it could be 14"57, or could be 14"63. An .m64 is the only proof. 2) Brian won't tell us where he "saved time" on MSN. 3) We're just going to move on. There's no .m64, there's no proof.

about Brian's vids, isn't it possible to download them and cut them up frame by frame with some program? then by counting the frames you should be able to get the time that Jap's TAS was sex

The accuracy of the YouTube download, Brian's encode or yet alone, YouTube itself is always questionable.

Hey guys I used 4 trillion rerecords and I saved a frame, but i'm not going to tell you how I did it :) On a more serious note, don't you guys agree that the final bowser song sounds great? I've been hearing it a lot lately...

Agreed, it's awesome: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oz3GGDSIku0 2:35 in imo. I learned this reasonably well a long time ago, but I haven't really played it in 18 months, and would need to relearn it at this point. Actually I should dig up the sheet music tomorrow..

how do you do that glitchy wallkick? do you just perform a normal wallkick, but in that exact spot, or is it different somehow?

Yeah, you basically got it. Position, speed and angle all have a factor in it. No one truly understands it I believe, we mostly just trial and error. There sometimes is a general pattern on when it works, but in other cases, it can be extremely "random". ^^ Update on the Brian 14"57 situation: It is timed to be 14"60, AND we see a frame cut out. This means that it ties what we have. No, we aren't 100% positive, but we are happy to move on without enough proof. Just incase you guys were curious, I thought I'd let you know what we think. :)
