If you have 118 stars and find an improvement on star number 2...let's just say you no longer have 118 stars.
SM64 is still very hex friendly. It fits a lot of the criteria. Encountering the RNG is a problem for any game with an RNG, and most games have an RNG. However, most games have additional complications as well. I have only encountered one game that is more hex friendly than SM64.
Overall, yes. But the amount of time required for the optimization of 100 coin stars is absolutely insane. And no one likes TASing them. It would take a very long time to redo everything that got ruined from hexing something early in the run. Like I said, 120 Star is the only thing that makes SM64 seem "not friendly."

I tested playing back the 0 star TAS on the hack Super Mario 64: Kirby Edition and it synced perfectly! So I encoded it and uploaded it here to YouTube. I find it entertaining to watch Kirby run through the game like Mario, BLJ, and beat Bowser in a little over 5 minutes. Maybe you will too.

Is the SM64 team going to use that route for the full 120-star run? Or do they have to collect 100 coins with that star?

They actually collect the 100 Coins with the Red Coins. I only know that because they have a bunch of WIP's Comparison Videos on their Nico Page that are incredible to watch. I recommend everyone to watch them!!!! http://com.nicovideo.jp/video/co198070

Yeah, but there hasn't been another new WIP yet. So we wait, and sate our appetite for ridiculous physics abuse with what's already been shown.
First a movie gets submitted, and ends up accepted despite breaking rules other runs have been rejected for. And when I vote less than spectacularly on this movie, I become the victim of harassment and threats. Yay, favoritism.

Rematch with KTQ is very improvable, though. I now have 42"67 and still improving!

Great! Looking forward to the improved Koopa manipulation. EDIT: New (faster) Koopa the Quick run (42"37) by Nahoc.

Alright, if you remember a few weeks ago, I saved 2 frames at the end of BitS. Mickey and I talked some and we decided that we wouldn't submit yet in hopes that we could find some more frames to optimize. Recently, Mickey contacted me and he told me that ToT found a little trick in BitDW that managed to save another frame. We've been trying to squeeze out a second one for awhile by getting more BLJ speed while still being able to tie the C-Up, but it's rather difficult. Even more recently, I talked to Mickey again and he said that he and snark played with the beginning of BitFS and saved another frame before the pole trick. He asked me to do the wall kicks because I had more knowledge about them than he did. So I did the wall kicks today, and in the process saved another frame by gaining ~0.2 speed. One more frame may be possible but I'm not quite sure at the moment. It was extremely difficult to pass up the speed of the wall kicks in the current published run. I was ~0.1 - ~0.2 speed behind for hours before I finally managed to get ahead. Anyway, there's your update on a probable new 0 star run being submitted sometime "soon."
