This is my first post and this is my third run of quad-run.I refered to many movie files.So I need to say "Thanks" to authors of many movies.

Game Objectives

  • FCEUX 2.1.3-interim svn1599
  • Uses same roms as current fastest movie used
  • Aims for fastest time
  • Four games in one movie
  • Manipulates luck
  • Take damage to save time
  • No death
  • Abuses programming errors

Useful Information for the run

  • If you push left and right on the same time, SMB1 and SMB2J will walk toward right, SMB2 will run toward right and SMB3 will stop accelerating.Even if SMB3 jump, SMB3 won't accelerate.
  • If you push left or right and bottom, SMB1,SMB2J and SMB2 will stop accelerating unless SMB1,2J and 2 are jumping and SMB3 will run toward left or right.
  • In SMB1 and SMB2J,you start to push A button to jump and when you stop pushing A button even if you stop pushing 1 frame,Mario won't rise up even if you push A button again.On the other hand, in SMB2 and SMB3, if you stop pushing A button for a moment,Mario will rise up when you push A button again.

One nesbot could play four NESes, but it could prove difficult to reset them all exactly at the same time. Perhaps if their reset buttons are wired all to the same physical button...

Yes, it also appeared on dumpert.nl, a major Dutch video website. (see here) Unfortunately (yet unsurprisingly), there it also gets the typical TAS treatment of being decried fake everywhere. (It's currently rated -418 there).

I also meant "one NES". Emphasis on the word "in succession". Of course, in a 1-to-4 situation your point is valid, but that is not what the post you replied to was talking about.

I have to vote no because SMB1 was finished half-way through the run. You know what would turn it into a big yes? If you replayed SMB1 in hard mode, and finished that at the same time as the other three. Since it's really close to the half-way point of the movie when you beat it on easy, I'd say that's more than possible.

The synchronization of the other three probably isn't intentional. Besides, adding a second run of SMB1 would significantly increase the run's time. The SMB3 run would end up being much more than 14 seconds longer than the SMB3-only run; not a good thing.

It was interesting to me to see that only SMB3 used any power-ups, though, as people have already said in this thread, SMB3 is the longest of the four, and needs to be optimized the most. Easy yes vote. Sorry for the delay, but will have this published soon.

I see. There were a lot of points that looked somewhat less than optimal, then. Maybe just nature of the beast, but there's a lot of points where in one game Mario's just standing there. I thought the objective was a little more about entertainment.

I dunno, I have a hard time imagining that if a new run was made that taking a less optimal route in Mario 1 would affect Mario 3 speed-wise if that game was still the main focus...

I just noticed now that the encode has stereo sound, which is awesome. Makes it easier on the ears if you want to focus on half of the screen for a while. As for the whole 'SMB1 is finish too early' argument...there isn't enough time for another run to have all 4 end around the same time without extending the length of the other games (assuming it even could be done easily). The others run only 4 minutes after the completion of SMB1. Even if a replay was shown in the encode only to fill the space, the game would still be playing even after the other 3 have gone into the credits, and that would just be awkward. Besides, one of the objectives is to complete all 4 games in the fastest time with one input, not how to figure out how to end all 4 at the same time. I think watsing time to make that happen wouldn't be as entertaining. I'm not so sure I even like the idea of taking a longer route in SMB1, because it would just be extending it for the sake of doing so. Not as long as fastest time remains an objective. Now, if the objective was instead to end all 4 games around the same time, then yeah, sure, that would be cool. But it isn't. Frankly, I think the 3 remaining final bosses defeated within 15 seconds of each other more than makes up for 4 minutes of a blank corner.

Thanks for the compliment, but this is not a new idea. The Mega Man quad run already did this, and I think Flygon's YouTube version did this as well.

I had thought about doing this run, actually. And although this isn't exactly the thread to discuss it, let's just say the different times it takes to finish the two games is a pretty big problem.

If not for the fact that SMB1 was already over, I would have loved for the screenshot of the run to be anywhere from about 10:19 to 10:23 when you were taking on two Bowsers and Wort at the same time! (Even if one of the Bowsers was fake.) I enjoyed this movie a lot more than I've ever enjoyed a multi-run of more than 2 games, which I usually find too difficult to watch because you don't just have a side-by-side comparison. I still lost track of one game or another throughout the run, but I enjoyed it anyway. I agree with the notion that it would have been cool if SMB1 had gone into hard mode after it finished. It's been pointed out that it would have made the TAS longer, presumably because there wouldn't have been time to complete it before the other three games finished and, of course, the need to play sub-optimally in the other three games. On the first point, I would point out that you don't have to start hard mode in World 1; you could choose to start in whatever world you have time to beat the game again before the other three games finish.
