Hello, This is my second multi-task: "multi-task 300%". And I tried making "INPUT-ANIMATION". By the way, this is SNES 1,43 movie.

HISTORY RELATED TO THIS TAS

2005-07-16 DeHackEd submitted FIRST MULTI-TASK: DUAL RUN with MMX and MMX2

2007-03-02 FractalFusion and Graveworm submitted currently published FASTEST MMX2 RUN.

2007-03-19 JXQ performed AWESOME INPUT ANIMATION in his Super Metroid 100% run.

2009-02-27 dezbeast submitted currently published MMX 100% run.

2011-05-08 Mothrayas submitted currently published MMX3 100% GOOD ENDING run.

Finally, 2011 May 8th, Mothrayas submitted his MMX3 100% run. This submission stimulated me to do this. And I watched JXQ's INPUT ANIMATION in his Super Metroid 100% run. This stimulated me to do INPUT ANIMATION.

WHOLE OBJECTIVE

  • aims for fastest time
  • 3 games in one movie
  • defeats sigmas's last form at the almost same time
  • 300% item completion
  • does NOT aim for best ending
  • does input animation
  • uses death as shortcut

DEFERENCE BETWEEN THIS AND EACH PUBLISHED RUN

MMX2

  • collects all Z-Parts

MMX3

  • does NOT kill bit and byte
  • does NOT aim for best ending
  • gets Z-Saber

improvement lists

I write improvement or loss in MMX3's 8 robot masters. For example, this my run is 35frames faster than currently published MMX3 100% run in intro stage although I did 3 games at the same time. + means save, - means loss. Loss is....this is just multiple playing.
save or losstotalcomment
Intro Stage+3535
Tunnel Rhino+5691
Blizzard Buffalo+112203
Neon Tiger-28175I saved 35 frames in Stage run, but I lost 63 frames in Boss fight. Also, Except Bit fight because of defference of the rule.
Gravity Beetle+6181
Toxic Seahorse+51232
Blast Hornet-2257This loss is multiple-thing. Also, Except Byte fight.
Volt Catfish+164171Except Byte fight.
Crush Crawfish+33204
Revisiting 1+52256
Revisiting 2+7263

Special Thanks To

  • Authors of each run, Especially JXQ for his INPUT ANIMATION , Mothrayas for his MMX3 100% good ending run.
ENJOY =)

Mukki: Judging...
Mukki: The response to this run was overwhelmingly positive. After watching it myself I cannot help but agree that this is an incredibly impressive piece of work.
One outstanding issue is whether this should obsolete the current dual run of MMX and MMX2. This is a difficult call as we have no precedent regarding the ways in which a multi-game run may be obsoleted. Common sense would dictate that a faster run of the same games would triumph, this goes without saying, but this is not the case here. The judge guidelines clearly state that the number of branches of a particular game should be kept to a minimum, consistency dictates that this should also apply to having multi-game runs of the same series For example, we could have the NES Mega Man quad-run, plus a run of MM4 + MM5, then perhaps a run of MM6 + MM3, then perhaps a run of MM3,4 and 6. This is, of course, an exaggeration, the point is that these runs are a demonstration of a concept, there is no point in publishing numerous multi-game runs within a series when they are merely variations of the same concept. Instead the multi-game run that best demonstrates this concept should be published.
The common concept between these runs is that they both demonstrate that multiple games from the Mega Man X series can be completed by a single sequence of input. I find that this run is superior in demonstrating this concept for a number of reasons. Firstly, a multi-game run must be impressive in the sense that it creates a clear divide between that which is possible for a human and that which requires tool-assistance. These runs mock the game by being able to play several games concurrently. As the difficulty increases with the more games one adds it can be said that the submission that beats three games is more impressive. Of course, this must be balanced with entertainment as the product becomes less impressive the more difficult it is to follow. Personally I find that quad-runs can get rather cluttered, three games seems to be just right. I found this run more entertaining and no more difficult to follow (probably because there was often some downtime in one of the games and so only two were being watched). Furthermore, the fact that this run also includes input animation adds to how impressive it is; the hypothetical player is not content with beating three games 100% at once, but also generates patterns with the controllers scattered around him/her.
Secondly, I find the goals in this submission to make for a more satisfying movie. Both runs collected all items in MMX2, but DeHackEd expressed regret that 100% could not also be achieved in MMX1 which this run now achieves in conjuction with 100% in MMX3. This persuades me that this run is a fitting continuation of what DeHackEd hoped to achieve with this concept.
I am therefore accepting this run as an obsoletion of the currently published Mega Man X series multi-game run.
Velitha: This'll be my next big project. The author has kindly sent me the stats screen video to add to the encode. I have a few nifty ideas on how to incorporate this into a nice encode, but this may take a while to produce. Processing...

I always get confused by these types of runs, but in a good way, sort of. :) Damn much action, and I always have a hard time to decide where to look, and I'm too lazy to watch them all three separately. This is of course a yes vote. I can't find time to even make a single run now days, or hardly at least. So I always think it's very inspiring to see these types of runs. Very cool. A slight encode request would be to have all the different games in different sound channels though, because the audio is badly messed up when playing all three games at once. Would be nice to switch it to the game one keeps the focus at. That was just a parenthesis though. Cheers for this awesomeness!

Yeah, I want to vote Yes two more times +DDD --- And for the layout, I wouldn't mind seeing it: X1 -data X2 - X3 Or letting in the japanese style, it's working already. xP

Personally, Im getting a little tired of these multiruns, but I find it so impressive that this run manages to 100% all three X games in the SNES at once, while still barely beating a single game run. While it was slighly a headache for me to sit through this chaos, its still is certaintly a technical feat. Voting Yes. Will this obsolete the other multirun of the X games?

While they aren't directly comparable, De's run is really outdated by this point, and this one accomplishes even more (including the mandatory simultaneous finisher) without being substantially longer. So either a new X+X2 movie should be made, or this one should obsolete it. It also appears that De doesn't mind either case, anyway.

Funny, I thought of you the moment I saw this submission.

I think this run should obsolete the X + X2 run, even though it's slightly longer. It demonstrates everything in that run + more.

I don't think it should obsolete it. A two-game run is easier to follow than a three-game run, no matter how much "impressive" of a feat the latter might be. IMO from an entertainment point of view the X+X2 run should stay. (AFAIK it's also quite popular, so dropping it would be quite a bummer.)

Isn't hitting the bosses with the saber's beam faster than hitting them with the saber itself. I liked how the final Sigma fights were delayed so the final blows could be landed in all three games at the same time.

agwawaf, what method did you use to control all three inputs at the same time? I'm interested in knowing.

Consider encoding with TASBlend enabled. :)

I have to say, knowing what I know about those three Rockman X games, watching this multi-run was all the more enjoyable for me. A friend of mine noticed some quirks with instant-death spikes and a place in the first game where X seemed to outright ignore damage, but in watching, I recognized what was going on. (30 FPS video + 60 FPS encoding = invisible non-blinking player.) That said, this gets a firm Yes vote from me. :D

The saber beam does more damage, yes, but it's damage over time, so it takes longer to do the damage, and then for the bosses' invincibility to wear off. Too, the beam is still not a one-hit kill, so it makes more sense to just do half their health twice with the sword itself.

Pretty awesome. In these runs, I watch them for the synchronization (I don't really care about "same input" so much as "same actions"), and there was lots of that towards the start (although it dropped off later). I think this should probably count as a separate category from the X/X2 run.

The submission comments for the single-game run explain that, actually. In that run, Mothrayas chose not to get Zero's saber, which costs some major time in the boss refights. In this multi-game run, agwawaf gets Zero's saber along with the Golden Armor, which gives him the bad ending. So if Mothrayas had chosen to get the saber, he would've beaten this run's time. Still, the speed of this movie is impressive. Also, Mukki, nice job with the description of your judgement. Using multiple paragraphs may help, but I appreciate the detail provided.
Used to be a frequent submissions commenter. My new computer has had some issues running emulators, so I've been here more sporadically. Still haven't gotten around to actually TASing yet... I was going to improve Kid Dracula for GB. It seems I was beaten to it, though, with a recent awesome run by Hetfield90 and StarvinStruthers. (http://tasvideos.org/2928M.html.) Thanks to goofydylan8 for running Gargoyle's Quest 2 because I mentioned the game! (http://tasvideos.org/2001M.html) Thanks to feos and MESHUGGAH for taking up runs of Duck Tales 2 because of my old signature! Thanks also to Samsara for finishing a Treasure Master run. Never enjoyed these so I won't vote. Although cool in concept, these type of runs never entertained me, but I appreciate the work that goes in them.

I have to disagree with the decision of obsoleting the two-game run with this. It's just a fact that a two-game run is easier to follow than a three-game run, no matter how much more technically impressive the latter might be. The obsoletion also means that the X1+X2 run will never be improved (because there's no way it will ever be published over the triple-run), which is a shame. Well, I'm still waiting for some other double-run (preferably one where the synchronization between the games is visibly clearer). For some reason this doesn't seem to be a very popular objective for tasers.
