you have to keep in mind that if you get the flower too early, yoshi will just swallow it without giving it to mario (video)
Yes but it can still be optimized though. http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/309623684/Fireflower.smv 30.5 frames faster.

A few questions: - If you use the goal sphere in Bowser's Castle or any other level without an exit (Yoshi's House, Top Secret Area), does the exit count increase? - If you use it in a Switch Palace, does the switch activate afterward? - How do you save fractions of a frame? ("30.5 frames faster") - Are there any other non-glitchy items that can be obtained in the reserve box? And just in case, if there was any debate on this earlier: Using the goal sphere in Bowser's Castle does not count as completing the game, as there is no detectable change to the save file and the credits do not roll.

I've used amaurea script to compare. If I had to guess I'd say it converts the distance you're ahead in term of frames, but it's obviously rounded at the end of the level. I haven't check for the rest of your questions so I'd leave that to better informed people :)

- No, because there's no event assigned to activate upon getting an exit. - No. - Subpixels ahead. - Only a naked koopa and a couple other useless things. You can get much better things with PI.

Does the exit count increase upon using a goal sphere in a Switch Palace? Specifically what can appear besides the naked koopa and goal sphere? What's PI?

I'm not sure, I'm away from my computer, so I can't check. I know when I used the goal exit in YSP, it cleared the level, triggered the save-continue screen, and flattened the switch (without the farting animation)... But it did not activate any of the blocks in other levels!

PI is more of a "thought experiment" bug but it _has_ been put into practice. Essentially, using brown platforms and Yoshi 'eat nothing' bug, we can increment Mario's Powerup status (hence PI = powerup incrementing). The other powerup statuses besides small-flower give weird results when collecting an additional powerup or taking an item through a goal. For example a value of 04 will give a star when taking an item through a goal. Values above this (particularly in the range of 80 and above) give very, very strange results. The reason I call this a thought experiment bug is because it takes way to long to set up for anything useful (i.e. goal sphere, or key). zraffleticket has claimed to trigger the game's credits using this bug, but we're all not so sure. :p

Before anyone comments on this, you should know that this glitch is incredibly time consuming. It takes approximately 20 minutes to increment your powerup status high enough to be able to produce a goal sphere.

Not as bad as entering a pipe 255 times to warp to FOI3.

Downloadables are meant to be MP4 because not everybody has an MKV player.

Oh? Never had a problem making mkvs for Donkey Kong 2 or N64 games in the past, but I haven't really been around for a while. I'd put it on youtube, but it doesn't do 60fps in any satisfactory way, and nicovideo lowers the quality for many people during mayny hours and needs an account. Also the mkv has 2 audio tracks, which mp4 doesn't support either. Can't make everyone happy :)

You can achieve pseudo-60 fps with TASBlend.

if you got the sphere via clappin chuck, could you PI from there? or is that already too far?

Pardon? Powerup incrementing isn't something that you can shortcut. You have to do it about 103 times to actually get something worthwhile.

Finally managed to save 137 frames over Masterjun's test: http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1534754982/smw-yi1test.smv It seems like 6/5 is better in order to die sooner.
Retired because of that deletion event. Projects (WIP RIP): VIP3 all-exits "almost capeless yoshiless", VIP2 all-exits, TSRP2 "normal run"

What is this, china? Just get VLC or MPC. Anybody who uses windows media player doesn't deserve to watch encodes.

So, from the information I gathered, you are about half a second short of making this run go below the 10 minute mark. Nice!

If my calculations are right, you guys are now 1183 frames ahead from the run that just got accepted. Is 1183 frames = 19 seconds and 43 frames? If so, as MUGG said, you guys can beat the 10 minutes mark.

Here we go that's what everyboy was waiting for :D Very nice. Also, no it's nice half a second from the 10 minutes mark, it's way closer if not already beaten. On the test I did, it was a quick hex-edit done in less than an hour so there's many frames that can be shaved (fadeout lag, by getting the right score, lag with the red shell in YI4, and so on).

Could one see that hexedit test?

I'll redo one with Mister improvement in a few. EDIT : Nope I can't make it synchs. For some reason the coin from the plant jumps higher so Yoshi's tongue doesn't catch it : / You can see the old one here : http://dehacked.2y.net/microstorage.php/info/1269022565/test.smv but Mister's level is already more than 3 seconds faster.

This is patently false. MKVs are just as acceptable for primary encodes as MP4s; any decent media player these days is going to support both.

Yep, plus the fact that BKDJ has been making very high quality encodes for many N64 (among other systems) games for this site for about 5 years now. I don't know how many times he's saved me from having to download a Majora's Mask wip, and cursing because of desyncing. *snickers*
