Bay Route is an arcade run and gun released by Sega and Sunsoft in 1989. Two players can control a boy and a girl to kill terrorists and help the boy find his girlfriend (I wonder who the girl is supposed to be)
  • Emulator used: FBA-RR v0.0.7
  • 2 Players
  • Avoids time saving damage
  • Plays on hard by using dipswitch
  • Manipulates bosses.

Stuff To Know

  • When both of the players shoot boss/enemy that takes over 2 hits to kill, it takes double damage if both of the shots collide at the same time. This is used to kill off bossess very fast!
  • The flamethrower does the most damage if you can get it to hit for over 26 frames.
  • I didn't take any damage because it doesn't save very much time (probably 2 seconds) and looks ugly, plus it's more fun to shoot stuff. Also, anyone who has played this game probably knows it's a very hard one.
  • There are a few theoretical untested possible improvements with better boss luck.

1. I tried very hard to manipulate the cube boss to not move around for that much, but it seems that no matter what you do he will do that.
2. There are some parts where the girl had to dodge bullets, and so not both of the shots could connect at once, but again, I decided not to take the damage to get this.
3. Since you have 4 choices of weapons, maybe a few boss battles could have better weapon choices, but I doubt it.
Thanks for reading, and enjoy the movie.

Since you decided to read this, I'll give you a table. (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

FractalFusion: Replaced submission file with FBM file linked from this post (with proper extension).

turska: Judging.

turska: The run is quite repetitive. The two players spend a lot of time doing the same things, standing still and overlapping each other - this is particularly noticeable during boss fights and the autoscroller. It looks like much more could be done with two players.
Additionally, many viewers found the run quite boring.
As such, I'm rejecting this movie for major possible improvements with how the two player characters are used, and audience response.

turska: Unrejecting under the neo-TASVideos publication system.

turska: Accepting for publication in the Vault.

I was impressed that you could have saved two seconds with damage on a .15 second movie.

Thanks, nitrogenesis. Replaced the file. Just to let you know, changing the extension of your FBM file to .zip doesn't magically make it a ZIP file. Also, I'll give you back your table. ┳━┳ ︵╰(°□°╰)

I made an encode. It is embedded in the submission text. Unfortunately, FBA's avi dumper is a pain and there is some A/V desync, sorry >_> (Yay, Post 1337)

Thanks for the run and the encode, NitroGenesis! The run looked pretty solid. I wish there could be a little more weapon variety during the regular stages, if you can show off other weapons without losing time. Boss fights were pretty good. I'd never heard of this game before, but it's a little disappointing graphics-wise, as far as arcade games go. The stages got fairly repetitive. I may rewatch this, though, to see if it's more interesting when I've had more sleep. If you have any more info about the game, it might help make the run more interesting.

You should be ashamed of yourself for letting yourself do the voice cover. I'll give this run a meh, for what Nitrogenesis did to tasvideos.

I tried watching it all the way through, but just got too bored. Voting Meh, 'cause I'm guessing it's more entertaining if you've actually played the game.

To explain what AngerFist is saying, the quality of the voices in the youtube video is weird, as if nitrogenesis voiced it over himself. The voices should sound like the following: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZRVsrlxHcc It doesn't help that the audio and video are desynced right at the beginning as well. I don't know yet if this is a property of FBA-RR v0.0.7, or if this is only how the encode came out.

Here is some more info about the game. 1. You can take 2 hits, the 3rd hit kills you. When you die and respawn, your health does not refill so you can only take 1 hit before dying. This makes the game hard in real time. 2. Most other weapons are sadly useless in a TAS. The bomb can only be used while ducking and that wastes 2 frames each time. And the flamethrower obviously can't hit enemies far away, so it will only cause lag while the enemies come to us. 3. Each weapon can be upgraded by picking up green boxes. These come randomly from enemies after they die. Obviously, we need to manipulate luck to get these to drop. The best upgrade is the spread gun, an upgrade from the regular pea shooter. So we need that one asap. The other one nessescary is an upgrade to the four-way bullet which makes them all swirl in a circle instead. The other upgrades allow the flamethrower to get a longer range and the bomb to have a bigger explosion.

This is an FBA fault. I have only briefly played this game at a real arcade which lead me to TAS it, so I had no idea how the voices are supposed to sound like. (I also didn't TAS this game with sound)

Alright, thanks, NitroGenesis! I watched this again, and it was better than I first thought. If nothing else, the music is fairly good, especially the drum hits in the boss battle music. I'd say this moves along well enough to merit a (somewhat weak) Yes vote.

The sound errors weren't particularly distracting. You constantly switched weapons much earlier than necessary, which looks rather un-TASy. Were downtime antics not possible? In many boss fights, you were standing still for extended periods of time while pointing your weapon at the boss. The autoscroller section also looks like it could be much less dull.

A little boring since you couldn't switch weapons or move around much during downtime without the game lagging, but still a good run. I'm glad you decided not to take damage too; it looks more impressive in this game. Yes vote.

I agree.

I didn't know that it seemed sloppy, but it doesn't waste time and doesn't stop the gameplay, so I guess it isn't that bad.

I guess they could be a bit better, but the only section I could see that would really benefit is while waiting for the cube boss and the autoscroller stage, but there isn't particularly much I could do in that one without it getting repetetive after a while. Maybe the 2 player could be used better, but I was going for reducing lag, which is hard because of FBA's lack of a lag counter, so I was just trying to shoot everything.

Personally, I found this quite boring. The two players are doing the exact same things or even overlapping each other way too much. Lag or not, it looks like there's much more that can be done with the two player characters, but wasn't - instead, they were just generally walking in sync, posing in sync or standing into each other, so you could barely even notice it was 2-player at all. The end result was very boring as a result. No vote.
http://www.youtube.com/Noxxa <dwangoAC> This is a TAS (...). Not suitable for all audiences. May cause undesirable side-effects. May contain emulator abuse. Emulator may be abusive. This product contains glitches known to the state of California to cause egg defects. <Masterjun> I'm just a guy arranging bits in a sequence which could potentially amuse other people looking at these bits <adelikat> In Oregon Trail, I sacrificed my own family to save time. Warning: When making decisions, I try to collect as much data as possible before actually deciding. I try to abstract away and see the principles behind real world events and people's opinions. I try to generalize them and turn into something clear and reusable. I hate depending on unpredictable and having to make lottery guesses. Any problem can be solved by systems thinking and acting.

I already voted Yes on this the first time it was in the Workbench. I don't care where it goes, as long as it's published.
